  1. Thanks Corgi - I actually had the caseback open last night to adjust the movement as it was running about 1 minute 20 sec slow per day - sure enough - plastic retainer, very generic asian 21J - not even any markings to indicate "+" or "-" on the adjuster... Still, the movment hacks and auto-winds very well...
  2. I have dogs, cats and love them like members of our family. I could never condone killing them for food as they are intelligent, beautiful creatures. With that said; I understand that pigs are even more intelligent... Yet I have no problem eating bacon, pork roasts, ribs, etc. It is a cultural thing - one might argue against animal testing of drugs and medical procedures - yet if this testing could help save a loved one; I'm sure most of us would put our families first...
  3. VERY obvious in the closeup pics but on the wrist it seems to work... The "hole" from the missing marker seemd to be way worse...
  4. Nice looking movement but kinda hard to see anything wrong here...
  5. Well, had my Arktos for less than one day and lost the rectangular marker between the "W" and "S" points on the bezel! Knew this was an issue, just didn't expect it to happen so fast! Anyway, that empty, hollow space was killing me and I decided to take action! I took a paper clip and proceeded to cut two tiny pieces with a cutting pliers. I then used "crazy glue" to affix them to the bezel. I took the wife's nail dremel and grinded the two pieces until they nearly merged with each other into one. Might have grazed the "W" and bezel, not too sure or if the markings are what caused the piece to come loose in the first place - a little big, and much more obvious in this 6.8MP photo, but not tto noticeable on the wrist - what do you Pam folks think?
  6. "white gold plate" how is that different from stainless in a rep? Even a gen in white gold is Rhodium, no?
  7. Been playing with the Asian 21J movement in my Cartier Santos 100 Rep tonight. After two days wear was running about 1 minute 20 sec slow per day - opened the case (8 TINY screws DAMN) and proceeded to play with the adjuster - SOB, no "plus" or "minus" markings on this one and a "mirror" copy of the visable movement in my Baume & Mercier (ie adjuster on the other side) Well, tried it a small nudge down - hacked the movement, checked it 30 minutes later and even SLOWER - a nudge up and too fast - down again, too slow - thought I had it right replaced the 8 screws and too slow - opened again and too fast - ARRGGGHH - think I may have it right now and won't replace the caseback until correct - maybe the bottle and 1/2 of Shiraz isn't helping, lol...
  8. If you upload to photobucket and then copy and paste the last (img) link for any pic you should have no problem...
  9. Does the watch run after winding? If it is just a screw holding the movement to the case then you probably can replace yourself with a jewelers screwdriver and a steady hand... post pics!
  10. Nice Arktos, but should have black hands, no? Here's mine: Sorry - just noticed it's the GMT and may be different...
  11. Just was wondering if any of you have a "local" source to purchase rep watches. I'm talking about instant gratification here - pay cash and bring your new baby home... I have purchased all of my reps from Canal street in NYC - pretty easy for me to sneak there on any given week, during the work day - so many vendors and so many choices - sure there is ALOT of garbage out there - fantasy reps and the like. Most all have asian 21 jewel - have yet to find a 7750 or swiss movement watch - but if you know what you are looking for and are familiar with the specifics of a given model you can find some nice quality examples... I usually pay between $40 - $80 for watches that would command $100 -$200 online. I am not obsessed with the "perfect" rep (we know that animal does not exist!) but I have purchased watches that would fool anyone but an AD or a watch forum afficienado and that certainly please me as functional, beautiful timepieces. I can also pick up some pretty nice Mont Blanc pens, hand bags for my wife and even an "Armani Exchange" belt for my son - all on the same block! Just wondering if any of you in other localities have a similar place to get your reps?
  12. Skeleton Pam is very cool - nice decorations. Need a skeleton for my collection - saw a pretty cool Patek skeleton the other day on Canal Street, mmm...
  13. Here in New Jersey USA - $2.89/gallon for regular - I drive approximately 144 miles per day and average $20 per day in fuel. I have a 2005 Ford 500 (now the Taurus) that fortunately gets up to 32 mpg highway and averages over 25 mpg with mixed city/highway driving - not bad for a BIG car
  14. Very nice! No super lume but here's mine - on genuine ostrich:
  15. Guess it depends upon the watch - I have some that wind well on the winder others that will not at all...
  16. Sporting my new Cartier Santos 100 on SS Bracelet...
  17. Well, picked up the Santos 100 for my son last week. Decided to visit Chinatown again and perhaps get a Pam on a SS bracelet. Saw a few but was not really familiar with the models offered and did not want to get an inaccurate Pam. I scouted around and found this Santos 100 on a ss bracelet - sure, typical inaccurate dial - but love the lighter blue jewel on the crown - nice heavy rep @ 190 Grams - big yet dressy - I like it! Best part - only paid $55 for this beauty...
  18. Just picked up what looks like the same Santos on a ss bracelet for $55 in Chinatown - love this watch - heavy @ 190 grams - sure there are dial inaccuracies but face it, unless comparing side by side to a gen, visiting an AD or getting scrutinized by a watch forum member, who would know the difference???
  19. I have the swan neck on my 111H but not on my Fiddy - more concerned about the shape and decoration of the bridges being true - the presence or lack thereof of the swan neck is not a deal breaker for me - both movements appear impressive to anyone but an AD or a watch forum afficienado. Couple this with the fact that I only paid $60 for my 111 & $80 for my Fiddy and I am more than happy with the accuracy and quality of both watches...
  20. Gold Pam Radiomir or perhaps a Cartier Santos 100?
  21. Old Skool - great watches and even more amazing straps! Did you make these?
  22. Add another Leo to the list!
  23. Picked up this Santos yesterday for my son (he's 12!) in Chinatown. He likes a tank style with a white face and thought I would surprise him. I tried on the watch and really like the look - now I want one. Most of the watches I have are more casual or sporty - The Santos is a great looking dressy number... Nice rep with automatic movement, fairly heavy piece. Few dial faults and not the best strap, but like the deployment buckle - overall not bad for $45...
