vlydog Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 I plan on swapping out the MBW movement in my 1665 for a slow beat movement. I purchased a new ETA 2846 but it has a noisy rotor. Are there any other movements that would be at home in this vintage sub? Thanks.
tmg Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 Maybe 27xx series ETA's but those are harder to source.
vlydog Posted March 6, 2008 Author Report Posted March 6, 2008 Maybe 27xx series ETA's but those are harder to source. Thanks tmg. The reason I ask is that the 2846 I bought has much rotor noise. I not sure a little grease will be the solution.
Stephane Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 Hi All, I was lucky enough to get JustAsGood's 5513 that feature a slow beat eta (not sure I remember which one though). It is indeed a nice difference for a vintage Rolie to see it beat slowly. I still have 3 vintage SDs hosting 2836 @ 28800... I would love to see some of our usual specialists chime in and teach us which one should be sourced. Cheers Stephane
Guest avitt Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 Is your 2846 new or used? Has it been serviced recently? I don't think that rotor noise is inherent in the design of that movement...Mine's pretty quiet.
RWG Technical Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 Maybe 27xx series ETA's but those are harder to source. I have at least 2 ETA 2789's (not certain on the exact caliber) in my spares bins...gathering dust...didn't know they were hard to find... 2846's are easy to find, but due to the vintage, probably need to be serviced. As avitt pointed out, the 2846 is normally virtually silent when the rotor turns... RG
vlydog Posted March 6, 2008 Author Report Posted March 6, 2008 @ ziggy Are the ETA 2789's a suitable alternative to the 2846? If so, I would be interested.

You I'm sure know better than me Vyldog, my 2846 is also very quiet in my 1665.

I am certain that it is not serviced.

RG @ziggy It this compatibility issue works out, I would be interested in one of your dust collectors; if they are for sale. Thanks
RWG Technical Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 I checked my spares, I have 2 ETA 2781's in stock, working but in need of servicing due to not knowing when they were last serviced. The hands are the same size as the 2836, and it appears to be dimensionally the same size as well, so I would guess that these can also be used instead of a 2846... RG
Stephane Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 Interresting inputs guys. Vlydog, yours must have a rotor issue So whatever ETA ref, it is fine as long as the hands fit the mvt and the size of the mvt fits the case. Another question about 2846s: what are their true value in terms of money? Could anybody tell us this? Thanks & Cheers Stephane
Stephane Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 Hi Robi, Thank you so much for your help. 80$ shiped seems a good price indeed Cheers Stephane
