I've always assumed that they must be absolutely perfect otherwise the company/manufacturer would lose its reputation and of course people having paid that kind of money wouldn't accept anything less than 100% !! Unfortunately the things are not this way. The true manufactures as the Zenith start to become more and more rare and the watches served more always as the machine with few controls of the men. The technology if facility the passage from the project to the product from the other doesn't always allow on volumes of greater pieces a serious quality control. This way the brands are submitted post-sale to the service to resolve all these problems. They don't worry him of the image and of the reputation for always buying greater publicity spaces and they have from theirs the specialized magazines. In Italy however the things have not been all right for the Hublot. Openly criticized for the scarce quality of some products on a important newspaper. Pugwash Posted August 4, 2006 Report Share Posted August 4, 2006 Seeing as this article was recently linked to, I will bump it with my impression that half of the misaligned dates pictured are not misaligned. This is most visible with the LV photo where yuo can clearly see the camera angle by seeing the top half of the rehaut but not the bottom half. If the camera isn't dead on over the date, you'll get barelling as well. Yes, there are some clunkers, but a few of them can be explained away by mentioning that after 10pm, the date wheel is starting to get pressure from the date-change mechanism. If you insist on taking watch pics with the hands at 10:10, do it at 10:10 AM. All in all, I'd say misaligned date wheels are possible, but that's not what we're seeing in all these pics. MAHLER Posted August 5, 2006 Author Report Share Posted August 5, 2006 (edited) the camera angle.... yes it's correct but the space over the date is much big of normal necessary space.... the rolex is famous for the little errors of construction, one of the most common errors never correct it's the progressive irreversible deterioration of the quadrant... another example of problem with number 28 on www.rolex.com taking watch pics with the hands at 10:10, do it at 10:10 AM.... .... the window datestamp is considered one of the complications in clockmaking. Despite reenter among the complications (or rather the watch properly has to visualize only times and minutes) for utility is a very diffused complication. Because of employment during the years the mechanism has known numerous variations. The complication used by more the brands (some of these photos) are the "Mechanisms of instant advancement"... foresees that the date instantly goes off to midnight. This is the scheme of instant datestamp : The wheel conductor of the datestamp (red) receives the motion from the wheel of the hours of the watch (to the center of the movement). On the wheel conductor is climbed on a fixed finger (1), that every day, toward midnight, moves the bascula conductor of the datestamp (2), constantly in contact with the finger (1) from a rubber band of bending (3). The bascula is endowed with a tooth that is inserted among the teeth of the disk of the datestamp (6), under the action of a second rubber band of bending (4). The figure reproduces the operation of the system beginning from the hours 20:00, when the finger (1) begins to lift the bascula conductor of the datestamp (2). At the 23:55 (figure C) the bascula (2) has reached the maximum elevation in comparison to the finger (1) and the vertical tooth of the bascula (5) has escaped from the space among two teeth of the disk of the datestamp (6). To expire some midnight, the finger of the wheel conductor (1) abandons the extremity of the bascula (2), which quickly returns toward the initial position, for action of the rubber band back (4), moving, through the vertical tooth (5), the disk of the datestamp (6), that instantly advances of one day. The disk is maintained firm for every 24 hour from a lock (7), pressed against it by a rubber band of bending (.
