freddy333
Is the chrono running or in the ON position? If so, switch it off & reset the hands? Have you checked the stem release or tried engaging it while inserting the stem?
RWG Technical
The stem is held in place with the set lever, not sure if this is a snap or screw down model... If you removed the stem in the time setting position (which I don't recommend) the crown gear can and may have slipped out of place. All you can do is to make sure that the stem is actually being inserted fully, it's going to take some testing and figuring exactly what went wrong. Is this a El Primero movement? marsupilami
31 jewel el primero movado movement. I had it tested before I corrected the centersecond and it worked fine. now the stem stops right after inserting it. freddy333
Twist the stem back & forth as you insert it. Sometimes, that will help to align everything. Also, try turning the case upside down (dial on top). Ziggy may have more to add, but that is all I can think of. I am pretty sure that something just moved out of alignment. ubiquitous
If you insert the stem and turn one direction or the other, can you feel it engaging any of the gears? i.e. can you see the hands move?

RWG Technical
If you removed the stem in the time setting position, the clutch or crown gear could have slipped out of place. The next step would be to remove the movement from the case, and try inserting the stem with the movement in a holder. This will eliminate the case and crown tube as possible problems. If it doesn't work, then you have to remove the hands and dial and look at the keyless works, don't risk breaking something, it's not easy finding El Primero parts... marsupilami
this seems to be the problem:
freddy333
Unfortunately, I cannot access my image editing program now, otherwise, I would circle the part that I think is causing the problem. But it looks like the flat lever part that is sitting at a 45 degree angle in the center of the picture has popped out of place & is now sitting on top of & blocking the winding pinion (the 1st gear the stem slides into/through when you insert it into the case) from sliding in & meshing with the teeth on the clutch wheel. I cannot tell from your picture & I am not familiar enough with the El Primero to tell you where that errant lever part normally belongs, but it looks like it may pivot around the screw in the lower left corner. You may have to try rotating the lever part in a 360 degree circle to see where it came from.
RWG Technical
The only problem is that the crown gear (the first gear next to the set lever) is turned sideways. Everything else is ok. The only safe way to fix this is to take the keyless works apart and re-seat the gear where it should be placed. Trying anything else and you risk breaking something.
