Some finished V CGs

Jaykeem asked me to do the finishing work on some of his V CGs. When I got them they looked like they had come straight off the CNC machine with no finishing work at all! Deep grooves everywhere, super sharp edges, dings, contour irregularities, etc. Plus, Jaykeem had tried to fit one of them to a case with not so good results. Because these things were originally $200/each and probably can't be replaced at any cost I wanted to make sure I didn't screw them up. I am a bit of a perfectionist as well so I took my time and all told, I probably spent 5+ hours on these. Yes, I'm nuts but I had a great time! Anyways... on to the pics. The watch on the left is Jaykeem's beautifully modded 201a on Ted Su strap which I also refinished. I polished the CG pin per Jaykeem's request on the CG that is mounted on the empty case.

Great job Robert.. they look really nice indeed but aren't you a bit harsh on the original finish? Dings, grooves etc..?

Yes they were not finished properly (as it has been discussed from the start ) and they needed some polishing a brushing as rolli stated in one of his thread but they are not that bad as you make them look ;)

V in all fairness, I don't know how they looked out of the wrapper. When I got them, they were basically raw pieces completely unfinished and they did have nicks, deep grooves, sharp edges. Nothing negative, they were just unfinished as you stated. To be perfectly honest, these are absolutely amazing CGs, the quality of the steel used is impressive to say the least. I think it's harder than 316L stainless. :D

So to respond to your post V, yes... they did not look like they had been tumbed through a dryer full of screws and bolts. :) BTW, V you deserve a lot of credit for making these. I'm sure they were a lot of work so don't take my pre-condition comments to be a dig on you. They are what they are and anybody with some time on their hands can end up with beautiful CGs.

I agree with what you said.. they were indeed chunks of metal just brushed 2-3 times on top of it. As we discussed in the thread they were aware of the problem and they suggested that they should get polished and then brushed on top like the gen.

But with this procedure the cost would have been significantly higher from the already high so i thought some time, a scotch-brite and a cape-cod would do the job perfectly for those who were really into a perfect finish ^_^

Robert can I ask how you polish the end of the pin like that.

I have a polished CG that needs to be refinished and have the pin polished so would love to know your technique for this.

Don't know how Robert did it, but I wetsanded with 1500 grit, then cape coded for a mirror finish. That's what I've been doing with all my CG pins. :)
