Flashman Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 I am seeing some dealers advertise asian ETA 2836 movements, and was wandering if this is the new asian clone movement with ETA stamps and smooth sweep, or just a fancy name for the 21j movement in all cheap reps?
rangers158 Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 Depending on how honest the dealer is describing the watch, most of the watches listed with asiab 2836 now are in fact the asian copy of eta. It looks exactly the same as eta with the markings in most cases. From what I see, all are gold coloured movement for asian. So having a look at the movement pic will the best to determine if it is asian copy or A21J.
FxrAndy Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 Tommy you asked this same question 6 days ago and i answered it then, it is bad enough that people dont use the search function but when you dont look for reply s to your own posts!
Flashman Posted September 10, 2008 Author Report Posted September 10, 2008 Whoops, I have been so busy I totally forgot what I had posted before, complete chaos at home. Sorry for the duplicate FxrAndy! Thanks for your link to the previous posting, I am glad that it looks like it is the new ETA clone, so might have a smoother hand sweep similar to the gen ETA.
JohnG Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 In my experience and for MOST dealers: "Asia Eta 2813" or "Asia ETA" refers to the 21J. It is NOT a clone or copy but just a regular cheap 21J movement. "ETA 2836" is EITHER a gen ETA or might be the clone. So far I have only seen PureTime advertise the actual ETA clone as what it is. Josh and Andrew, for example, advertise a "Asian ETA" that is in fact a 21J. And I know both of them (and many others) are selling watches advertised as "ETA" that are in fact clones. But I have seen neither sell actual ETA clones - that is, counterfeit ETAs with ETA markings - as what they actually are. I have an SSD that came from Ruby that in all likelihood has a fake ETA in it (I paid for a gen ETA). But I have to have the movement partially disassembled before I will know for sure. According to a couple of the accepted tells, it does appear to be a fake though.
