Much less noticable to keep the bracelet on. You're right on the strap. However, if we grind down 1mm on each side of the lugs, a 22mm band will fit, theoretically anyway. No? Unless you're planning on drilling those out from the inside of the lug (read: hard to do), you will probably compromise how securely the springbar holds the strap to the watch. Also agree the lug holes could prove to be problem. Also consider that the case slopes downward at the bracelet, so removing and widening this area will make the case height higher at the bracelet.
