I've been following reps for a few years and, as you can tell by my post count, have lost interest lately. They're too expensive, unreliable and misrepresented. Why spend the money? To top it off, sending it back to China for "warranty" service is not my idea of a smart move. Think about the less expensive brands out there that are gens. I just bought a Hamilton, with superlume, a movement that I know is swiss and is serviced, warranty, box, very nice strap for...that's right...$250!! The quality is great and I don't have to sneak into a watchsmith and ask if he services reps. I can drop the thing off. And the quality I mentioned...better than some of these so called "super" reps that cost double.

Don't take it as you're the bad guy. I'm not saying that at all. What I wanted to say is, and I may get this wrong again, that saying "Dealer X really sucks" then saying "Sorry, don't want to talk about it" isn't fair. I'll check out the IWC thread. Keep your chin up.

No offense, but it's a bit unfair to call a dealer out without offering details. Other than that, sounds like a tough run.

To top it off, it's asian. Look at the balance wheel. The asian copies have the flare on each spoke where it meets the outside of the wheel. Genuine ETA/Unitas 6497 don't have that.

I have had three standard (6-9-12) asian-7750s: Breitling Navitimer Fighters Special Edition 2x IWC GST All three stopped working within weeks of arriving. None of them were service, but paying $300 for a watch then sending it for $175 in service was out of my price range at the time. If you buy one, send it to The Zigmeister and have it serviced if you want it to last. Otherwise, it is a crapshoot.

I'm with TVT here. I've had 3 Asian 7750 die within months. Sure, the can be serviced, but then I'm spending $600 for service on top of $600 for the watches. That $1200 buys me a very nice, albeit used, Omega Speedy, a SMP, a nice new Tag, an inexpensive Breitling. All of them work out of the box. And if they don't, someone backs them up, no questions asked for a couple of years. Think of it this way... You buy something that is brand new(car, guitar, bike are the three I'm familiar with. Pick something). In order to use said "new" thing reliably, you have to spend up to 2/3 of the original price of the thing on service. Think about it, a rep with an Asian 7750 costs about 300, to get it serviced another 150 to 200. You wouldn't spend that on your new car, new bike, new guitar...you name it. It seems foolish.

Slim pickings on there. For Omegas I see a quartz SMP and a 45mm PO. No more Tags...they must be going out of business.

My Gen PO is pretty thick, but it's been so long since I've had a rep PO in my hand that I could be of much more help.

@sdpartier Dude, you need to relax. The language doesn't help the situation. In times likes these, cooler heads prevail. Just relax and have a beer.

I have two dead IWCs with the new movement. They worked fine for awhile, then died on me. Neither will wind with the crown nor automatically.

1 mm is a lot when you're talking about the depth of those lugholes. Unless you're planning on drilling those out from the inside of the lug (read: hard to do), you will probably compromise how securely the springbar holds the strap to the watch.

@Richard I am not on Joe's side here, but I think a fund for stuff like this is silly. We are a community, yes, but throwing money into a fund is not a solution. If anything, it invites more of these scammers. WIth a fun, they can get away with it knowing people will be taken care of. It simply opens up a box that we shouldn't be looking into. Remember the RWG watch? Who's going to run this thing? How can we be sure this fund is safe? How do you prevent people from taking advantage of it? Do you only let veterans to dip in? What makes them better than a newbie that's been screwed? The fact of the matter is we need to expose those who create problems within. Funds are not the solution. Namor did the right thing, and those who outed base on old RWG did the right thing.

@veni With all due respect to a senior member, but when is a good time to bring this up? RBJ has been absent for some time and when I went to e-mail him about a watch of mine he has had for awhile (along with the money to mod it) and got my e-mail bounced back. Curious? Maybe. Truth is, there is never a "good time" to do this. Better later than never is the only key to it. My .02
