Antonio Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 I have had great luck winding all my watches clockwise. Until now. Just found out the IWC Big Pilot, with it's Asian 21j movement prefers to be wound COUNTER-clockwise. It's the odd man out in my collection. Found out by accident, it wasn't winding on the winder, so I tried it the other way, and voil
freddy333 Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Also, if you have one of the winders that rotates on a 45 degree axis instead of steeper and you have a watch that won't wind on it (e.g. I have a Bentley GT with an A7750 movement that does this), try propping up the back to give it a steeper axis angle. Has made a difference in winding, it's been a learning experience. I'm incorporating these in the design of my own custom winder. Sounds interesting. Be sure to post some pics of the winder once you get it done. While on the subject, I should mention that my $90 wonder is still going strong (& totally silent) after about 4 months. I fully expected the motor to break down or start screeching by now
chiefwiggum Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 had mine 5 days no problems yet Nice bit of kit - where did you get it from?
oscarmadfish Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 http://acetimer.com/ i had to pay an extra $70 to get it posted to the uk
ubiquitous Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Heh... My winder is starting to die. I've run it pretty consistently for the past year or so; the motor is starting to lag and it's slowed down by a considerable amount.
freddy333 Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Ubi - that is 1 of the most beautiful winders I have ever seen. Can you get a replacement motor for it?
ubiquitous Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 I'm not sure, actually. I'm sure something can be done... I just lack the technical know-how to do it

I just lack the technical know-how to do it Have you checked with the company that made it to see if they will replace the motor? I am assuming it is no longer covered under warranty?
ubiquitous Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Yeah.... Long out of warranty, I'm sure. For now, it sits... Until I can find a fix or replacement
