Accuracy of Carrera automatic movement?

AlanH

Recommended Posts

I received my Carrera last week and it looks great, especially now that I've finally had the strap made smaller. The only thing is, I've noticed that it can be a little temperamental at keeping the time. For example, during the first few days it kept the time really well but completely stopped at night time. Now it seems to only keep the time for about an hour - even with lots of arm movement. Is there something I am doing wrong?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Alan

Not sure what it needs but that doesn't sound right...have you tried fully winding it (40 turns gently) and setting it down face up to see how long it runs?

If it's from a dealer...I say email him/her and see about getting a replacement...

Depends... I rotate watches but if I was to wear a watch for an entire week... I'd wind it about 10 turns from a dead stop, put it on my wrist and wear it the entire week... the motion of my wrist is generally enough to keep a watch fully wound...it's always better (in an automatic) to allow the rotor/automatic winding system to do the work rather than cranking the crown 40+ turns a day.....

No doubt that your movement needs fixing. If you can't find a local watchsmith to do it (better option, IMO), ask your dealer for a replacement. This is not the a way a new watch should work. You don't need to handwind a watch 40 rounds to keep power.

It could possibly be a mainspring fault, as its not holding tension neither via stem nor rotor and therefore only giving you a few seconds of power.

Three quarters of movement would need to come apart to get to the mainspring barrel where the

problem maybe with click wheel, barrel arbor or mainspring itself. I may be wrong but thats where i would point my finger.

Certainly not a job that you should have to deal with on a brand new watch. Sending it back is your only realistic option and dont take no for an answer.
