LegendofSpeed Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 I need some help guys... I was just about to send a watch to The Zigmeister for lume and such... and I realized that my base PAM dial has a texture to it... is there anything that can be done to either remove or alleviate the texture? If there's nothing, then I am going to send another dial, but I don't want to as I want to build a 002D Thanks for your help in advance!
dluddy Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 I'd ask Ziggy LOS. A coat of varnish may smooth out the dial finish....
LegendofSpeed Posted November 5, 2008 Author Report Posted November 5, 2008 that's my first thought.... and I'm going to send him a pic tonight... but i'm sitting at my desk and obsessing over it... you know how it is with this sickness...
RWG Technical Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 What kind of texture are we talking about? Paint can't cover up underlying texture, you have to eliminate the texture first and then clear coat it, and that is not always possible, especially around the numerals and lettering... RG
LegendofSpeed Posted November 5, 2008 Author Report Posted November 5, 2008 the dial is slightly rougher than an average dial... I'll send you a pic later on when I get home if it's ok.... but off-hand, if DSN's T Swiss T dial was a 3 in terms of texture (out of 10), then this dial is like a 4.5...
RWG Technical Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 Understood, I'll have a look, fyi J and I are on the road this week until Sunday, but I can still access email and RWG obviously RG
LegendofSpeed Posted November 5, 2008 Author Report Posted November 5, 2008 should i post it here for informational purposes?
vlydog Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 should i post it here for informational purposes? please do.
RWG Technical Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 should i post it here for informational purposes? Certainly, I'll have a look and let you know... RG
LegendofSpeed Posted November 5, 2008 Author Report Posted November 5, 2008 Great! And if it's something that can't be remedied, I guess I will just have to be brave and live with FGD PreA dial I have that could go in its place...
LegendofSpeed Posted November 6, 2008 Author Report Posted November 6, 2008 ok... here's the pic... i tried to get as much light on it as possible...
LegendofSpeed Posted November 6, 2008 Author Report Posted November 6, 2008 by the way, it looks worse in the macro due to it being a macro!
dluddy Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 Looks like someone sprayed a Matte varnish or clear coat on it
LegendofSpeed Posted November 6, 2008 Author Report Posted November 6, 2008 the question then is, can it be rectified or is it a goner... and would it be lumable?
RWG Technical Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 I have managed to salvage similar finished dials, careful sanding and then clear matt coating with no orange peel should fix it, no promises as you know how this stuff can go, but I will do my best... It is lumable (is that a word?) RG
LegendofSpeed Posted November 6, 2008 Author Report Posted November 6, 2008 It is lumable (is that a word?) RG [/quote It is now! Thanks for your response!
