Iwc Fa Jones With Decorated And Swiss?

Seems to me, as time goes by that I care less & less about the term, Swiss...

especially in mechanical hand winds...

CN movements are starting to make perfect sense not only in costs..

while not sacrificing reliability, but in the fact that these watches

are replicas, and will remain so, no matter the movement.

True...the flip side however remains, since these watches are getting so close to the real thing visually, one would like to have a reliable movement...Case in point...my only genuine Rolex date SS jubilee (had it for 21 years) never, ever skipped a second...the seconds hand sweeps smooth as a baby's butt. But, put side by side with my rep Omega PO ETA 2836 (methinks) the movement appears to be quite similar...and the PO is very, very accurate (I check it against the official US time @ www.time.gov)

Having said this, swiss ETA movements are produced in Asia...so swiss is as swiss as white fluffy rice and chinese as chinese as ementhal gets. Also, many reputable german and swiss manufacturers modify ETA movements to produce their own calibers and charge you hundreds more...i.e. Muhle Glashutte (an unsung hero)

Replicas are replicas...nothing beats a genuine...the feel, the weight, the satisfaction...

Regards :victory:

What's unreliable about the Asian movements? I mean how far wrong can you go with an ancient pocket watch design copy?

Touche!!! (well...more than a few months or a year...) :D

The only caveat I've ever been presented with was from OldeCrow who says that the CN Panerai movements, of which this is a variant, should only be wound face-down. I'm no expert but he paints a convincing picture.

I indeed had some problems with the asian movements, most of them

need a good overhaul/service.

With a service (cleaning/oiling) done, I believe too that this movement

is reliable.

Another possibility would be to just transplant the decorated bridges and winding gears onto a swiss 6497.

If this franken-movement is functional, it would combine optical perfection with swiss reliability...
