Crazy Frankenstein Sub Ideas/Questions

Spidey7

Recommended Posts

So, along with my busy schedule of professional vertical free-climbing (MUCH harder than the horozontal kind!), racing modified Hayabusa street bikes, and working as a "fluffer" for "celebrity" lesbian porn filmings, I have started thinking about making a crazy frankenstein Sub for my own pleasure and enjoyment. I'm not really concerned with accuracy as much as quality. She will only be for my own pleasure, a sort of Spidey7 "fantasy" model, if you will.

I was thinking about trying to take a WM9 and modify it by putting a "Maxi-Dial" into it and a green bezel insert to make it into a WM9 "LV" style, but THEN I also really like the ratcheted bracelet on the DSSD with the raised Rolly crown emblem, so I was wondering if I could put one of those on it. I've tried looking around to find all of the various dimensions and such for comparison, but I'm not finding what I need.

Soooooooo, the questions are, can a 1:1 Sub replica like the WM9 take a "Maxi-Dial" without too much difficulty? and would the bracelet from the DSSD fit on the WM9 head without looking odd at the SEL/Case joint? Also, where could an adventurer like me find the "Maxi-Dial" and the DSSD bracelet in part form? (I don't really want to have to buy three different watches just to cannibalize some parts).

If anyone has any other "style" ideas to throw into my ugly little child, feel free to comment. And if your name is "Shundi", please stop P.M.ing me pictures of all of your cats. I ALREADY told you SEVERAL TIMES that I think they're "very nice". The Maine-Coon could probably use a bath, but as a whole you have a nice little family there.

You leave my bastard cat children out of this...you're just jealous I give my love to them instead of your freakish sub...

On a more serious note: I "MAY" have a maxi dial lying around the old bench somewhere...gimme a few hours to dump this transient hobo in the woods and dance around in my mother's clothing and I'll have a look-see. I like the concept and it'll probably turn out pretty nice...

I like the sound of it :) With regards to life in general, I've always prefferred 'custom' rather than 'off the rack', and that applies equally to my taste in watches. The GMT Submariner I built last year and only recently decided to like, might well be a fantasy bastardization, and a real Frankenstein's monster in terms of parts, but it looks (within reason) exactly how I wanted it to look (well, nothing that can't be further tweaked)

I think I read that someone said that the DSSD bracelet wouldn't fit on a GMT II C, as it's wider at the lugs, so it might not fit your plan... I find that frustrating myself, as I was considering using the same bracelet for V2.0 of the GMT Sub... Instead, I might just have to settle for a regular Oyster bracelet, as that at least has a diver's extension, and that's a must for me :)

Best of luck with the project, bro, be sure to take a load of pictures once it's done :good:

Hey "TeeJay", Thanks for the info my brother. That's definately handy to know that the bracelet wouldn't even fit on the Sub case. Now I can stop looking around for one to buy.

Now, onto the movement. WHERE can I find a 2836-2 (either ETA or "clone") to be the guts of my little friend? I've seen a few on eBay, but they're always for other watches and I'm not sure they'd even fit into a Sub case. Plus, it would be kinda cool to find a clone with the appropriate markings on the movement. I know that no one else will even see it, but I'll know it's there ;). I've looked in the various "bits and pieces" for sale threads here, but if anyone here has one, they seem to be holding onto it with both hands. Why is it soooooooo hard? Can't someone just make my dream watch for me and drop it into my lap?................PLEASE?..................Anyone?

If you use a donor watch you might have the movement issue solved... if not, you can get a new ETA from Ofrei I believe or ask one of the collectors to source the Asian ETA...

Not sure if you need some sort of spacer for the movement (most likely) and maybe someone like Tribal or The Zigmeister can comment on this aspect...

No problem, bro, I wouldn't want to swear to that info being accurate, but I'm sure I read it only a few days ago. It might be worth looking at the DSSD threads, and maybe seeing if an owner could measure the lug width :)

I forgot to say, if you're using a Maxi Dial, you definitely need to stick with the larger hands as well. Regular sub hands are dwarfed by a Maxi Dial...
