old accutron watches

db1

Recommended Posts

Hey,

i was thinking of the old accutron watches, these who had the vintage pre-quartz tuning fork movmenets (older than quartz, yet much cooler :) ) which allowed the seconds to sweep damn smooth, yet being battery powered.

how these watches are like? did anyone owned one?

how accurate and reliable are these movements?

looks like complicated electrical movement (sort of a hybrid mechanical and electric mechanism?)

There are several versions, the 214, 218, etc- earlier ones need careful "setting-up" to work with today's batteries. They are good movements. I prefer the later ESA 9160-9162 tuning fork movements, however- in Omega, Tissot, Longines, and others- look for Omega F300 for example. I have a bunch of Omegas, Accutrons, and like them all.
