One good rule of thumb for the "well turned out" is that your watch should be equal to about 3x your suit. Lots of people get a great watch and an off-the-rack suit; common but not well matched.

If your best suit retails for $600 to $1000, then a low end Rollie or average Omega will match and speak well of your taste and "means"

If you are wearing Armani for $2-3K, Day Date (precious metal) Rolex or Daytona.

If you are wearing Brioni, Zegna etc for $5-6K and up, F'em wear a Timex, Swatch or whatever you want. Just make sure the shoes and tie measure up. There are no reps in the high end suit, shoes, and tie game

And remember, Panerai is always perfect.

I'd never heard that rule, but it's certainly an interesting one :)
