Scratched Dials

i wanted to know if there is something that could be done to remove scatches from dials?

Is the dial matte or gloss finish?

I find that a coat or two of clear varnish in the appropriate finish works wonders

My 1665 dial with scratch above the date window...

Same dial after 2 coats of matte varnish..
