  2. So today I was at Home Depot. I am replacing a window sill and I had to get some wood cut to size. The gentleman that came over to help me was, shall we say, somewhat "seasoned" in his years, very helpful and very pleasant. He remarked on how he thought it was great a "young guy" like me (I'm 46) would tackle a job like replacing a window sill "everyone these days just wants to replace everything. . .nobody fixes things anymore". As he set up for the cut with the table saw, I noticed something very familiar on his wrist. "That's quite a prize you've got there" I said pointing at his arm. He looked at the bruise mid forearm and said "yeah. I got that restocking. . .you bruise easily when you get old like me". . I said "no-no, your 1680" "my what?" "your WATCH". He glanced at his wrist and smiled a wry smile "yeah, nobody around here can believe I wear a Rolex to work around here" And he looked at my wrist, which was sporting my franken 5512 on Nato. "Neither can I", I said, "you really shouldn't be wearing that around here". He then tell me that he bought it off a friend "years ago". He was always asking his friend "hey Bill, when are you gonna sell me your Rolex?" Then he says one day Bill came to him and asked if he would still buy the watch "you see, Bill had taken his girlfriend on a little vacation and didn't want his wife to find out, so he needed $400 bucks quick to put back in the bank". "You paid $400 for that?" "Yeah, but then I didn't wear it for a long time. I stuck it in my drawer. A while ago, my other watch finally kicked. I was going to buy another watch but then remembered this (looking at his wrist) and whatdoyaknow, a gave it a few winds and she's been working fine ever since". "May I see it?" Sure, he says and slides it off his wrist. It's nearly pristine. A 1680, meters first, red dial, silver date wheel, Top Hat 127 all original fantastic patina. . . I've got a semi going. . .o.k. fine, I came in my pants a little. He then proceeds to tell me when his old watch died he was originally thinking of selling it "you know, get something new. Something better", but that something made him decide to keep it. I told him I was glad he did, but that he should still get a different watch to wear to work. "Yeah, you're probably right, people probably think I make too much money wearing a $400 watch, ha ha" "ummmmm. That's worth a LOT more than $400. . ." "yeah, I guess it's an antique these days, huh? I suppose it could be worth a little more than that now" "Try 15 times more" silence. "ah. . .you're putting an old man on, now. . ." I borrow a passer-by's iPad, log onto VRF and show him. He actually cried.

  3. Hi all and welcome back All maintenance tasks and upgrades have now been performed and RWG is back online and should be accessible for all members. There are a few changes, as you probably can see. I'll just comment on a couple of these for now and get back with more info later, as some of the new feature have not bee activated yet. As you can see, the forum has a new design. We now also only have 1 design for all members to use (+ our mobile skin + mobile apps). The new design has been selected, as it is a bit more compact and offers a better overview of the forum than the previous one. Some other things have also been bugging me with the previous one, like no default searh bar visible (had to make manual changes to the design to make this work), better menu (all menu items visible at one) and some other annoyances. I have also chosen to have just 1 design to make future upgrades/patching easier. So I hope you all like it. I know some of you will think it is a it strange in the begining, but experience show that all members usually get used to the new design within a week or so Some forums have been merged (Humor and Off topic, for instance) and all brand forums now have their own subsection. I have also changed the knowledge base and watchmaker resource center into one section; resource center. VIP and platinum members have access to a brand new feature: Content spy There is a link to it in the top menu and there is also a small box in the sidebar. Content Spy an application that allows users to view a near-realtime stream of activity, with a full dynamic page of content. Go ahead and try it out. Want access? Go ahead an upgrade your membership That's it for now. I'll get back later with more info and more new features. Please consider upgrading your membership or use our donation feature to the right, as we need your support to cover our costs every month!

  4. The one you mention is the Royal Oak Offshore Chronopassion V4, if you want the Chronopassion I advice you to take the V5 http://www.puretime.co/product/royal-oak-offshore-ultimate-chronopassion-v5-grey-dial-on-black-rubber-strap-a7750/ but beware, the Chronopassion is a Titanium watch with bead blasted finish. It gets easily scratched and you can't get the scratches out because it's bead blasted. If you want the watch that is in this review then you need the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Black Themes, which is this one: http://www.puretime.co/product/royal-oak-offshore-ultimate-edition-black-dial-on-bracelet-a7750/ You need to ask for the rubber band if you prefer that. I would advice not to go with the rep leather band as it is not of good quality. Also ask for the latest ultimate version with AR'ed cyclopse and updated datewheel. Good luck!

  6. Before you try to work on the movement...push the detent button and remove the stem. Then push the detent button again and insert the stem as far as it will go while slowly twisting it back and forth a few degrees and release the button. Pull out on the crown and see if it will click out into setting position. If it does, push the crown in to winding position and see if you can wind the watch. If it will set and wind...it is Ok. If not, read the paragraph below. That is a Seagull ST6D. They are easy to work on, but only after you memorize how the autowind assembly goes back together. To fix what is wrong (set lever out of position) you need to remove the aw assembly first, but there is always catch...if there is any power on the mainspring, little bitty stuff will fly everywhere when you remove the two screws that hold the aw assembly together. Anyway, what has to be done after removing the aw assembly is to remove the screw from the big wheel on the mainspring bridge and then remove the mainspring bridge. Next, take the two little gears out of the slot where the stem went through them to expose the set lever and push the set lever back into place and put it all back together. Nothin' to it. I have had so many of these cussed ST6 set levers slip by that I can reset the set lever in about 10 or 12 minutes. I am not bragging, I am complaining. Some tips on the ST6D... It has a plastic date part or two and if you try to quick set the date while it is changing, it can break a plastic part and the date will not work properly. You can let the power off the mainspring by placing a screwdriver in the screw in the center of the big wheel on the ms bridge and tightening it a tiny bit to take tension off the click spring and then move the click spring away from the ms wheel teeth while slowly letting the power off the ms by allowing the screwdriver to turn as the ms unwinds. This sounds a lot more complicated than it really is. Or you can do what I do...unscrew the screw on the big wheel and lift the wheel off and let it 'fly down' all at once. This is against all proper procedure but it is quick and easy. After all...it's a $15 movement. If you break anything, let me know and I will send the parts gratis...for some reason I have a lot of leftovers.

  9. Beautiful watch my friend. The best way to install new bezel insert is to line it up properly with the pearl correctly positioned, tilt the pearl side down under the lip of the bezel, while holding firmly and rotating the watch upside down, work both thumbs around the insert until they get to 5 & 7, then press like popping a pimple and work toward the 6. If you are unable to apply enough pressure with just your thumbs, then cover the edge of a wood table or desk with a dish towel and bring the watch up under the table top edge, protected by towel, and apply additional pressure with the protected edge against the insert. She will pop into the retainer edge of the bezel. A good cold shot of Dos Equis chasing down Don Pilar Tequila Anejo will help to steady those hands for this procedure. Stay thirsty my friend.

  10. So you have a different opinion on the A7750. No problem! But I see no reason to discard my post as 'crap'. I took the time to share my thoughts with the rest. What have you contributed to this forum my friend?

  11. Ive said in the past that I am up for a creative resolution to this problem. Be it a partial refund or him getting me a real MBW case, things are open for negotiation. I have yet to receive any word from him other than his post on this board. Still no resolution.
