  3. Sporting Performance Watches made by Audemars Piguet Engineered by Audemars Piguet to the exacting standards of the world’s most successful race car driver, the Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph Michael Schumacher features an imposing, 44 mm case which is available in 1,000 pieces made from titanium; 500 pieces made from 18 carat pink gold and 100 pieces made from platinum 950. The anthracite grey dial, decorated with the Royal Oak Offshore’s famous ” Mega Tapisserie ” pattern, is subtly marked at the circumference of the tachymetre scale between the 12 and one positions with two blue and five red stars symbolising the driver’s record seven championship victories, two driving for Benetton in 1994 and 1995 and five driving for Ferrari from 2000 – 2004. The minute track, meanwhile, is depicted with a discreet, black and white pattern evoking the design of a chequered flag and the galvanic chronograph counters (black on the titanium and pink gold editions, blue on the platinum edition) feature raised frames based on the dashboard instruments of a high-performance car. The automotive imagery is further extended to the hour and minute hands which are of a form never before seen. Made from facetted gold with a white luminescent coating, they are loosely inspired by the silhouette of a racing car’s monocoque. The red-lacquered chronograph hands that complement them have been designed with especially blackened heads in order to help focus the eye on the indication and, for the first time ever on a Royal Oak Offshore, the date display is also in red. Although the Royal Oak Offshore’s instantly recognisable shape is retained, the case material and details of the Michael Schumacher limited edition are specific to this watch. The one-piece, octagonal bezel is made from ultra-resistant Cermet, a material that is seven times more durable than steel and secured with eight automotive-style domed and inset nuts. The specially – designed rubber strap – grey on titanium and pink gold editions, blue on the platinum edition – is attached by microblasted, satin-brushed titanium studs which emulate a racing car’s cooling scoops, while the microblasted crown (made from either titanium, pink gold or white gold) is machined to resemble a gear wheel and adorned with a red anodised, aluminium plate carrying the Audemars Piguet logo. Microblasted titanium guards protect the polished black ceramic pushpieces, which are topped with caps of either titanium, white or pink gold. Michael Schumacher – A life in Records Michael Schumacher was born on January 3rd, 1969 and began his motorsport career as a boy, racing karts. By the age of 20 he had won German drivers’ championships in both Formula Konig and Formula Three, before being signed as a driver for Benetton Formula One in 1991. He won his first two world championships for the team in 1994 and 1995 before moving to Ferrari in 1996, with which he won five consecutive drivers titles between 2000 and 2004.

  4. It's about 5 years old. I got it from Silix. I may sell it, but without the Swiss 7750 in it.

  6. I would not post the dealer's name until/unless your bank or credit card company verifies them as the thief. 1 of the other manifestations of our modern age is hacking store & bank accounts, which was the cause of my similar credit card problems (twice). In both cases, the bank & credit card company located the criminals & dealt with them. Since then, I use a random credit card generator for all online purchases, which the bank provides (check with your bank to see if they offer a similar service).

  9. In 1965, I graduated from college and my first job paid a grand 400.00 USD /month gross.I believe I brought home about 325-330. So buying a 200.00 USD watch represented a pretty good chunk of not very readily available change. And considering that there were lots and lots of folks out in the world who were making quite a bit less per month, buying a Rolex wasn't something that you did on the spur of the moment. I bet few people walked in to a jewelry store on a whim and walked out with a new Sub or Daytona. As Freddy said, while the Daytonas were not budget model. I believe that one of the reasons it was not as popular was at the time it was a "Retro" watch. Practically everyone was producing auto wind/ date dialed watches, the Daytona was a throwback. It was a manual wind non date watch. This was a period of time when America was beginning to go upscale in a big way,Ii believe that lots of buyers felt that the Daytona wasn't quite modern enough for them. I bought one in about 1978, just couldn't get used to the manual wind, non date, and traded it for a submariner or SeaDweller (I can't remember which) after owning it for only a few weeks

  10. Yes, I would definitely agree with that. At the time they were for sale, they were considered good, quality watches; mostly for professionals (in the case of Rolex tool watches). They were not budget or commodity items by any means. But neither were they treated like the icons they are today.

  11. Great stuff. I have a liking for the 1016 and I have an old cartel version with eta 2836 inside. One spring bar has snapped so I can't wear it any more but I have a question. Is it a good platform for modding into a decent rep? I got it from Joshua about 5 years ago.

  12. Well I shouldn't be surprised that you know of it I have no doubt that rolex never made these, I really just liked the look and wanted to attempt it. I love the older gilt sport models like the explorer 1 that had gilt dials and hands.

  13. freddy333 is the 6542 Master, I learned from him. In fact I came here looking for knowledge about vintage Rolex GMT while a member elsewhere. RolexAddict got my attention in Vintage GMTs on that other site, and I came here and found freddy333's 'Phase 1' in progress. First look and I was hooked, and built my first shortly after, even buying his first acrylic insert from him. . He was the point, the 'pathfinder'. I was fortunate to have his work and knowledge to build on. People like freddy333 are what make RWG the "great knowledge base for rollies". We all benefit from his, and all those who share their knowledge, example.
