  3. Here are some thoughts I feel inclined to post. Please feel free to add yours. While the noob watch themselves have been highly touted for some time now, the movement itself leaves a lot to be desired per my recent encounters. I looked around for a review of the Asia 2813 by The Zigmeister but I could not find one. Please feel free to post it if I overlooked it. I have made 3 "noob" recommendations over the past few weeks. My word on the line, I am concerned that I have made a mistake by suggesting that these are inexpensive great "out of the box" watches. Most of my referals may not notice rehaut thickness, but a watch that stops keeping time, that they will notice. Here are some specifics: -The rotor is very loud. It vocally "clicks" in one direction, (this direction is assumingly winding the watch). When spun the opposite direction, some sort of built up energy seems to be releasing itself as the rotor spins on, and on, and on... for all to hear! "Is my watch supposed to make loud grinding noises?" "Why is that watch making so much noise?".. Not good. Not expected. -The power reserve is, well, nill. Once or twice a day, the watch will just stop. -The date change position slips. The crown needs to be pushed in, then the date position reingaged to continue to change the date. - The movement will stop when the crown is fully screwed down. This can be fixed by trimming the stem. - The hack feature does not work on one of them. So what to do? I'm not a watchsmith, but i'm slowly becoming one, as I seem to be "fixing" so many of my watches. I've resigned myself to the fact that I must immediately turn my focus towards puprchasing course materials and take the timezone watch school. Maybe then I will feel confident with movement upgrades for these watches. On that, I hope the DG movement is the direction we should be heading in, and is a serviceable movement with parts availability. Comments on this are encouraged. I would also like to know what genuine ETA movement is a direct replacement to the Asian2813, if any. Answer- 2836-2 Something else to note, the beat is 21K, not 28K.. Most of you know this. This is not disclosed, most noob watch descriptions simply states Asian 2813 movement. This flaw is as visibly noticeable as any other though, if not more. A lot of you know this information already, but there are people that come here to learn what we do not already know. If this post helps someone in the future, then my efforts were not a waste. I do not see these as long term reliable engines. I hope this thread helps answer some questions our "noobs" might be wondering.

  5. I'm willing to get a better case... Should I go for it? Here's my broad strokes so far... 1)PT case 2)ETA Swiss 2836-2 serviced in 2011 3)InGod gilt dial, with tritium style vintage lume. 4)Raffles rivet bracelet. 5)Genuine Rolex crown. 6)Tropic19 Superdome crystal. 7)Mods by Donerix: Aged and softened case with reamed lug holes, faded insert with aged pearl, aged hands and dial. 8)Gunny leather strap. 9)Vintage Rolex 18mm SS buckle

  6. Sometimes smaller is better and a 702 is period-correct and exponentially cooler too. The money you save on the case will pay for the 702. Win/win.

  8. I personally, don't like the Josh case builds that much. The stubby crown guards always look so off - it makes me sad for all the time/money invested in the builds. Highjoey... is putting out a decent case set for $400ish soon. Maybe wait for it? Akira

  9. That's a beautiful scene! It looks like what I see out my windows but the mountains start at my door, not at a distance. Here is my outing yesterday, trying to track that wounded brown bear. The river is freezing in the middle and water is flowing over the ice like a waterfall. It's called "overflow" and can choke a river. The river level has come up 6 feet already, it's almost over the blanks.

  14. True! And the reps are showing exact time.... And still they are looking good. But even rep-enthusiasts are spending a lot of money on watches...

  15. +1. The vast majority of people buy expensive watches simply because it is a status symbol......very simply put, look how well I have done. And there is nothing wrong with it. If there weren't gen luxury watches there wouldn't be reps. And we would have no fun.

  18. Luxury goods creates exclusivity mainly to those who can afford it. They become part of a small group or tribe that have 'it'. Being part of this exclusive tribe would of course make this person feel very good about it. We see this everyday like the gold, platinum or black credit card..naturally so some of us want to be part of this exclusive group. Seeing more and more people like the general public with these goods (i.e gen or rep) loses its exclusivity value and some of these members get upset....one reason is by having to fork out $$ for something that should not cost that much really.... .but that is the whole idea behind luxury goods. The story behind the brand, pedigree, the list famous people all make it very desirable... and being part of that and the emotions that go with it.
