  1. I agree with you to and some extent,. but I've been on this forum for almost 7 years, and was on the old TRC for probably 4-5 years before that. Do you know how many posts I have seen like the one above. Obviously someone who has come on here and not done any research, read any reviews, but wants me to find him a watch. If you are truly interested in the forum, you will make your first posts pertinent within a forum that interests you. If you are interested in a Rolex 16610, then go to the Rolex forum and ask questions there, Not who has the best 16610, but why is a TC sub better than a Puretime sub? Or can I expect better accuracy, longevity, etc from and ETA movement rather than a Asian clone? Obviously you have been reading and researching, which I admire. What you now face is the dilema of who to believe. When the scam sites call us a scam site,it's just their feeble attempt to steer you away from the truth. they don't want you over here interacting with more experienced rep lovers because we will expose them for what they are.

  2. As I see it, there are two groups of people that are hated: -- the ones who wave their rep around, going "Look at my expensive watch! Look how rich I am!" -- the ones who try to sell a rep as a gen If you don't fit in either of those groups, you don't have a problem

  3. The Sisu or the Lum-Tec Then you have the Storm, The TechnoMarine, Prometheus, Jorg Gray, Orient, Dievas, I mean it goes on and on... I could list more but why not just go to the watch blogs and watch review sites like Blogtowatch etc as these list brands known unknown and new etc Here is a link to those sites mate or rather some of them http://www.invesp.com/blog-rank/watches I aint sure why you think Stowa is $150 they get much more expensive than that... most come with decorated Swiss movements

  4. If I wanted a bracelet I would walk in with a gen watch on a $5 rubber strap, and tell them the bracelet broke. I'm sure they would sell to you

  7. Scratches and dings are small price to pay for the remarkably controlled chaos our our society (even Canada!). I can't help but chuckle at the people with those ridiculous Bumper Bullys dangling from their cars. Free yourself of material worship - waste of time. Don't be mad, I like nice things too, I just like them banged up a little.

  8. Unfortunately, even if you find the culprit, it's going to be pretty hard to pin anything on him unless one of the surveillence cameras got the whole thing on tape. all he isx going to say is "I don't know what you're talking about, I was never in that parking lot, and by the time you file a charge for hit and run damage, his car will be spotless, no paint ,no damage and never been there. i'm afraid this as freddy said "another part of the rich pagent of life". Park further away next time. I try to park as far out in a parking lot as possible, unless it's at night and I park closer for security reasons. The Fat asses in their minivans aren't going to bother you if your park 40 acres away from the front door!!

  9. Ha, ZK - I actually get that a lot, not sure why, oh well. Talked to the insurance and a hit and run goes under collision which is a $1000 deductable rather than my usual $300 for incidental. When I found realized it was going to be $1000 bucks I immediately thought about the watches I wouldn't get to buy with that grand! SGT - that sounds a lot worse than what this person did but I've already started sluthing and should be able to figure out who hit my car. Hockey game between two towns (all minors, so their parents would be driving) just show up to the next game they play and look for the damaged minivan and hope the driver isn't a big dude!

  10. Yay, this topic is back, cool! You have to be annoyed that the guy with the $300 Panerai REP gets exactly the same satisfaction from that watch that you get from your $8000 Submariner! So they bag on reps, their low quality and blatant flaws while they see reps everyday and have no idea that they are looking at anything less than a gen. Ever see a rep/gen comparison video on Youtube, half of them have some guy holding a $30 street corner sub with a 21600 movement and a broken bezel up against a gen, they would crap themselves in the presence of a UPO straight out of the box, no mods! or a PAM005, hell even the questionable accuracy of the 116610 reps would blow them away. I don't feel better when I wear a gen over a rep and I don't feel better wearing a rep of a $10000 gen than I do when wearing an actual gen. I get the same satisfaction from all of my watches because I just like wearing nice watches and wearing reps allows me to wear many different watches, in many different styles without completely breaking the bank. That said, Goddammmmm I need me that new Ceramic Planet Ocean! Oh and a Flyback Panerai Luminor, yeah yeah, that's the ticket! And I want a Calibre 17RS Grand Carrera, but that's all I need, as long as I get those I'm set. Those and maybe a new DateJust..... I think you get the picture. Yay, this topic is back, cool! 14. Great post Pete!! Sadly, a great number of the noobs who come on the forum have exactly that mindset. Too darn lazy or too stupid to use the search function. It amazes me that they were able to find RWG. Our problem is we are helpful and gentle with the noobs, we spoon feed them, thinking this is a good guy, he's really interested in reps, wants to learn more, yada, yada, yada. When in fact he is none of the above, he's a wannabe who is trying to find a great rep so he can impress his loser friends with his "genuine Rolex". Actually he's too lazy to find one himself, he wants me to spend my time lookinig for him. "I'm too busy to search the forum, dealers websites ,etc, just send me the links" I believe that what we should do with all the "one posters" is answer their requesat with one word- SEARCH!!!!!

  16. nbtimes is an interesting example. Years ago, I suspected something was up with him because he always came to VRF with absolutely pristine examples of rare watches. Often, appearing with 3 or 4 new pristine rarities in the space of 3-4 days (1 new rarity/day). While not impossible, this was happening, it seemed to me, far too often to be kosher. So I posted a question on VRF about a couple of nbtimes' watches & got blasted by virtually the entire senior membership & then had my account deleted. So much for a free exchange of ideas. Then, a couple years later, I believe it was Philipp, 1 of the more salient regulars there, posted virtually the same questions I had, but it sparked an open debate instead of the lambasting I got. But, now, many are questioning nbtimes' & others who seem to have more luck in the hunt than seems realistic. Some years ago, it was heresay to speak openly about changing a dial or replacing any other component of a Rolex with a part or version of a part that the model was not originally fitted with. I cannot tell you how many times questions would be posted (often by what were clearly RWG members) asking where to source replacement dials, rotors, inserts, bridges, etc in an obvious effort to modify/upgrade a Rolex watch. These threads nearly always went unanswered or were deleted by the moderators. However, sometime within the past year or so, this line-in-the-sand seems to have been erased, as it is now commonplace for lengthy threads discussing how much better a Daydate looks with its 'new' Stella dial, or a Sub has been improved with its newly sourced 'chocolate' dial or sun-'bleached' insert, or how thankful a 1680 owner is for the assistance he received in sourcing the red dial that now makes his watch.

  17. "This is an interesting read. Now I am less inclined to buy gen vintage, that is if I ever was in the market for one in the future." Staying away from vintage rolex is pretty good advice in today's market...Frankensteins, welder jobs, fake parts (cases, bezels, dials etc claimed to be genuine), insane prices, and no parts for many models. The downside to the watches we put together is that after they leave our hands, they may show up for sale as 'all genuine' and someone who can not tell the difference (the vast majority of buyers) will pay the genuine price. Otoh, as time goes by, many more 'genuine' watches will become Frankensteins because of lack of parts. In 25 or 35 years they will probably end up all mixed together anyway (if they are still popular) and the burden of genuine vs replica will be 100% on the buyer because by then all the sellers will have 'clammed up' to protect their investment. "You know a forum is [censored] up when you cant criticise a dealer without the fear of a law suit." What's funny is the guy who has the lawsuit against VRF now was busted for all kinds of small time crimes after the VRF forum members busted him on the forum for making fake punched papers. Evidently the guy was a real crook and now he is going after the 'good guys'. Looks like they screwed with an 'outsider' who was not really a 'VRFer'...a VRF***er maybe. VRF guys sure stick together though...as long as you lick your wounds in private.

  19. Ok. Couple of weeks ago I received my IWC V2 44mm Top Gun (not the dopple). Crono pusher got stuck in so went to a watchsmith and he managed to fix. All seemed good. Then couple of days later 2 problems arose: (1) the hour and minutes hands stopped moving at 00.30, but the seconds continued. This coincided with the day wheel not changing over (date yes; day no). (2) in using the crono the pusher stuck again. In freeing it it came out! Both pushers can be pulled out with minimal effort. I've been back to a watchsmith twice and he has tried to fix these, but they keep comming out. Now have paid like €70 for the 2 visits. Am in contact with the dealer awaiting reply on what to do. But - has anyone had such experience? i'm thinking the day wheel can be resolved with a movement service (am based in EU so need to locate someone trustworthy), but the worrying thing for me are these damn crono pushers. Thoughts guys? Should this be returned, or keep tryong to fix here in EU? Thanx

  21. People at all levels of social stratification work very hard to get to a certain level of success and prosperity measured against their peers. This success is represented by status and quality of their property and social circles. Facebook counted on this. So most people live in neighborhoods that reflect their level success and often choose cars, clothes, food, and other discretionary, and non discretionary items this way. Luxury watches are no different. So if you work really hard, or live a life of privilege, and the symbols of your social circles are GEN Daytonas, you will expect to have a certain rapport even with strangers sporting GEN Daytonas. And chances are you will have some common ground that is acceptable within your in-common social strata. If the person is wearing a rep AND they do not belong at your social level, you will wonder about their credibility, honesty, and many other things. Why some people actually get angry is hard to say but it probably has to do with taking offense in a personal way. That rep wearer does not deserve to wear the same symbols that I wear, or the fact that there are frauds among us cheapens our worth. Just speculating on your interesting subject
