...ohh... the more I undecided ... I think I'm gonna ask the steelsmith to do it handmade, means made one by one piece. That 500pcs minimum qty will use machine that designed exactly with the specs from my diagram. I think by make it one by one no need to have 500 pcs, maybe 100 pcs is okay, but the price might be more expensive, but at leas I can use it for myself to accompany my Gunny Straps. If this small project success then I might go for that 500pcs machine made. Was genuine GPFMod made by hand one by one or mass produced by machine? has anybody know? but from looking pictures from V seems they're made one by one handmade. I dont know for sure. And I also think that it will be unbranded/unstamped with GPFMod Dep, so I wont be interfered with any "law" things, eventhough GPFMod is not patented. How is it guys?

Hi all, I was offered by friend whom can make buckle for me coz she knows that now I make leather straps, a certified 316L SS buckle. Then I think why don't I make GPFMod style buckle since this is most sought-after buckle for any PAM's addict. Then I make some drawings of it (based on pictures available on net) and show her if she can produce that and she said that she can do it. But the problem is the minimum quantity, she asked for 1000pcs but then downsized to 500pcs. I'm not sure about it, I only need around 200pcs for my straps, 100 for 24mm & 100 for 26mm, and don't know what to do with the others 300pcs. I need idea from all of you expert guys here about this, should I accept her offering for that 500pcs? if I sell the other 300 here & other forums, will it works? the price for each might be around $12. The SS will be 2mm thick, brushed finished. I need your input guys. Best regards, Peter.

Here I post some pictures of my other straps, as some PM asking about that. 1. Tan color, vintage looks, distressed, almost resemble the one at PAM 2005 catalogo page 11. (maybe doesn't match with the watch, it shud be better to suit 203 or 127 or 217 or any 1950 series), thickness +/- 5 to 6mm 2. Hi Mike, I just ordered a 104 from DSN too n paid it by moneygram, the watch hasnt arrived yet, probably end of this week or early of next week. In my case he did sent photo of my watch without I asked for, I write email to him mentioning all criteria that I want in my 104 and told him to make sure everything is correct, he replied 'well noted' and send me that picture a days later. Quite strange that biggest diff is handmade vs machine made, but thats the reality. I just dont get it why handmade is more desirable because I dont see any impact from handmade to its strengthness or stitching consistency, or maybe because leather strap is considered as luxury goods, just like a handmade rolls royce vs machine made toyota.

Thanx for the info Jawo!, Seems ur PAM strap is raw-cut edges, is that true that raw-cut edges usually lead to higher price? because most of very expensive straps like manifratture firenze vintage are raw-cut edges. Or maybe they want to show the leather's authenticity through edges? Second things I've read today is, hand-stiched vs machine-sewn strap. I know that machine sewn is much faster therefore lead to lower production cost while hand-stiched is slow n cause increase in their labor-cost, but how can somobody recognize if the strap is hand-sewn or machine-sewn? what is the benefit of hand-sewn strap vs machine-sewn, is it stronger? or more beautiful looking? why some people want to pay higher price for a hand-sewn? Third things, seems the thickness should come from the leather itself, not from padding/inserting a cushion beneath top & bottom leather, am I correct? Fourth, is it true that leather strap without back-lining tend to more expensive than the one with back-lining?

I have surfed to many source of leather as I saw in http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=1640 they're all very good strap (I'm talking about PAM's calf strap, not croco/buffalo/ostrich/etc). Some straps offered above $120, some $60-$90, and some below $40. They're all mentioned "genuine calf leather". I just wonder what makes some straps much more expensive than the others, is it because the leather material itself or its softness or its workmanship or design or what. Btw, I feel that font "LUMINOR MARINA" & "PANERAI Automatic" on DSN seems too thin compared to gen, on gen seems more fat/thick, I don't know if its only my feelings or what. But combining all factors mentioned in this thread, DSN's is still the best option for 104.
