  1. My AD just picked this line up...why I don't know...Devon Watch Yes, $15K for a quartz watch. :bangin: Comes with its own charging stand and will run off 2 weeks on a single charge. Very cool concept, but the piece really felt cheap and and a hunk of plastic on my wrist. A mechanical movement would be impressive, but still :yuk:.The running seconds made such a loud tick it would drive anyone within 6 feet of you to tear it off your wrist.

    What do your guys think?

  2. Couple reason...

1.) Being a P. ME, I love to tinker, modify and develop my own ideas …I could never see myself doing this with a $4K time piece. And if I screw it up, I don’t care.

2.) I like to see how the watch suits me prior to laying down thousands of dollars on some thing that I will be sick of after a couple of weeks. Rep give me a good sense of knowing if I really want the watch before I go break the bank.

3.) A rep is still a rep. Yes they have evolved leaps in bounds in their quality, but they are still not the real thing. Keep in mind reps are a duplicate of work that has already been completed. It is much, much, easier to reverse engineer some thing that has already been made. Looks at some of the high-end Asian brand watches…they are equally expensive as their Swiss counterparts. Why? Because of the R&D required to develop them and NOT copy some thing.

4.) Gen forums a all about how much someone spent on their time piece and not about…well what we have around here.

You wife is right about, "your buying a brand name on a bracelet"…but you can say that about a $1000 purse, $600 blue jeans, $800 shoes and just about anything else…Want to get her going…Tell her that the diamond in here ring is "Just a rock pulled out of the ground." You want to talk some thing that is overpriced… :thumbsupsmileyanim: I takes years to develop and tool up a watch and its movements. Breitling spent 7 years developing, testing and refining their B01 movement. It takes a week to pull a rock out of the ground and turn it into a jewelry quality stone, no R&D required.

  3. Very nice piece!

Gen hands...Breitling hands are one use only. You put them on once and they are typically destroyed when they are removed during service. I know watchmakers that cut the hands off and replace the 60s Chrono wheel, Cannon pinion and hour wheel, because the hands are next to impossible to remove. Where the hands opened up so they could be re-used?

  4. If you're gonna get mugged for your watch, they will take it whether it be an old timex or a 100K AP.

Basically don't be a numpty and wave your arm around wildly pretending to not show it off, don't flash to all and sundry at the bar and you should be ok.

Thieves do know a lot more about watches then ever before, there has been such a massive push on them in the last 5-10 years that people know whats what now.

Like most things in life, don't be a d1ck and it won't come back to bite you in the balls!!

    Sixx :bones:

Great advise! Hence my .45 comment above...as in Colt .45 ACP. :whistling: Chance favors the prepared mind. -Louis Pasteur

Come on Sixx, let me here it bro…you damn gun wielding Yankees. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  5. to me, the question is not which value watch would i be comfortable wearing, but rather which value watch would i be comfortable buying...

I agree with HackR on this point. If you are comfortable laying down the funds for any watch, then you should be comfortable wearing it. If I can afford it, and I am comfortable with buying it, then I am comfortable with the potential damage or loss. So I am going to wear it and enjoy it. Is that not why we buy Reps or Gens…to enjoy them (other then we all suffer from the same sickness)? :thumbsupsmileyanim: If it gets scratched, scratches can be polished out. If it gets dropped, it can be fixed. If it gets lost, that is what insurance is for. If someone is going to try to take it off my left wrist...there is a .45 on my right hip…but what are the chances of this ever happening unless you intentionally put yourself in a shady situation.

  6. that is 100% correct. i just played with the a23322 at a local AD to figure out if i could use a swiss 7753 as is for my navi project... and indeed, you have to set the date as chefcook already mentioned...

Not entirely true either... While you can not set the date buy running the hands back and forth over 12am, you can in fact change the date buy running the hands past 12am then back to 8pm or so, then back to 12am…this is enough to re-engage the spring on the date change wheel to the date wheel. All most Gen B's with 7753's work this way. Not very fast but much faster then having to cycle the hands through 24 hours.

  7. Hey andreww, good to see ya! What are the chances of using one of these A7753's and a gen dial to make a Tricompax rep, given that I have a Breiting font datewheel for an A7750. Could I use the same datewheel, do you think?

The Gen dials DW is further outboard (further away from center) then the A7750, so the 2 together would not work. You would need to use the Rep dial.
