  1. Has anybody ever thought to fit a seiko calibre SKAXzzz (what ever) to a rep ???

It will create a "for ever going" watch. :)

I too have wondered why this isn't done often too. I always figured there must be a good reason, but have never seen it posted anywhere. I also wonder why they don't use Myota movements too. They're cheap and also relatively accurate and reliable. I'll have to leave this to the experts to answer.

  2. Ha imagine that... I never thought that I could offer up any useful info to you TT. :)

I believe that all Seiko movements are all in-house (manufacture) movements and the one used in the Orient 300m just doesn't have the manual wind and hacking functions. Although you could technically hack by holding the crown backwards. I know it was a bit weird at first, but once I got used to it it's very simple.

  3. One thing I'd like to mention about the lume. Every time I'm with somebody in my car and I drive into an underground parking structure the thing glows like it's literally radioactive. People comment on it every single time. The only others that I've gotten similar comments on were my Pams/GP Seahawk II/Seiko's. Personally, I think the Orient 300m beats them all, except the Seiko Frankenmonster which has so much lume material that it just about puts everything I've ever seen to shame.

  4. That is a nice piece. Being new to this one...what is the point of the non-hand winding automatic movement?? Are they just trying to make the thing 100% auto?

I don't know what the purpose is, but I can say that this thing only requires a few quick shakes and it'll start to run for quite some time. The power reserve also charges extremely quickly. For some weird reason it charges much much faster than any other watch I've had. So in application this thing is easier to live with than other autos I have. Where as the others require me to manually wind them for several turns the Orient 300m only requires 2 to 3 quick shakes and I can set the time/date and I'm off.

  5. Great pick up Skool. I've got one myself and it truely does have insame lume. I'm a self professed lume freak and this one does it for me. Also, you might want to look into sourcing a New Old Stock Omega Mesh bracelet for this sucker. After I put one on it's never come off. It just makes the watch that much better. Congrats and enjoy!

  6. The XXL is my father's daily beater so I've only handled it for that one photoshoot...

As far as I can tell the watch is VERY accurate... even the movement is an Asian copy of the genuine so it looks realistic from the back as well...

The lume is very good as well. 59 hour power reserve, according to dad...

Thanks for the info Corgi. Hmm... I've always liked the RM XXL. I need to go adjust my list. :D

  7. For the simple reason that there are more dealers out there, than the handful who are given 'trusted status', and people are curious about them. I've always gone on personal recommendation, and that has lead me to an excellent dealer, who I use for the majority of my purchases. It's not a case of being a rebel or going against the grain, just one of thinking 'outside the box' :)

Yeah, I know TJ. I don't find fault with anyone who wants to venture away from the norm, but I do think that when in doubt go with the known rather than the unknown. Especially since prices usually aren't a determining factor.

  8. Ok. Don't make fun of me for this, but the cheapest and still quite protective way of carrying watches is with a tube sock. Many of those flat case designs, e.g. the military velcro one, is that the caseback will always be getting scratched by the bracelet. It'll work well for leather bands, though. So what I do is:

Take the "toe" of the sock and put it through the middle of the watch (where your wrist goes). Keep hold of the toe and take the ankle part (where you stick your foot into) and turn it inside out to fully cover the watch, so the toe protects case back and the "heel" part of the sock is wrapped around the head, so crystal/case/bracelet is all protected. You can then use the part you just pulled over the first watch to go through the bracelet of a second, and wrap that over. Repeat until you run out of sock. A normal ankle-length sock can hold 3 watches easily.

Don't make fun of me too much. It works well, especially if you're not running your suitcase over with a truck.

Can't make fun of you on this as I've done the same several times on my travels. I know there are high quality travel cases out there, but when you just take one extra watch it never made sense to have a case for it. So I've always used your method and, so far, it has kept all my watches safe.

  9. We get this often. Much too often IMHO. People find other dealers, not mentioned on these forums, and come here to ask about them. Although, asking a genuine question is never a bad thing I think people should understand that if you don't see any mention of some web site or dealer here then, as an educated adult, come to these conclusions.

    1. since they are not mentioned here as trusted dealers, they should therefore be NON trusted by default.

    2. possibly be new dealers, which could be good or bad. The risk of discovery is on YOU and if you feel obliged to risk finding out for yourself you should, by all means, do so. When you make this discovery you "could" be nice enough to post here to let the rest of us know. This way they can possibly become a part of the "trusted" dealers on this forum. Or inform others to stay away.

I really don't see why people continue to come on these forums to ask about dealers not mentioned here. Since we have a long list of those that have been proven to be trustworthy. Are there that many rebels out there that want to go against the grain? Why take unnecessary chances when an alternative, and proven, option is there???

Sorry if this is offensive to anyone out there, I was just wondering out loud.

    Cheers.
