  1. Yesterday I met up with my watchsmith to exchange a few pieces. He is rep friendly and had fixed a cheap (quartz) Monaco for me already. While we we're chatting I decided to discuss a small issue I'm having with my DSSD v3 with the ETA copy movement, which I was wearing at the time. I took the caseback off showed him the movement. He looked at it, then put his glasses on and looked closer. "This is NOT Chinese" he tells me. I explained that it's supposed to be, and that's what I payed for. He then told me if it were Chinese, it's the best replication he had ever seen...

So looks like our rep makers are putting together a very nice product!

  2. I was kinda feeling the Porsche more to begin with. I do love the IWC Top Gun but I gotta have the clear caseback for this run. Someone at RWI recommended me this Oris: http://www.watcheden.com/oris-tt3-limited-...-21351-p-1.html but now I'm noticing the shiny PVD and thinking the Flat black looks better. I'd love to get a SS watch and DLC it, but it just ain't in the budget right now. Thanks all for your opinion, still open to any other fresh ideas if you got em! Probably placing my order early next week. :D

  3. OK, so my next purchase is about to happen. Here's my criteria: Must be all black or close to it. Must have clear caseback to display movement with engraved rotor showing. Budget is less than $400. Preferably closer to $300. I've thought lots about the Hublot Big Bang Lite's but the sticker on the rotor is a deal breaker- plus they're a little too much $$. Gave some thought to the Concord C1 but it's just not black enough.

    So my finalist's are...

    (drumroll please)

Your thoughts? I am open to other ideas everyone so let's here em! :bounce:

  4. Along the same lines as the other post, I want to let you all know Ubi recently helped me out in a similar way. My DSSD has a rotor that likes to come loose every so often. So Ubi, at no charge, sent me a ETA rotor. I appreciate your help, man. :D Thank you!

Now all I need is a screw driver set small enough to get this old one off... I can't believe the precision tools needed to play around with these things.

  5. Both Josh and Watcheden drop ship. So there's not really the QC from either. However, either one is a supported dealer here and should be fine to order from. Personally, I have ordered from one and heard excellent things about the other. So go for the cheaper one if you ask me, unless you can find a dealer that will QC for not much more... :D

  6. Two fun posts from TZ regarding this watch:

"The gas comes out here! See...it's the ORIGINAL gas escape valve design! Aren't you impressed/? Yes... I used to have the Seadweller with the helium escape valve...but it didn't say that on the dial (rehaut, rehaut, rehaut...sorry) so I got this new one instead so EVERYONE would know that my watch will emit gas from the original patented spot at the appropriate time...right...every time I'm dry diving and using the helium mix...yup...the gas comes out right here...see? Yes...I'm very happy with the watch. Oh...of course it was worth $9500! Are you kidding? This has the Ring Lock System! Nobody else has that...well except every other dive watch on the market...but HEY!...they're not the same!...well, yes they are but...That's a unidirectional bezel that marks my dive time (when I'm in the dive bell using the helium mixture so the gas will escape out of the original valve right here on the side of the case...see the words...maybe they should include arrows... see.. it's right here...on the side...yes...the gas comes out there...)It also works great when I'm timing how long I have before I pick up the kids at soccer practice! Tell me how many other Dads can dry dive and pick their kids up from soccer practice on time...all in the same day...with the same watch...see?...see/ do you see how great this watch is?...do you...huh?...

10 reasons for not buying this watch:

    10) I don't spend much time by the sea, let along deep in the sea.

    9) If I did go deep in the sea, I would think twice about wearing a big shiny shark lure on my wrist whist diving.

    8) I did not go to MIT, so it took me 6 months to figure out the guidelock bracelet.

    7) Once I figured it out, I realized it would only benefit me in situations of extreme allergic reactions when my wrist had swollen up astronomically very rapidly.

    6) I am not allergic to anything.

    5) I am not married, and thus have managed to ovoid "Ring Lock Systems" to this point in my life. I am not starting now. No way.

    4) I only have room for one "Gas Escape Valve" in my life. Trust me, mine is the original.

    3) I think advertising my "Original Gas Escape Valve" while in public might deter women from attempting their "Ring Lock System" on me.

    2) My head would implode at 12800 feet below the ocean. I think (emphasis on think) this might be the time when I stopped caring what was on my wrist.

    1) I already owned a Breitling and decided the look was not for me."

Is that sarcasm? We don't get that here. - Steve Martin

I love top 10 lists. Like top 10 reasons TO OWN this watch.

    10) Unlike most Rolex's, this watch is actually visible to the naked eye.

    9) Attention to detail, as mentioned earlier, on the rep model

    8) Build quality of the rep/ gen

    7) How many Diving watches are actually used for diving? This is not the first!

    6) Advertising Rolex on your wrist, may just help with women attempting their "Ring Lock System"

    5) It's heavy enough to double as a weapon (Handy in a bar fight or a shark fight)

    4) I AM married, and the "Ring Lock System" has been one of the best decisions of my life. (It helps when you meet quality women)

    3) It is not a traditional Rolex, therefore you are not required to be in your retirement years to wear it... (Daytona excluded)

    2) Jeremy Clarkson does not own one

    1) It tells you the time :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  7. When I came here I researched practically every brand aside from Rolex. I had no interest in them whatsoever. Partly because of my age (28), partly because of the brands popularity, but mainly the styling did not do it for me. I looked and read for hours at all kinds of watches... So what am I wearing after all this?

    img1101.jpg

WHY??? Well, the look of this watch really grabbed me. Large, blue lume, the hands... Then the details of it, like the ROLEXROLEXROLEX rehaut (I think that's what's it's called), the little crown serif, and actually the crown itself, all over the watch. So here I am. Will I but another Rolex? Maybe, I like the (vintage) Daytona's and definetly dig the Tudor`s... That being said I have several others in mind before I go back to the brand.

Moral of the story? Don't write off a brand, ANY brand, because they may just surprise you... ;)

  8. What kind of camera do you have? Does it allow manual focus? That is very helpful for closeups, but your lens will have a minimum focusing distance as well, and you may be hitting it. You might also consider a tripod for when you don't have enough light and/or lume shots. I think I see motion blur in some photos. Doesn't have to be fancy. Something like this:

    gorilla pod

    or this:

    ultra pod

    is very handy.

Yeah, I know a tripod is a must... Guess it's on my shopping list now. I got a slim Canon - nothing special. The manual mode is what I used for most of these shots I believe. Minimum focus distance makes sense, that would explain what I was getting with some of these (and other) shots. Thanks for the tips. I've never cared much about photo's until I discovered and STARTED LIVING on this forum. :D

  9. I'm assuming the flaw on the DSSD bezel is directly to the left of "10" ?

Good eye Shundi, your on to something there. It's actually the 10 itself, the 0 has like a paint overspray on the lower right portion. I covered it with a black jiffy marker but it's still evident when you look for it.

  10. Nice watches and good effort on the pictures, I'm always tempted on the monanco, how are you finding it?Thanks for sharingST4

The Monaco is fairly nice. It is a cheaper rep so no where near perfect. Strap is a cool design but the Croc Leather is so-so. It's a good look tho, and a must have for a car guy like me :)

  11. So here are my 2 new reps. With a few practices I think I've got a couple decent photo's out of them. No where near the professionals around here tho! ^_^ I do need some software now to make these look much nicer but thought I'd start in raw form. By the way, I love this DSSD! I know it's just a V3 but aside from that nagging date window, it's quite nice outta the box. I actually have a new bezel coming with my next order, cause this has a unsightly flaw. I wonder if any of you can pick it out? (Not the thin font, that's the way these all come). On to some pics! :)
