  1. stoner and the ducati did very well on the extremely high speed and open tracks outside europe, where the higher horsepower is a much larger advantage.

now the real season has begun. where the tracks are more technical and the rider is more important.

    first result: valentino 1st, stoner 4th :D

even if yamaha does not fully close the power gap during the season (i believe everyone was surprised by the speed of the ducati and is playing 800cc catch up...) it will narrow and rossi's experience and knowledge of the tracks will prevail.

stoner could, and probably will, be a world champion someday, but i don't think his time is quite here yet ;)

  2. i spent 20+ years racing motorcycles in the US. spent lots of time on the same track with roberts, lawson, spencer, kel carruthers, steve baker, yvon duhamel, reg pridmore and others, generally watching them get smaller in the distance :whistling:

i also got to see hailwood, agostini, sheen and others in their prime.

i am an american and usually support american riders, but...

rossi is the best i've ever seen. period. no doubt. he regularly does things that make me go "huh????" and does so lap after lap and race after race.

eventually someone will come along who is better. training is better. riders start on better equipment at a younger age. they have better coaching. they are in better physical shape. the bikes are better. but for right now valentino is that perfect storm of desire and incredible talent that is just a treat to watch :D

seeing nicky win the title last year was cool, but there is no doubt in my mind that rossi is just plain better than he is...

  3. i know some of the modders don't particularly like otto frei. and having ordered dummy stuff from them myself (a bergeron springbar tool, and tips and some good screwdrivers for bracelets) both over the phone and in person i agree they are the soup nazis of the watch world.

    but i do love this quote from their site;

If you are not a watch repairperson you have no rights or sane reason for purchasing a movement. Before rocket science was a science watches were considered man

  4. nickel allergies are very very common and nickel is one of the things that makes stainless steel, stainless :)

actually the 9 series stainless used by rolex has a higher nickel (and chromium) content than the 3 series stainless used by rep makers (and by omega and IWC and breitling) so if your problem is a nickel allergy a gen bracelet might make it worse!

lots of guys with this problem on the gen forums paint the back of stainless watches with clear nail polish. or just only wear ti watches ;)

  5. Well i am just wondering what comes in the pipe after the IWC Cousteau Diver for super rep, does anyone know?

I Just want to see if i should starting putting money away for?

personally i'm hoping for the non-chrono version with a non problematic movement ;)

i would be all over a non chrono with a swiss eta or even the chinese eta copy that The Zigmeister reviewed!!!

  6. Silix is advertizing a 112H with 42mm. I just ordered one as I have the same problem you have (I wanted a smaller one)

I mailed him twice and he confirmed the size.

I'm not sure if this is reality or a mistake. I'll tell you upon receipt.

    i would bet mistake.

afaik pamerai doed NOT make a 42mm luminor. 40mm and 44mm and then 47mm. if the rep factories were making a 42mm luminor case i'm sure we would have seen one? i would wonder if a 6497 mvmt would even fit in a 42mm case??

  7. so is the "Ultimate" a fair bet for a quality Omega replica? and where is a reliable place to purchase one?!!

um, try using the search function at the top of the page. there is more than one excellent review of the ultimate p.o. and there are dozens of posts about the watch here, if you just look.

  8. I recently purchased my first Panerai (112h - 44mm sandwich dial with no second hand) from another member. I really like the look of the watch, but would really prefer a 40mm version. I've looked at a few of the collector's sites, but there doesn't seem to be 40mm version. Does a 40mm version of this watch exist? If not, what is the closest 40mm version (I really don't like the little second hand)?

there is no 40mm 'base' (no seconds hand) pam.

the 40m pam reps are all auto with a date window, or chronographs.

  9. ti is not particularly hard :p

ti watches accumulate scratches very easily. i've had 10-12 ti watches and the only ones that did not scratch easily were japan market citizens with their proprietary 'dura-tect' surface coating. i believe breitling(???) also has a surface coat on some models.

ti is not nearly as hard as steel. that's why you have never seen a knife blade made of ti (ok, someone will mention the mission MPF. but it's edge and edge holding characteristics sucked and it was a specialty piece made to be non-magnetic for EOD personnel). ti will not take a good edge or hold one like steel.

it is a bit more difficult to machine than steel but not bad with the right tooling ;)

  10. i won't claim it is the best ;) but i drink tequila (straight at room temp and sipped from a shot glass) when i don't drink beer and my favorite is patron silver :D

i've tried lots of other brands and more expensive brands and the patron silver just has the flavor i like!

  11. edge

thanks for taking a stand, and for saying what so many of us are feeling.

for months i've been going there less and less. i'm here every day, for a while  i'm on RWI maybe once a week, for a quick check.

my only worry is, when it collapses and the new/regular crowd from there shows up here assuming this place is the same...

i feel sorry for our mods :bicycle:

  12. I am debating this right now. I like the styling on the Ferrari but the whole "my parents went to Florida and all I got was a t-shirt" does bother me. And in the case of Ferrari and Bentley where I live you should see some of the people wearing other paraphernalia with those brand names written on it. ;) Just not my style. Of course, that the reps are so supposed to be that good is just killing me.

not a fan of the bentley, but i really love the yellow dial ferrari in the non-chrono.

and i feel exactly the same way, i drive a saab fer chrissake

  13. I would recommend the Brietling steel fish for which Angus gives a 1000m guarantee but I think its a bit more expensive.

uh, like $300 with the ETA and sapphire :whistling:

plus, while i agree it may be more waterproof than a normal rep i am willing to bet that the 1000m claim is another dealer 'little white lie'

. the master watchmaker who restored a few of my vintage seiko divers tested them with a tester and his would only go to 300m or so and was a very costly piece of equipment. from what i have read there are not that many machines in the world that will test to 1000m or 3000m and they are all owned by breitling and iwc and seiko etc. in fact my 600m and 1000m seiko divers came with a cert for the first battery change and are supposed to be sent back to the factory in japan for the change and re-testing of the water resistance. i'm not sure if i believe a rep factory built or invested in a machine like that

  14. @RT- I looked through past posts when trying to find someone to do mods and Joes name always came back with high marks. I will be the first to post a thread if I felt I/we were being taken advantage of by another member. In fact I have done so with threads regarding Finepics, who still will not reply to my and I am sure others comment/emails. Why do you not start a thread about this matter? I have not had any problems with Joe but I am sure if I did they would be worked out and then if they were not I would bring that problem to the light of this forum.

    So you stand corrected!

you did not look really hard, sorry:

    http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...2833&hl=joe

there were literally dozens of people whom joe had their watches for months, or years. when we (yes i fell for it too) asked for them back, after being promised a 2 week turn around, joe asked for $25 shipping cost. after doing zero work and the members paying shipping to joe. some had even pre-paid for the work. he claimed he had over 100 watches waiting. at $25 each, less $4.05 for priority mail that's a tidy profit for doing nothing.
