Nice comparison- new versus vintage.
BTW, how did you manage to fit a gen dial in an MBW case? I thought the gen dials were slightly larger than the case and had to be trimmed to fit in there.
Yes, Alligoat, you are correct. The modder had to trim the dial to fit it in the MBW case.
I didn't think much about it at the time. Now, every once in a while I have a few pangs of regret. The gen white dials were fairly easy to come buy back in 2006 - priced right too.
I paid less than $100 for the white tritium dial in mint condition. Now these dials are selling for as much as $500/600. Mine was devalued when it was trimmed, and is marketable only
to someone who wants to put a gen dial in an old MBW case.

Size Comparison between a DSSD (from Precious Time - ordered
mid May - Asian ETA) and a modded MBW 1680 from the
original George.
Just the Gio paint mod to the DSSD.
Grown Guards, Gen Dial, Gen Tropic 127, Upgraded Bezel, Gen Pearl,
Gen 93150 Bracelet, Drilled Lug Holes, Gen Springbars,
Gen Crown and Tube, and service by the Zigmeister on the 1680.
The DSSD looks and feels gigantic when you first put it on.
After 15 or 15 minutes, I don't notice the difference.
The sane goes when switching back to the 1680 - feels like a toy
at first - after 15/20 minutes - no difference.
-
The new - old skin looks great - no problems.
Feels like an old friend returned.

Ordered 1 strap from him a year or two ago. Took about 4 months
to ship. VERY SLOW to reply to emails (if at all). This was my
first and last order from him.
The strap (when it finally came) was first rate and the
price was right.

Have owned this Gen for several years. 100% of the people who have asked
to hold it or look at it have laughed and "advised" me that "It's a fake - Look
at the second hand - It's a fake for sure!"

Only two - not much of a group.

If the truth be known, most of the members here would be astounded at the number of people that Rob has helped behind the scenes.
In addition to servicing several of my reps, he resurrected my MBW 1680 after it was buggered by a long departed modder.
He also brought two 100 year old, long dead watches back to life, going far above "the call of duty" on one of them.
I have thanked The Zigmeister privately several times, and the original post in this thread prompted this public
"Thank you so much The Zigmeister!!!"

By-Tor,
Your photography skills have evolved from GOOD to
AMAZING.

Picked this one up a year or two ago from a "broke,"
friend for $1500 to save it from the pawn shop.
Mint condition - will keep it 'till "i'm looking up at the grass."

The Zigmeister,
I'm pleased that you posted pics of my old Elgin. It keeps almost perfect time.
One of these days I'll locate a retaining ring that fits, or can be machined to fit the
old boy, and install a crystal.
Pollux1, The Elgin is 100/105 years old.
Thanks again The Zigmeister for returning it to running condition.

Two or three years ago I built a franken 1680 white 1680 for a cost of:
1680 MBW watch - $400
Gen Tropic 127 crystal $25
Gen white dial $60
Gen bezel insert $50
Gen Springbars $10
Gen crown/tube $60

My 16760 transitional GMT Master ll "The Fat Lady"
-
I've had this one for 6/8 months - purchased from one of the "cartel" dealers. It's been a no problem watch;
keeps accurate time (+10sec. per day). Although the strap that ships with the watch looks good in the pics,
it's actually thin and not up to the quality of the watch. I replaced it with one from TC Straps. I have been pleased with the watch.
-
Extraordinary - This looks almost 3D - makes me want to rush out
and purchase one, and I don't even like the watch.
I agree with another poster on this thread - This is your best work yet.

Hi dear all, I'm planning to get a lady's replica watch for my partner. The problem is that I'm not into ladies replica watch. Do you all have any suggestions on which is a good and nice model? Ok here is a little more info she likes slightly bigger watches so could be those around 38mm ones. I would appreciate and kind feedback. Thanks!
If you're not in a hurry, wait until narikaa (over on RWI) returns from Holiday and check him out.
He always has a large selection for your lady, and stuff that you don't see most other places.
Ms. BigDoddy has received 4 from him and has been totally satisfied.

is this a special order ????
wear it well.
Yes,
I swapped several eMails with Elliot, and about 2 weeks later,
this beauty showed up at my door!!!

I just received this black Croc Strap with yellow stitching from Elliot
to go with a new Ferrari from Sash. The Strap is 125/80 24/24
and a full 6mm thick! Comments?
Thanks E for the terrific Strap

The Crown on my Broad Arrow broke off flush. The Zigmeister tells me that the only repair option is a gen crown & tube.
I thought "no problem - I'll just order one from Otto Frei!" Yeah Right!! He has hundreds listed in his site. Problem - the
only way to order the correct crown & tube is by case #. The Gen model closest to this Rep is 3851.20.12.
Does anyone have any idea of the correct case number or how to find it?
Or, does anyone have, or know who might have a crown & tube to fit whis watch?
Here is a pic of the watch before the crown broke off.
Thank you so much in advance to anyone that can help!!

That is exactly the scenario with this one, but it's not up to me to share those details, the owner can if he choses to post the history...
I too would like to find one to restore, but there are none to be found in my family...
RG
"History"
My parents passed away last month and my brother and I were sadly going through their things, and
and packed away in mom's cedar chest, were 2 boxes. One was labeled Grandfather and the other, Grandma.
In Grandfather's box were 40 to 50 pieces of his past including 4 old pocket watches. This one, which The Zigmeister
tells me is a size 18, was the largest.
I popped open the front of the case, exposing a remarkably preserved dial and hand set. I held my breath
and gave the stem several turns, gave it a tap or two, and waited - Nothing - not even one tic-toc.
I emailed The Zigmeister and asked if he would consider taking a look at it. When he said "yes" I beat a path to the
Post Office and it was on his way to Canada.
When he called and told me that this wonderful old keepsake that had been packed away in the dark for
the last 60 years, was now ticking happily away again, my heart almost stopped. He put it up to the phone
and I listened to a remarkable "tic-toc" sound for thirty seconds or so - A real rush!!!
I hope that by now, it's on its way back home. I thought that waiting on a Rep purchase to arrive was maddening.
This is even worse. I've never watched for the Postal carrier so much in my life!!!
Thanks again The Zigmeister

The Zigmeister,
Thank you so much for restoring this old boy to running condition. Cant wait to get it
back home. I just purchased a chain so that I can wear it in a vest pocket on the two
or three times each year that I'm forced to wear a suit & tie. I also ordered a display
dome and will use it as a "desk clock". Winding it on a daily basis will give me great
pleasure.
I was amazed when you called and told me that you had not only repaired it, but it
was also keeping accurate time.
I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. Granddaddy would be proud.

VERY well done. Thanks! A review with that much detail
takes a great deal of time.
I have never looked seriously at this watch, but, your review
may just send me over to Robert's place to buy one.
