Some old soap opera stuff (RWG1 and Blade-related)

hahaha - cool link. Thanks for sharing! :

Greg has it right. The original RWG founded by Blade blew up when he disappeared. The stories ranged from running away with people's money from the RWG watch and buying a new car to being drafted into the Serbian Army. The remaining admin personnel made a valiant effort to keep it going but ultimately no one had access to the domain/servers except Blade. So it died. During all this Thomas (the Admin here) had another site TRC. When RWG crashed and burned Thomas took all of us lost souls on board and actually worked with some of the original folks to create this forum. The Dark Side came next (now RWI) and then Geeks. IMHO it is thanks to Thomas that the 10,000 members of the original RWG had someplace to go and re-congregate. And by the way it was not a money maker. A number of the older folks stepped up at various times to help fund it. Today we have a number of wonderful forums but I will always remember that it was Thomas who stepped up and took us in in the first place and subsequently sponsored the creation of this forum.
Spot on, kruzer.
As the admin of the 'other' RWG, I know some people will see us as competitors, but I really don't look at it that way - we each serve our purpose (we're not a money maker either, as members will know). All our staff are also members here and many of your staff are members at our place. Each of the forums has its own flavour so appeal to a slightly different group of people, but the fact remains that all the boards have similar aims and we all work pretty closely together - sharing info on problems/troublemakers and generally helping each other out where we can - RWI and RWG1 in particular work very closely together.
During the brief period when RWG1 was down and we were in the process of 'moving house', you guys made us welcome here, for which we will always be grateful.

The old RWG was with our current and "only" Admin so how could we technically come after
No, the old RWG was run by a guy called Blade. I believe 'your' admin was running TRC at the time.
This board (rwgforum.com/rwg.cc) came after - and was set up in part due to the fact that Blade largely walked away from the original RWG (long story, but there was a lot of drama). Because there was no admin and none of the mods had full admin access to the board, life was made very difficult for the remaining board staff and they made (imho the correct) decision to start again here. You are not a copy - you were new board, an attempt to provide a home for a community in a place that could be managed more efficiently than a post-Blade RWG1. However, whilst many of the original RWG members and staff moved here (along with most of TRC), some remained behind (this board was generally known as RWGJr or RWG2 by those that remained at RWG1).
Then, in 2008, RWG1 had some major database problems and went offline. Blade by now was completely AWOL so after several failed attempts to contact him, Trailboss and I decided to pick up what we could salvage and moved it to a new server and address (replica-watch-guide.net) along with most of the remaining active members. Although we lost all the old posts, we basically carried on as before. We have recently recovered our original domain name, so are now back to our original address: http://www.replica-watches-guide.com
We are BOTH RWG. Each in our own way
Oh, and by the way, I understand that today is RWG's (YOUR RWG) birthday, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

I ran a heavily-modded Datsun 280ZX Targa for a while some years ago - replaced it with a Nissan 300Z TT. Loved both cars, but in recent years I've started to act my age and am going for comfort these days. Current ride is an Audi A8 4.2 Quattro - quick, quiet, handles well and is incredibly comfortable for long journeys...

Welcome! Always good to see another Brit joining in with the fun
You may find yourself surprised at how good some reps get, there are a few that are VERY hard to tell from the real thing...
Enjoy!

Always good to meet another Panerai nut
Welcome!

RWI is temporarily down for a server move but should be back up fairly soon, then there's this place, Repgeek and also RWG1.1

Greg, are there midgets on this mysterious fourth forum?
It's been known - we draw the line at squid porn though

I'm not saying we are the best out of the forums.. but the best for me.. yes.. everyone should believe that their choice is the best for "them".. and there are those who call all 3 home..
Uhm - all 4? There are 4 forums, you know
I shall now return you to your scheduled programming

You want the 177g (which is a sandwich dial) - the h series bridges are less ornate. You also want to buy a good one - most of the cheaper models with e-series bridges are not engraved - the decoration is done with a stick-on foil and they look like crap. Ultimately it will depend on what you want to spend. If you're going to buy a cheaper (sub $200) watch, then go for the 177h - the simpler bridges look better at that level.
Not sure what's available at the moment - your best bet is to take a look at the recommended dealers and see what they have available.

Depends on the wrist. I sold mine as it was too bulky and unbalanced on the wrist to wear comfortably, but it didn't look that bad....

Hi,
I recently bought some of these "asian 6497 gmt movements" from JacksonTse:

mostly due to price. Also, they need to fit 6497 cases so I thought I

Welcome! Always great to meet another member from the UK

I don't have one (yet) but I did get to try on another members at a GTG a few months back.
I was very surprised at the quality given the relatively low price.
Compared say to the 104/229/164 which are $400+ there is not that much difference in quality.
The tunnel strap is great as well. I will put my hand up and say its the best rep strap. I bought a gen tunnel strap, I should of just got the rep and had thw watch and saved $$
Go for it, its not perfect but it a very good value rep. Try to get the one with the improved cut out auto wheel.
ST4
Yep, it's an astoundingly well-made watch for the dough. Even the lume is decent and the CG is one of the best I've seen. My only real criticisms are down to the faux GMT function, the recessed datewheel (common problem with reps) and the auto rather than handwind movement.
I agree that the strap is very high quality - I've added a deployant buckle to mine and it really looks the part. Comfortable, too.

Thanks for the info Greg.
Very useful.
Do you mind providing me with a link pls ?? (not in RWI and cannot get in to Repgeek).
Thanks
There's no website, I'm afraid - short of his subforum over on my home board (address in my profile) all I can suggest is contacting him via sales@time4direct.com

Anybody knows if the PAM 8 and 10 Days - GMT are available with black dates ?
On cartel dealer's sites, I can only find them with white dates.
Also, any experience with these watches ?? (quality of making , faults etc...)
Anybody got them ?
Thank you guys.
Yes, PrestigeWatchCo (not a dealer here, but a forum dealer on my 'home' board RWG1.1 and known at RG and RWI too) can supply both the 233 and the 270 in v2 guise with black date and other upgrades for $149. Very nice watches for the dough although still not 100% accurate (they're auto - the gen is handwind). I have a 233 myself:

Something a little different, but I love it: PWC Ultimate Fiddy on blue shark:

I link to an off-site host for posting pics, www.imagecave.com. None of my photos nor avatar seem to be linked now. I've noticed a few other members' photos or avatars are Xed out.
Also, while surfing RWG a few minutes ago (no other windows/sites open) my firewall blocked two Trojan viruses?
Anyone want to hazzard a guess to these issues? www.imagecave.com is up and running, however they were down yesterday...........
Dems: ImageCave's hosts have a major network outage at the moment - basically the switch connecting them to the rest of the world broke a few days ago. No idea where the trojan is coming from, but it might just be someone taking advantage of the fact that ICs DNS servers are down. Amazed they haven't got it working again by now, though..

i like it i also love panerai, since the first time i weard them in a store
but do you personaly have only pams? what do you wear for suits, or when you go to sport?
greets deniz
hehe - nope, I have a variety - Panerai make up around half of my collection. I just find that they work in every situation - I can wear 'em with a suit, jeans + tee shirt or anything in between.
My comment (although not entirely serious) was really based on the fact that if I had to dispose of most of my collection, it would be the PAMs I would keep - the 111h, 183g and 127 (Fiddy) particularly are iconic watches and by far my favourites. If I was to answer your question seriously, though, there are other iconic watches too - the Rolex DateJust (or Day/Date), Vacheron Constantin Overseas, IWC Ingy, amongst others. I like the Rolex DJ, for instance, but it's too small for me - so I have one, but rarely wear it.
My advice is to start slowly and buy a few differing styles of watches - sooner or later you'll come across something that really grabs your attention and you'll know what you really want to collect
-
Whenever planning to buy another watch, you have to consider the following question:
"Is it a Panerai?"
If the answer is yes, you're good to go....
Anyone noticed the RWG watch project?

The new watch is no relation to the C1 (I have one of those too) and looks very different - see acharria's photo above. This isn't a forum-sponsored project btw, it's a project that Luthier has organised together with sol and WatchInternational, so the 'collaboration' model name really wasn't appropriate.
