The new watch is no relation to the C1 (I have one of those too) and looks very different - see acharria's photo above. This isn't a forum-sponsored project btw, it's a project that Luthier has organised together with sol and WatchInternational, so the 'collaboration' model name really wasn't appropriate.

As the admin of the 'other' RWG, I know some people will see us as competitors, but I really don't look at it that way - we each serve our purpose (we're not a money maker either, as members will know). All our staff are also members here and many of your staff are members at our place. Each of the forums has its own flavour so appeal to a slightly different group of people, but the fact remains that all the boards have similar aims and we all work pretty closely together - sharing info on problems/troublemakers and generally helping each other out where we can - RWI and RWG1 in particular work very closely together. During the brief period when RWG1 was down and we were in the process of 'moving house', you guys made us welcome here, for which we will always be grateful.

No, the old RWG was run by a guy called Blade. I believe 'your' admin was running TRC at the time. This board (rwgforum.com/rwg.cc) came after - and was set up in part due to the fact that Blade largely walked away from the original RWG (long story, but there was a lot of drama). Because there was no admin and none of the mods had full admin access to the board, life was made very difficult for the remaining board staff and they made (imho the correct) decision to start again here. You are not a copy - you were new board, an attempt to provide a home for a community in a place that could be managed more efficiently than a post-Blade RWG1. However, whilst many of the original RWG members and staff moved here (along with most of TRC), some remained behind (this board was generally known as RWGJr or RWG2 by those that remained at RWG1). Then, in 2008, RWG1 had some major database problems and went offline. Blade by now was completely AWOL so after several failed attempts to contact him, Trailboss and I decided to pick up what we could salvage and moved it to a new server and address (replica-watch-guide.net) along with most of the remaining active members. Although we lost all the old posts, we basically carried on as before. We have recently recovered our original domain name, so are now back to our original address: http://www.replica-watches-guide.com We are BOTH RWG. You want the 177g (which is a sandwich dial) - the h series bridges are less ornate. You also want to buy a good one - most of the cheaper models with e-series bridges are not engraved - the decoration is done with a stick-on foil and they look like crap. Ultimately it will depend on what you want to spend. If you're going to buy a cheaper (sub $200) watch, then go for the 177h - the simpler bridges look better at that level. Not sure what's available at the moment - your best bet is to take a look at the recommended dealers and see what they have available.

Depends on the wrist. I sold mine as it was too bulky and unbalanced on the wrist to wear comfortably, but it didn't look that bad....

Yep, it's an astoundingly well-made watch for the dough. Even the lume is decent and the CG is one of the best I've seen. My only real criticisms are down to the faux GMT function, the recessed datewheel (common problem with reps) and the auto rather than handwind movement. I agree that the strap is very high quality - I've added a deployant buckle to mine and it really looks the part. Comfortable, too.

Yes, PrestigeWatchCo (not a dealer here, but a forum dealer on my 'home' board RWG1.1 and known at RG and RWI too) can supply both the 233 and the 270 in v2 guise with black date and other upgrades for $149. Very nice watches for the dough although still not 100% accurate (they're auto - the gen is handwind). I have a 233 myself:

hehe - nope, I have a variety - Panerai make up around half of my collection. I just find that they work in every situation - I can wear 'em with a suit, jeans + tee shirt or anything in between. My comment (although not entirely serious) was really based on the fact that if I had to dispose of most of my collection, it would be the PAMs I would keep - the 111h, 183g and 127 (Fiddy) particularly are iconic watches and by far my favourites. If I was to answer your question seriously, though, there are other iconic watches too - the Rolex DateJust (or Day/Date), Vacheron Constantin Overseas, IWC Ingy, amongst others. I like the Rolex DJ, for instance, but it's too small for me - so I have one, but rarely wear it. My advice is to start slowly and buy a few differing styles of watches - sooner or later you'll come across something that really grabs your attention and you'll know what you really want to collect

Whenever planning to buy another watch, you have to consider the following question: "Is it a Panerai?" If the answer is yes, you're good to go....
