  1. Thank you for the extra information for both of you! The bottom line is that the watch listed is not one of those off the shelf reps and it's most likely V72 one. Lhooq, yes we have talked about his and the problem with MQ dial is (1) too expensive and (2) the metal block on indices: http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/162892-available-options-of-dials-for-v72/?hl=%2B6238#entry1269726 ... while we were talking about this another one came up:
  2. All right. Then the movement must be Valjoux 72 since Phong's dials are all for V72 (or am I wrong with this?). Yes, it's too good to be a cartel dial, I thought. The subdial positions relative to the indices are almost perfect. Nice dial regardless of the maker.
  3. Wow, this dial is pretty good. Are you sure it's A7750 that is under this dial? Yes, the A7750 used in those rep vintage chronographs is not too dependable. Perhaps, they are HZ mvts because I haven't had any problem with seagull copies (6497, 28xx or the Venus based ST19). In fact there are Seagull versions of 7750 and 7753 and these should be better provided that this company maintains the same QC standard.
  4. I found another version from a rep factory that is driven by A7750 with working 6 o'clock hand: BTW, I am looking for a 6238 dial (black or silver just like the one above) for 7750 (well it should be 7753). Please let me known if you have one.
  5. Thank you for the input. Yes, the seller asks 2.5k for this and I don't think people buy this unless the movement pics are shown. This is definitely not the ST19 version that you are referring to, if you carefully look into the T SWISS T print below the bottom subdial. The notch under the pusher on this claimed to be V72 watch is different from those of cartel or DW cases. ST19 version:
  6. This was offered on another forum. The seller claims: the crown is gen and a V72 is inside (but, no pics of the movement). Is there any way we can tell the type of movement inside from say for example the sub-dial spacing? Can you guess who made the case and dial? The case looks different from any of DW's.
  7. Thanks for the sharp observations for both the kings here. OK, the hour indices are clearly off I can see now. lhooq, "6" on this MQ dial seems to be open:
  8. Thank you for the advice, lhooq! Well, I now got replies from the two forum members who are most knowledgeable about vintage daytonas. You are right. DW's 6238 dial for V72 may be my illusion. Then, we only have the $800 MQ or the inaccurate JAW option. This makes the story rather simple. MQ dial looks pretty nice:
  9. Hi freddy333, thanks for the tip. Your projects are all super impressive and opinions from members like you would be very helpful. I agree with what you are saying but, how one can eduacate him/her-self when it comes to the real color/texture without seeing the dial? Naturally, I will judge by myself whether or not the MQ dial is for me but, without information on some experience by others, I honestly don't know how one can educate him/her-self. You mean I shoud look for forums to find some projects where this very dial was used and extract comments from other members?
  10. Dear vintage Daytona experts, I am looking for a good dial for my 6238 project and would like to seek for your opinions on available dials. I found the MQ 6238 dial the most stunning, followed by JAW and DW. Ingot and NDT don't seem to offer pre-daytona dials. The MQ dial looks nice but, it's a hefty $800 rep dial. Still, I have never seen it in person and the color and texture are hard to tell from pics. Has any-one used those high-end refinished dials? Regards, K
  11. Please excuse me for being a bit off here. One more quetsion. I know that cartel dealers offer Daytona models (116520) with running sec@9. This fantasy Daytona version (as the running sec on 116520 is @6) is driven by A7750 without the wonkey transfer plate. Does this mean this A7750 is in fact an Asian version of 7753? The Seagull 7750 is coded as 3LZF2. I wonder what the code for this A7753. By the way, as you all know there is a contemporary model with running sec at 9, commonly refeered to as "Zenith Daytona" or 16520. The A7753 is perfect for repping this 16520 Daytona. Yet, no rep maker does make this AFAIK. While the Zenith Daytona is a contemporary model, it resemples some early Daytonas (vintage style endlink, flatter bezel and brushed case). This is one of my favorite daytonas but, I just could not find a rep! Please let me know if this has already been repped:
  12. People find the Seagull 19 quite reliable. It seems to come with a proper column wheel and looks nice too. but, the biggest problem is the missing 6 o'clock subdial function. If you are happy with this then ST-19 is the way to go.
  13. This is exactly what I was thinking. I wasn't sure about the thickness of the infamous transfer plate but, you would try keeping the thikness the same as the day/date wheel plate if you are the watchsmith working for rep makers. Thnks for the very helpful info.
  14. I am a n00b but, is there any reason that you don't want to use ETA7753 instead of 7750? 7753 is the same movement as the Val 7750 except the 7753 has the register hands at 3, 6 & 9. Ofrei sells gen 7753 http://www.ofrei.com/page240.html
  15. I got a 111J and found the movement bridge very well finished while the case is idea for pre-V. The 111j is overshadowed by 005K and 177L but, its value relative to the cost is fantastic.
  16. "1570 taken out from a Gen. 1680" amazing. The movement is really beautiful.
  17. I have heard that the current MBW subs available from Thailand are no longer 1:1. Is this true?
  18. Very nice project. Cannot wait to see!
  19. Is this a common problem? Unlike 2893, this is not a natural born GMT mvt and I always wonder how reliable they are.
  20. I have lost 4 registered mails in the last 18 months. It's funny that I have never lost mails sent via normal air or EMS.
  21. I got a nice Cortebert movement for quite cheap because it was not running but, it was quite easy fix.
  22. When I asked DSN if his Swiss version is really Swiss, he told me '100% Swiss'. I knew this was inaccurate as all the bridges must have been made somewhere in southern China. But, anyway I got his Swiss version and found it's real as it's a 18000 BPH version (you can count the beat by the ticking sound). I could be wrong but, most of the Asian Unitas movements beat at a higher 21600 PH. One may still think that the Asian version can be detuned to a lower beat but, I don't think DSN's business is that slack.
