  1. Hey all. My skyland blacksteel v2 has been my beater workhorse (including scuba diving lol) but it finally gave up and i'm looking to upgrade. The DLC coating is wearing slightly on the sharp edges of the lugs and bezel but still doesn't look bad. Quite surprising!

Has anyone done a review on the new SA blacksteel? It's kinda tempting. Water resistance would be a must for me though.

Also, does anyone know the model number of the asian 7750? there's an importing company near me (ontario canada) that has an asian watch movement catalog but I have no idea what model I should order because it doesn't list them as "asian 7750 clones put in reps" lmao

oh btw the movement would be like $70 canadian or so if i can chose the right one.

    Thanks,

  2. I did watch the video. I was thinking that I would rather have 4 digits than flashing hours and minutes. I guess they don't make smaller nixie/pixie tubes. BTW 180V DC needed to power them? Holy smokes.

“If I wanted to buy a watch that guaranteed I would never get laid, I certainly wouldn't have to spend that much on it.”

  3. Zig did the same job for my former Skyland Blacksteel. I also had the crystal AR-ed by Chieftang and added a gen buckle.

To answer your question, I would like to ask you a question. You have only one rep and it seems that you own several genuine high end watches. And you also decided to buy V2, so I am assuming that it is very important that you could pass a rep off as a gen. Right?

So... would you also consider to lume the hands if it was a genuine Breitling Blacksteel?

If so.. go for it. If not, leave it!

    :whistling:

Awesome response man. I actually tell everyone it's a rep, and direct them to these forums if they are interested. Your post made me realize that I think I would consider luming the gen if I had one. I don't, and probably never will. The Blacksteel is my beater watch and I doubt I would wear the real one for fear of scratching the finish. The other watches can be refinished - not so with the Blacksteel.

So i guess the real question is: do I lume them all or just the seconds, white or orange?

  4. I have one rep.

I wear that one rep more than my gen Submariner, or my gen Breitling B1, or any of my other gen watches. Ok, you get the point. I really like my Skyland Blacksteel v2.

The problem is... I'm also a lume junky.

I've decided to send the Blacksteel to The Zigmeister for some Tritec love but I have a question that is a little unorthodox and I'm undecided. I would like to be able to see the chrono elapsed time at night but putting lume on those red hands would be huge departure from gen. Am I crazy or should I ask The Zigmeister to do it? I was thinking of having the top 1/4 of each of the hands lumed. Maybe orange?

    Thanks!

BTW. The watch was ordered and received from Sead in the dying days of 2010. I greased the seals, and regulated it to ~+3 seconds per day (it has the micro regulator which made it easier). I use the chrono many times per day. It has been to Cuba, diving to a depth not more than 30ft, and abused on coral and on the beach. There is not a scratch on it. Not even the buckle - pretty impressive IMHO. The only issue I have is that the lume sucks, and the hour subdial hand sometimes moves off zero, although a reset fixes it.

  5. Hey you don't have to play or agree.

I occasionally give beggars money - not because it's going to have a life-long impact, but because it might make a person happy for a little while. How would you feel if someone gave you a nice watch that was worth up to a full years wage?

I guess it's different if you are getting the gift, not giving it.

  6. I realize it's late to ask, but I just thought of it now.

I'm going to Cuba on the 22nd, and it's pretty common to tip down there with items that the people can't get instead of money. I had the idea that I might give out some reps.

So... If you have any cheap, unused but still working reps that you would like to donate, please let me know and I'll stuff them in my camera bag and hand them out in Cuba :)

I'm in the Greater Toronto Area, and work at Bay and Wellington.

  7. I have no problem with the price of most gens. 70% of the cost or more is markup after it is sold by the factory, but the same is true of most consumer items. If you buy used, the price is a lot better.

Gen parts are expensive so that people will have a difficult time creating fakes or frankens to try to sell them as gens. I have no problem with that either.
