  1. Q1: What type of movement is this

    micro rotor movement

Q2: Type and make of movement

    Harley-Ronda Caliber 2538

Q3: Name of the watch shown

Aristo Award 2003. either black dial or white dial

Q4: Name some brands that use this type of movement today or at least in the last 15 years or so (I am thinking of high luxury brands with in house made movements)

    Patek, lange & sohne, chopard..

  2. if u compare brushed ti with brushed ss..from my experience the brushed ti resists scuffs normal better than brushed ss, the titanium oxide coat protects it and any scuffs will be rendered invisible by the quick oxidation of ti.

experts pls correct me if i'm wrong...

p/s-the finish on my ti iwc gst chrono is indestructable...i can barely scratch it w my jeweler screwdriver..it's not brushed, more like sandblasted..

  3. started looooooong time ago when i was 10(11 yrs ago) when my bro bought a rep(can't remember what brand..) and i discovered i'm into watches, at that time was g-shocks were the craze(hey, don't expect a 10 yr old to know abt rolexes..)..made myself a rep by sticking erasers to a normal casio watch..decided that it looked crap, started saving up and bought 4 genuine 'shocks, still have 3 of em back at home...

then i got into martial arts, so didn't wear a watch from 13yrs old till 18(3 yrs ago), when my girl forced me to wear one cause it's manly..i couldn't settle for a cheap brand and i'm not gonna wear my old 'shocks. so i decided to get myself a rep...a quartz tag heuer link..and it went on to:

then i started getting interested in rolexes..so got myself a few asian crap:

    52015-36084.jpg

and ~then into panerai..these were pre RWG and i was using my pocket money to buy em..they are utter crap!

    52015-36085.jpg

and all those within a year!

then at 19(2 yrs ago) i was getting paid for doing what singaporeans gotta do..somehow got to know of a taiwanese supplier with expensive eta rolexes..and bought some good stuff from him, all eta:

the 2tone is actually a second hand one i bought from him, he had it for 4 years(6 years now..)i suspect that the 2tone is a mbw cause of the deep rehaut, water resistance tested to 8atm, excellent 2.5x date mag, 14k gold wrap(i've sent it for polishing and my watchmaker told me that it's gold wrap..), thick crystal, bezel(constructed like a gen) and hollow midlink bracelet..all these epecs 6 years ago?! will have to take more photos of it when i go back home..

by that time i had over 25 reps and getting sick of em all..i switched to collecting vintage seikos for awhile..learnt a lil about watch making and refinishing. started frankening the asian reps for kicks..the practice allowed me to do my own mods later on..

then i got myself into the pam virus, that was before knowing RWG but wasn't scammed cause i was buying from river(not the supplier i knew before) unknowingly. :):) then early last yr i got to know of RWG1...and pandora's box was opened....

now i'm 21 and down with the PAM virus!!!

  4. oops, didn't see this thread when it started..

the pam036..mixed feelings, great crown and CG..but the dial is misaligned and a pam36 i bought off a member was actually DOA cause the hole for the seconds hand was touching the tube of the seconds hand..had to find another dial for it..

    did anyone say pam40?

not very accurate but will do it for me(for the time being..)

  5. hi,

i second what kanerich said, u're wearing a watch, not a movement. get a simple swiss eta workhorse and u can care less abt the movement breaking, u'll just need to look after the cosmetics/hardware of ur watch. u can send the watch to a trusted watchmaker and get them to guage the quality of the case, dial, construction, QC etc and tell u if it's gonna last long. about pams. the stock lume on my oldest one has faded and is showing signs of flaking...

one more thing to add..it all depends on ur lifestyle and in what occasions u use the watch for as well...it's true even for genuines.

that being said, having a watch is all about enjoying it. no pt getting one which is built like a tank, can last u for decades but just doesn't speak to u..it's still a waste of $$ cause u're not enjoying it.

alrighty, go get urself a nice one and enjoy it while it lasts!

  6. actually it's a really interesting piece, the case is pretty nice with 2 holes on the lugs for straps or bracelets, the dial looks alright, the movement is decorated with circular graining, cdg and blued(tho painted) screws..it's just the case back and the crown..and the chrono seconds hand and 3 subdial hands should be white instead of chrome..

    how much does it cost?

  7. wearing this:

    51083-36202.jpg

swiss PAM177H with swan's neck regulator from River, crown and CG modded by me, hands from davidsen, relume and cannon pinion by FP..on a honey tan gator from beacon, darkened to a vintage brown using mink oil and restitched at the lung ends. buckle custom brushed to simulate Ti.

    hope u guys like it...
