  1. When at work I was tracking the stats of Angel & Jay's package that was sent over the weekend. And it arrived safe and sound today, so had to rush home to unwrap. Great how Angel wrapped in a Garfield bunny to avoid any customs issues. My daughter of 3 loved it ;-)

But now the watch... Apparently I am a bit stupid to underestimate the meaning of XL... Boy, this watch looks bigger than my PAM090 44mm Luminor! I was expecting a big watch, but about the size of 36.6x7.9mm and not the spectacular 43mm x 52mm x 14mm! I guess this is a bit to much for my small wrists. What do you think?

I really love the silvery finish of the white dial version, and the rubber strap is excellent, although a bit thick and the black date is just as it is supposed to be.

The 21J movement has always proved reliable, but this time it makes a heavy noise when the rotor rotates. Apparently it's completely out of oil. Who knows how to have this fixed without sending of a 75USD watch for a 200USD service? All help greatly appreciated!

  2. the watch boys have really nice alligator straps at a good price (click here for their ebay listing -- i think the chocolate alligator w/ white stitch would look good)....

Thanks for all the great advice and pic's. This sure helps evaluating my options. Although I have to admit that the silver black seal is much more flexible and looks awesome on a black gator!

I am wondering though what's the difference in quality of watchboys compared to BOB's...? For my other PAM's I upgrade to Vertigo and got a best quality strap. Who can helpout?

Fortunately watchboys are asking 99USD nowadays instead of 150, but it's still way more than BOB's 35USD....

  3. I like it even better with the croc-strap; Great contrast with the black-n-white dial:

Also size is excellent for wearing as a dress watch with a decent pin-stripe suit!

Only need is to fit in a decent (ETA) movement and make sure the datewheel matches the dial. Than offcourse the hands might be more less-ordinary than usual. Replicating the soft iron inner case would be a bit overkill for a rep I guess.

  4. After one year of replica mania I ran out of cash now.... these are my main results in not so random order:

    261112-5433.jpg

    1. IWC GST Chrono (alltime favorite, best on a white shirt with cuflinks)

    261112-5434.jpg

    2. Rolex Sub black (owns 2x, stories later)

    261112-5435.jpg

    3. PAM 231 Radiomir rose gold (best match with a red tie; needs a new BOB-strap though)

    261112-5436.jpg

    4. PAM 090 Luminor Powerreserve (weekend favorite as it does not fit with any regular cuf, upgrade with BOB-strap)

    261112-5437.jpg

    5. TAG Monza Chrono (quartz (yuk) chrono; get's little wrist time)

    6. Chopard Mille Miglia low-end (asian auto, date subdials in stead of working chrono, get's no wrist time at all)

    7. Funwatch (transparant sub replica, nice to go swimming)

Furthermore the family is not forgotten as my wife now owns:

    1. Cartier Pasha (both men's size and medium size)

    2. Cartier Tank (men's size as she likes it....)

    3. Gucci (she gave it to her mother)

    4. Tommy Hillfiger Tank clone

All watches have been sourced through Angel & Jay from both Silix-Prime.com and Watchsilix.com.

Silix is a great dealer with excellent service, even a year after a sale. QA/QC could improve though as I was once shipped a low-quality sub after ordering a prime quality once. This was fixed with no questions asked though. So now I own both the low-end for weekend gardening work and the one I work to my major clients who are still complaining about my consultancy rates, but I always blame it on my addiction for watches. If only they would know ;-)

  5. looks like I need one of those as well.... after wearing the sub that Silix send me last week for only 5 days, the pearl got lost somehow....

Who can tell me what's best:

    - replace the intire bezel insert including pearl?

    - or only try the find a new pearl again?

    kind regards, Erwin

  6. After buying Panerai's 231 and 090, IWC GST Chrono, TAG Heuer Monza and Mille Miglia Chrono I found it time to go for the all-time classic.... So time for a Rolex Sub!

I've been searching, gazing and learning for hundreds of warstories on best sub's and how to mod to get the best one.

Personally I was thinking of buying Angel & Jay's Sub on www.silix-prime.com. To be specific, it's this one:

It's only 115USD and also has ETA inside as well as sapphire instead of mineral.

    Dimension: 40mm x 48mm x 12mm

    Movement: Autmatic ETA-2836

    Dial: Black

    Bezel: Black

    Case: Stainless steel

Strap: Stainless steel, with hollow mid links and solid end links

    Glass: Sapphire crystal

    Water-proof/Water-resistant: Yes

Does this watch have the same issues other share as I cannot tell the difference yet? What about:

    • font
    • rehaut
    • crown
    • crown-guards
    • date-wheel
    • pearl
    • .....?

    All info is greatly appreciated!

  7. Thanks for all this feedback. Very usefull for me as well now that I'm tempted to buy a Sub myself as well... Up till now it has been mainly Panerai's and IWC's but finally I am also looking for the 'most-wanted' rep around.

  8. I just assume that if I buy an Asian 7750 there is a real possibility that I will be swapping it out for Swiss.

Who can tell me how to do this? Can my local watchsmith help out or do I need to send the watch to The Zigmeister?

And what are expected costs (movement, replacement, etc)
