  1. quick update:

    - I repainted the markers on the 5513; they were too dark to my taste so I made them slightly less dark and more cream (cafe late sort of :))

    - I also added the (yuki) pearl

    - I dipped the insert twice into bleach (for a very short amount of time), just enough to remove the shiny laquer and after that I polished it twice with a cape cloth; I didn't want to bleach the insert, I just wanted to make it more matt black and after the polish the inside areas of the insert remain beautifully matt were the border is a bit more shiny; just marvelous :) I think it looks very age-appropriate; well taken care of but still vintage piece with character :)

    me happy :)

    on to the crappy pics :lol::

  2. Maybe my eyes are tricking me, but is the DR dial brownish? I can't make it out from the pics.

    A nice detail, he used the Mk II coronet on the dial, and Mk IIs are usually the ones that go tropical. :tu:

    It's indeed a darkbrown color :) The Mk II is in my opinion the best DRSD they offer; it's a spectacular dial and I'm really pleased with it (and Minh's service was great as well!)

  3. Hi all,

    Time to share with you my latest projects; a 1665 DRSD tropical and a 5513 maxi-dial, the list with specs:

    The 1665 DRSD I got originally from Valty:

    After that I made the following mods;

    - Re-shaped the cg’s

    - Got a 1665 DRSD Tropical dial from Minh (had the lume changed to white)

    - Colored the lume markers to a nice light cream

    - Re-painted the hands to match the new dial

    - Changed the datewheel to one with flat 3’s

    - Drilled out a OEM Luminova pearl and refilled it with a tritium non glowing color

    - Changed the insert for a gen fat font faded insert

    In the proces I also learned how to fix the keyless issue :lol:

    put everything back together and below are the results :)

    The 5513 was originally bought from nakortheblue, a great member over at W-C, the specs were the following:

    MBW Base Watch

    Shaved CGs

    Drilled Lugs

    Hands re-lumed by the Ziggmeister

    OEM Insert and Luminova Pearl

    OEM Triplock Crown

    OEM Luminova Glossy Service Dial with white gold surrounds

    OEM T19 Plexi Crystal

    OEM 93150 Bracelet

    OEM 580 Endlinks

    NOS ETA2846 21.6k movement

    This was already a pretty good watch by itself but I made some changes;

    - Re-shaped the cg’s

    - Changed the Plexi for a Superdome (BC)

    - Got a 5513 Maxi-Dial from Minh (had the lume change to white)

    - Colored the lume markers to a nice dark tritium like color

    - Installed Clark Hands (backed them and also re-painted them)

    - Installed a Gen Fat Font insert (have to add the pearl)

    Enough talk; onto the pics:

    The 1665 DRSD Tropical:

    A close-up of the dial:

    Another one ;)

    And another one (with a different insert):

    On to the 5513 Maxi-Dial:

    One more:

    And yes.. one more ;)

    Both together:

    And of course the wrist-shot:

    Thanks to RWG for it's knowledge (I really needed sneeds tutorial on how to fix the keyless :) otherwise I would have had a big problem..) and all members for their constant contribution!

    Cheers!

  4. Hi guys,

    I would like to ask for your help on the following matter;

    I'm planning to build a 1665 rail dial with the following specs:

    - Phong midcase + caseback

    - Bigcrown superdome

    - gen 702 crown 7020 tube (not 100% sure about this; depends on the price)

    - gen 1570 movt

    - gen 93150 bracelet with 585 (if I can get them) end links

    - ingod 1665 rail dial

    - gen tritium hands

    - gen faded fat font insert

    As you can imagine this project is going to set me back in terms of $$$ so I'm also looking at alternatives that would hopefulle be more costefficient without giving in to the end-result, so...

    The questions I have are these;

    - would a gen bezel fit on the Phong retaining ring?

    - would a gen bezel be a worthy upgrade over the Phong bezel? (and have the 1665 bezels changes over the years?)

    - does anybody know the quality of the Phong 93150?

    - does anybody know how good the crown is from Phong?

    - does somebody know if 500usd is a 'normal' price for gen nos tritium hands...?

    - does anybody have another suggestion for hands?

    - does anybody have another suggestions...? ^_^

    Look forward reading your replies!

    kind regards,

    fitch

  5. Great! Thanks guys! Would it be possible to use the same inserts though? On VRF I noticed sellers offer fat font inserts for 5512/5513/1680/1665 but I'd like to doublecheck if this indeed would be correct...

    edit: forgot to add; as far as you might know; would a ingod44 rail dial line up with the datewheel in a ETA 2846-2...?

    Thanks!

  6. My only suggestion would be to give the bracelet and case a bit of a flogging: A watch which was sun-damaged to such a degree would not have been a safe-queen :victory: Other than that, I can't make any suggestions for such a fine piece :good::drinks:

    I agree but I'm still contemplating the degree of 'wear' I would like to give it ^_^ I think I will start gently with smoothing things up and see how far I can take it :lol:

  7. Beautiful watch, great looking inserts, could you elaborate a little more on how you did that? I'd get pearls for the inserts, the ones you can fill yourself so you can match the patina of the lume, maybe gen relumed Tudor hands or have the current ones relumed (again to match the hour markers). I always feel like the aftermarket mercedes hand look a little bit pointy compared to gen ones, but maybe that's just me, I'm absolutely no experts on them, though.

    sure; the darker one; baked at 250 degrees celsius for 25 minutes, after that for 1 minute in household bleach (bleaching process went very quickly; be carefull with it!), rinse and capecodded it a bit, after that another rinse with mild soap and warm wather; that did the trick!

    the lighter one; I received it backed (so it was very dark brown), I put in in bleach for 2~3 minutes, after that I backed them again to get a yellow fade on the entire bezel for 20 minutes in 250 degrees celcius. capecodded and rinsed it and that was it!

    the yuki pearl has been ordered yesterday ^_^ thanks for the tip though!!

  8. Hi all,

    I recently purchased this great 5513 with the following specs:

    MBW/MBK case (CGs shaved)

    OEM 93150 bracelet, 580 link

    OEM insert

    OEM crown

    OEM T19

    Yuki gilt dial (baked)

    Yuki gilt Tudor hands

    ETA 2824/36

    I have baked and faded both OEM inserts and am very happy with the outcome;

    baked and faded bezel;

    foto%201.JPG

    baked and faded more extreme and baked again;

    foto%202.JPG

    the two inserts together;

    foto%203.JPG

    and again;

    foto%204.JPG

    New hands (both silver as well as gold) are on their way to do experiments on aging to replace the current golden hands.

    I will also do some more work on the cg's

    I'm wundering if there is anything else to do... might a gen bezel be a worhtwhile improvement (and more important; will the mbw case accept the gen parts that any of you know of?)

    gen movement + hands will acquire work on the case in order to fit correctly which is something I can't do myself so that's off the table for now..

    any other suggestions..?

    I look forward reading your replies!

    Cheers,

    fitch

  9. Hi all,

    I recently bought a very nice 5513/5512 on W-C and I've experimented with fading/aging inserts which has resulted in two great brown faded inserts so I'm looking for a dial that can match this nice tropical look. The current dial is a baked gilt dial and it's very beautifull but because of the baking process the printing is not so readable anymore so I'm looking for some other options.

    I hope you could give me some comments regarding quality (font, printing etc.) and service (availability, shipping etc.) of these two sellers;

    ingod44's gilt dial: http://www.ingod44.c...ef-5513-2-line/

    or this 'chocolate' dial (does anybody know if this dial is indeed dark chocolate? the dial itself appears to be black to me but I hope i'm mistaken)

    ingod44: http://www.ingod44.c...irst-chocolate/

    or perhaps this yuki?

    http://www.yukiwatch...817/6694531.htm

    If any of you have another suggestion please let me know! I look forward reading your replies!

    Thanks and kind regards,

    fitch

    PS: this is how the 5513 looks at the moment with one of the two brown faded inserts;
