It does look quite similar to the Seikos, especially given the crown position around 4 o clock.
The Spirotechniques TAGs are actually very hard to come by now, I haven't a listing on eBay for months now.
I'm actually in the process of trying to build a vintage Heuer diver from odd parts - will share it with you guys in due time.

Either that or the hour pinion is slipping due to an excess gap between movement and the underside of the dial, this is usually the cause when a washer is not used on a 2824 movement, this latter problem is not evident with a 2836.
+1 to this.
There is a cover on the hour wheel in a 2836, whereas not on the 2824

post a pic and we can give you better advice.
Its uncommon for the generic suppliers to provide wrong cyclop positions, especially if you have tried several different suppliers. Its more likely your dial isn't gen-spec.

please dont post duplicate threads for the same topic.
Like Automatico said, its likely a high beat asian movement - $150-200 at best.
-
well at least he isnt selling it for $4.5K haha

Would have thought gluing a dial to another dial increases the height needed for the hour wheel, minute wheel, etc to pass. Are you guys not experiencing this issue?

"And remember, putting a Rolex 1030 movement in a watch can be tricky - Rolex hasn't made that movement in over 50 years, so parts are tough to come by - maybe impossible."
The 'goat is right and the 1030 is not known to be very rugged especially when compared to an Eta 28xx. For example, try to find a reasonably priced new rotor bearing for a 1030 (p/n 7004), the bearing being a common problem with them. The 1530 base movements are a better bet but still expen$ive, not overly rugged, and they did not come in the 6538. If it was me, I would spend the $$ on a good case and dial with a slow beat Eta.
With replica watches, "Looks are everything". It does not really matter what is inside, especially if it has a solid case back. Frankensteins are a leeetle bit different...
R,
It baffles me after you have been here +5 years you havent figured out the "quote" option for other people's post - shall I run a tutorial for you?

mass producers also target mass consumers whom don't really nitpick as much as we do. The incremental cost for the added "realism" prolly doesn't make their ROI worthwhile

??
did you contact Ronin per his generous offer?
you cant access WTB section since you're not a supporter

I've never seen an insert for a 1680 with a metal surround at the pearl, so I don't think it's genuine, but I could be wrong. Those Rolex envelopes are a dime a dozen BTW.
I do have that insert for a gold/black dialed 1680 with an all acrylic pearl- picked it up for a song 5 years ago. I was thinking about building a TT 1680- which by the way is a fantasy model- Rolex never sold a TT 1680!
I agree with Alli here - first impression seems to suggest this isn't genuine.

looking good.
A couple of comments:
1) probably should have used a 2846 so you didnt have to clip the feet.
2) what happened to the original bezel insert? (with the fat font) - they tend to look better though maybe you are after the serviced look.

perfection!
digging it!
these are mammoth and pricey projects I gather - good for you!
-
thanks for the comments guys.
Yes - havent seen these on eBay for a while now - think they are all in the hands of collectors now.

Picked up this watch from a private seller recently. Thought I paid a fair price. Decent condition but the crystal may need a buffing. You can see how fat the case is also.
Quite happy with it!
Here's a bit of history on the watch.

fine wine indeed...

Panerai said it spot on - Seikos are still considered a pretty standard Japanese watch with no real luxury appeal to the broader public.
I have definitely seen replica Seikos before. For example, I'm not sure if its still available but Silix was selling rep Seikos:

He also had some divers but for the price, you may as well buy the genuine piece.

Well there are no MK designations that I know of for Sapphire sub inserts (16800, 168000, 16610 all use the same inserts). Where are you getting this MK2 stuff from?
The Sapphire inserts are
1. different than plastic sub inserts both in font and size.
2. much much cheaper than plastic sub Fat Font inserts. So you can probably pick one up for around $60
Unlikely for $60 - if you can find good condition 16610 inserts for $60, i'll buy them off you everyday.
Try $100-120

Right, I'm sure they added it quickly. But I still love the look. Panerai never had much on the dial either.
thats a good point - i've forgotten about that!
I havent read the article but assuming these chapter-less dials never made it to the people?
-
clean I agree but I think diver watches need the chapter - both from a practical and cosmetic level.
-
Believe refinished could either mean 'repainted on a genuine similar size dial plate' or 'repainted on same reference genuine dial plate"
-
Looks good
Can I suggest you post these in the Rolex sub forums going forward?
-
good stuff keep us posted

the athaya crown is for the 702 isn't it?
