  1. You may also consider visiting the Hackintosh website. Here, they explain how to run os x perfectly on windows hardware. Now that Apple is Intel, a few lines of code, and you can have a Mac Pro at a Dell price. I have been running this exact machine for over a year, without hiccup. If you are serious about a Mac but don't have the dosh, you can build a cheapie, and have your Mac as well!!

Thanks for that, I may have to try it out :tu:

Can I triple boot (and triple partition) a Solid State Drive with Linux, Windows and OSX?

Edit: Will this work on an Intel i7, triple channel 12gb memory, nVidia 295 1.8gb graphics card?? Or on an old AMD Athlon 64 processor ?

  2. I have a Blackberry Bold and a Nokia N82, the latter of which has come up for an upgrade from the phone company. My contract is done for the past couple of months and I'm pretty much waiting until October when the Nokia N900 internet tablet comes out as well as the Sony Ericsson Satio. If I don't go for a phone, I have the option of reducing my monthly bill by an amount as well.

The Blackberry takes care of multitasking: web browsing, messenger services, push email, divx/xvid viewing, mobi pocketbook reader, 16gb memory card etc. What it lacks is a good camera.

The Nokia N82 is my camera. I have no other, so I am a little wary of going to the excellent looking Nokia N900 (with an open source OS) as it is a slight downgrade in the camera department. It has the same 5MP camera but no xenon flash, only a dual LED flash. I am tempted as it just looks so good with it's multitasking capabilities, 256mb RAM, upto 1gb of application space, 32gb onboard storage, true desktop web-browsing with Flash and multiple pages open concurrently, big screen, touchscreen, but hardware keyboard if i need it, as I've never had a touchscreen before. I like the possibilities of doing computer geeky stuff if I want, installing things like Mame and DOS emulation etc. It has Skype and Messenger services integrated. If it has Push email it could even tempt me off the Blackberry (but that keyboard is great so I doubt it just yet!). I like that it has native Xvid and DivX support too. FLAC would be nice and I understand applications from the previous non-telephone tablet N800 and N810 are being ported over by the original makers, and most (if not all) applications will be free. The live updates of things like Twitter and Facebook (if you like that sort of thing) is pretty good but I'm sure other phones do that already. I found videos which show how it works and they look quite good:

    3 videos of the N900

    What do you think?

I went for the N82 as I liked the camera and the Sony Ericsson Satio sems to fit the bill. Sounds like a normal point and shoot Sony style camera with the latest version of Symbian touch (as seen on the N97) as well. The plus for me is that this has an active lens cover with both Xenon flash and LED (probably for video recording?). I'm a little wary of SE products at the moment as their quality seems to have dropped, but if this one proves to be as good as it sounds, it may well be the one to replace my N82. It does have obvious downsides like lower RAM than the N900, barely any onboard storage, and finally they're using microSD cards and not the M2s. I still don't like their proprietary port though. USB is much more convenient. I could use my spare Blackberry charger at work for both as it's USB and it also came with attachments for European and US power.

I await the reviews of the finalised phones ... who knows, I may not even bother upgrading!

What are everyone's thoughts on these phones coming out ? Anyone excited by any of them ?

(I've ignored most of the Samsung ones as they sadly have no lens cover on their cameras :( )

PS. please, no one tell me to get the iPhone, it's not quite right for me yet - no hardware keyboard, no mass storage mode, no hot swappable microSD card support, no native DivX/XviD support, I don't want iTunes on my computer ever again etc etc. As good as it is, it's just not for me :(

  3. There isn't a good option out there as they all have their faults.

The problem with the ND Trading dial is the font type, particularly the 'S' that they use; it's an instant 'tell' ;)

The Yuki dials are pretty standard HK fare, and easy to spot due to the fonts and serifs.

The MBW dial is maybe the closest in appearance, but again, it has it's flaws (date alignment, etc).

Personally, I'd build a great white using a gen dial with matching hands and a 1570 in a Phong or NDT case.

    Just my $0.02...

    ^_^

    :tu:

Can't wait to see what kruzer does with his phong case ;)

  4. Many thanks :) I've been collecting reference material of aged 1655s, so I'll have an understanding of how they age, or rather, how well they age, which seems to be better than how Submariners age :)

There *are* tritium dials that are still white... just means they aren't exposed to the elements as much, so to say. Ie. the crown is screwed down properly! Much rarer to find them, but find them you can...

  5. from wiki:

The Rolex Explorer II 2 Reference 1655, is also now so-called Rolex Steve McQueen in the horology collectors world, but the Rolex Submariner Reference 5512 he was often photographed wearing in private moments sold for $234,000 at auction on June 11, 2009, a world-record price for the reference.

Steve McQueen was also a sponsored ambassador for Heuer Watches. In the 1970 movie Lemans, McQueen famously wore a blue faced Monaco 1133B Caliber 11 Automatic which has lead to its cult status with watch collectors. This watch also sold for $87,600 at auction on June 11, 2009, a world-record for the reference. Tag Heuer continues to promote their Monaco range with McQueen

  6. Here is Spin's 6239: Spinmaster 6239 I remember a thread where he had given a dial a vintage look with a cream dial. I think it was coolfire's watch but I am not sure.

Coolfire's is the first and last of his vintagized dials... it's too expensive a process to be worthwhile!

And I recommend spinmeister as well... go for his 7760 version and you'll get a very close one.

And ask for that particular dial, I've seen that on one of his other watches I think :tu:

but if you really wanna go crazy, i can get a gen case for around 10-11k :o

  7. Yukiwatch are likely the same souce as Vietnamese cases.

Yuki are based in Hong Kong. No idea if they get the Vietnamese cases or not. Only source I know for definite is jewelry & watch. Freddy333 would probably know.

  8. I've been away. Consider me a noob.

Which DSSD is the best? Who stocks it? What prices are good?

It's ridiculously easy to take your eye off the ball for a month or two and become a noob again. Everyone should try it sometime to get a perspective on how tricky it can be for noobs.

    Use the search button ;)

Just kidding, others have already answered your question :tu:
