Breitguy, I think it's too early for all of the dealers to have caught up. But I think it's only because too few days have passed. The environment is much more conducive for them here, in my opinion. What happened, I think, is that the membership felt abandoned by the board Admin/Owner, Blade. And because we were abandoned, people felt that it was only a matter of time before RWG I collapsed. Rather than wait for that to happen, RWG II gives the board a fresh start and a greater guarantee of long-term existance. By the way, welcome. But I'm curious, what is your favorite brand of watch??

Greetings M! The board has a number of German members -- including, if I am not mistaken, admin, our Admin, and Thor, one of the Moderators. Although I live in the US (born in Germany but spent almost my entire life in the US), I do not recall any threads or posts that talk about customs problems in Germany. As you get ready to place your first order, I suggest you ask your potential dealers how the handle potential customs confiscations. Some dealers replace confiscated watches, others do not. Quite honestly it depends in part on their pricing. A dealer who offers extremely low prices may place the risk on the buyer. A higher priced dealer may consider the risk one of his costs of doing busiiness. All of the dealers I have dealt with are fairly upfront about their policies.

I agree that everyone has unique tastes -- which is why admin' perspective is always refreshing in a forum where many peoples' favorites lean heavily toward the Submariner/Seamaster/Pan side of the spectrum. Nothing wrong with those options, of course, and they are among the best repped models available, but if I were to buy a genuine watch, I think I'd get something different and unlikely to be repped, whether the rep is good or bad.

Have you wondered about our new Web address, http://www.rwg.cc, and what the *.cc top-level Internet domain stands for? This inquiring mind wanted to know, and I discovered that it is the top-level domain identifier for the Cocos/Keeling Islands. Granted, I don't get out much, so I have to admit that I had never heard of the Cocos/Keeling Islands. OK, so here is the scoop, for the rest of you who also had never heard of them. The Cocos are a group of 27 islands in the Indian Ocean, southwest of Indonesia, about halfway from Australia to Sri Lanka. Captain William KEELING discovered the islands in 1609, but they remained uninhabited until the 19th century. Annexed by the UK in 1857, they were transferred to the Australian Government in 1955. The population on the two inhabited islands generally is split between the ethnic Europeans on West Island and the ethnic Malays on Home Island. About 14 sq km., (ab. 24 times the size of the Mall in Washington, DC) with a population of 628 and a 5 person police force. Looks like just the spot for the first international convention of RWGers.

That sounds like quite the conversation, if it ranges from watches to swans... and god knows what else. There must not have been too many customers in the store. In any case, the answer to your question probably has something to do with flavor. Not all birds taste the same, and, I imagine, even taste particularly good. I just saw an article about pigeon, which were a delicacy 100 years ago, but are rarely eaten today. The author (perhaps as obsessive as some watch collectors we know) actually collected and hatched pigeon eggs, then raised the young hatchlings in order to eventually create a gourmet meal described in a very old cook book. His verdict: There was no comparison between his young home raised pigeons and regular "street" or city pigeons. Seems to me this should be in Off Topic, or the Loony Bin, even.

Welcome, and enjoy, Polo. My best advice is to take your time, study and think about the pictures and comments, and eventually make your choice. Whether you only want 1 watch or 10, there's no rush. There are a lot of great people here, and you may even find yourself coming back as much for the cameraderie as for the watches. Also, Michigan is an awesome place.

I would love to serve on a jury some time.... for an interesting case. But not for two months. In Canada can you claim that serving would cause a hardship at work?
