  1. +1 on VSF. Clean (GMTs) and King’s are not far behind. Forget NOOB these days. (Supposedly closed). NOOB were time bombs with dirty poorly lubed movements and mediocre QC.
  2. Welcome. You’ve come to the right place for extensive vintage Rolex knowledge and Frankens. Pull up a chair and grab a beverage. Lots to learn and see here.
  3. I love these comparison posts. Please keep them coming. Thank you.
  4. It’s an odd place. I had a post locked and was admonished for posting a link to a post on another (reputable) watch forum. As if it was going to steal views and ad revenue. WUS is a must if you want to buy/sell GEN watches without the commissions of eBay/Chrono24 and don’t want to deal with the Reddit $h!+ show.
  5. That makes sense. However if I had to guess, and to your point on “clarity”— they probably underwent additional polishing and buffing. After a month on the wrist, would it really matter? Perhaps, if the underside/dial side maintains this uptick in polishing. But from an economics perspective. $12, $20 vs $300 is not a wise investment for something that will be fouled by the door jamb, underside of your desk, or MacBook. 🤣
  6. Found this cheat sheet on RWI. How to spot the VS (that you really want)... Edit to add DD or Dangdong is the newest kid on the block and is supposedly exclusive to CLEAN Factory. Full 70hr power reserve. So DD and Vx has essentially taken over for SH.
  7. I thought I Sternkruz was Rolex's OEM back in the day... I think I read that HERE on RWG in the The Zigmeister Era... Woah! Just learned something. I thought my AD's watchmaker was crazy when he mentioned a 'bezel stretcher' when I was having issues with a GEN 14060. So, the fact I have a very hard to turn bezel on my Gen Sub is not unheard of and Rolex has/had a solution for this? Is there any DIY improving my tight bezel. I honestly thought it was just dead skin and gunk under the bezel.
  8. Help me out here, my experience with GEN 1675, 1680, 14060, 1016, 5513 run counter to data here: https://millenarywatches.com/rolex-end-link-codes/ Case in point, the claim is 280 fits 1675. I found to this to be the absolute WORST fit, most rattle'y. I ended up with a 501b that fits perfectly.... Anyone out have any better data on fit and measurements here? Even the old "Yellow" spreadsheet that has been floating around the internet for the last 2 decades seems off. Thoughts? Edit to add, seems like 501b "b"? seem to fit darn near everything correctly...
  9. The “V” series clones are where it’s at.
  10. I learned something today. Thank you. I need to check that out. I wonder if the Clone movements allow for this.
  11. Wow wow wow. This photo caught my eye: 2892 to 3135 I have always thought that THIN movement and GMT capability (2893) would be the better base for Rolex mods. That movement also "winds" silky smooth giving a more gen like winding experience. I think the problem is stem height and the need for H3+ wheels. A database of case/spacers might be a fun project. Especially with the amount of GEN cases for sale, or even good VN 1:1'ish clones.
  12. Came across this interesting eBay listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/295892851859 This presumes that calendar "alignment" can be adjusted. I would love to know the details behind such adjustments. I am guessing these are too thick to actually use as a see through dial, but would be fun if you could. Anyone familiar with this and how to tweak alignments? Here is an image grab in case you can't access fleaBay:
  13. This is amazing! Thank you. Something to kick my watchmaking up a notch. 😉
  14. Nice! Did you use a lathe or something more DIY ad hoc like a drill and a file?
  15. Thanks. Keep me posted. I wonder if 3d printers would work for this. 🤔
  16. I have some project cases from Vietnam that accept 1030 based movements. Given the 1030 scarcity. Is anyone aware of ETA/Miyota based adapter's? Thanks!
  17. SA's are moddified ETA 28xx. SH = Yuki's attempt and the VR/VS clones DO feature more interchangeable parts. If yours came out of a NOOB pre-2021 its a "SA" I bought a VR to replace a NOOB SA (that had the CHS issue). Only to find: The NOOB SA Hand Sizes were NOT Interchangable with Gen. But the VR took GEN Hands. https://www.ebay.com/itm/285239070436?hash=item426992cee4:g:cSUAAOSwqa9kPN6o&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA4DEPrZ8Nn8K284DP9%2BlqxWgfknQQ5BC%2Be8nLxa%2BEQER7LaVa2YXnrtcAvgDb27Ui%2BKjg3de2OrO8HQubVjwXrYR0V1L0%2BnValYb254p1jNRAfFAAXXqpkYf8wUW0VDZ85NEZ54byUX8xcMuT0eLq58cvWTzWV3LA6HxnkayJ2aadHbHnOQnLbk96wiBE5Ct8BB9u9icbrKiQT%2Bdjpc635bbxg5BxJjbcV%2FePNxApJXEAyUHh1IxoYxIdZEeLx6tAB%2FLcKZggkEGU1MCmcjPDLs%2FWNHy7LeerMPBpOdDhV%2BLd|tkp%3ABk9SR5bi0tHCYg ⬆️ This fit a Gen 16710 case, and took Gen Dial and Gen Hands, Gen Calendar. FYI....... Avoid the SA/ETA Hybrids.... Here is a better cheat sheet.
  18. 100% agree. Outside of watches, this is why I am a huge "Right To Repair" guy too. The notion that ONLY a ROLEX (Sleeved) Acrylic Tropic 19, 116, etc... is any better than a Clark or Sternkruz is ridiculous. The first time you whack a door jamb it doesn't matter. I would rather have NEW Clark than a 50yr old NOS possibly brittle Rolex part. I have used two Clark Mainsprings (1570 & 3135) and they are absolutely perfect. Both watches running COSC with them. ------ Side Note----- I was about to purchase a GEN 6538 from a "collector". The Radium hands were simply gross. It was beyond Patina and was flat out DAMAGE! When I said "I plan on wearing this watch, and these hands GOT TO GO, original or not, I plan on replacing them" --- the guy refused to to sell me the watch! No joke! The thought of me replacing original trashed radium hands from 1958 was some sort of blasphemous act. The watch was simply unwearable as it sat.
  19. This has always been my "Home/Favorite" forum, and the lack of traffic is depressing. Watch Forums have the same problem as Google Search these days, they all kinda suck when 'searching' for good information like RWG had circa 2008-2012. There is so much noise and DILUTION out there. Unfortunately, many of THIS forum's old technical posts have broken links now too. I never understood the draw to Reddit for watch info and now Replica stuff and sales. It seems like such a clumsy interface... WUS is nothing but ego's and power hungry moderators. However, this is must for reselling GEN's. TRF is useless, if you ask a serious technical question or are into Modding it is not the place for me/you... TRF is like an Apple Fan Boy forum, but for Rolex. Don't speak ill of the Crown! RWI is great for the new releases, and comparisons. The other RWG is hopping again. VRF always had the worst Forum Software possible, and their Tapatalk host always seems to have login issues. Timezone, similary, horrible Forum Software, never held my attention. I wish RWG was one stop shopping like it used to be...
  20. Quick question. Is there a way to toggle OFF Dark Mode for the forum? My old eyes struggle with Dark Mode these days. 😞
  21. The stuff coming out of VSF and Clean as of late is pretty darn good. Ever since Rolex switched to “blue” AR under the cyclops that immediate tell is gone. I had my VSF 126610 Sub together with the Genuine 126610 and it took serous scrutiny up close to tell. On the wrist, and arms length it is indistinguishable. Still a VSF with Gen crystal mod would be a fearless wearer. Anymore, at my age no one would question me.
  22. Blue is gen. Based on serifs and A. ? LOL. Went back and then read your last response. I sat and corrected. the thing with pad printing is that it can be inconsistent.
  23. Where is the shower curtain rod photo update? Amazing none the less!
