  1. The scrathes that you have shown, from what I can tell from the photos would not cause the strap wear. As bazonkers states, it's the thickness of the strap that seems the issue. Gen Panerai straps seem to be thinner than some third party straps and davidesen's cases are different. I can only echo bazonker as what he says is true. Maybe get a thinner strap and try to sell the ones you have. Look for one about 4mm and it shouldn't wear down. If you want to get rid of davidsens watch, you would have to consider a lower price as if you wanted the same amount you paid for it, people would rather deal with him directly as you have a low number of posts on the forum. Sorry dude, but it's just one of those things. Some third party straps are just too thick to wear well on some PAM reps...especially when the cases have been modified neaer to the gens.
  2. Nobody mentioned London yet?...and with so many votes?
  3. Thanks for the compliments. I got them from another member...ages ago and can't remember who...sorry. You can get them cheap on 'a certain auction site' tho...just do a search for watch display stands.
  4. Can beat a BOB Vertigo for the money. Also try tcstraps.com - daily specials for some real quality at bargain prices.
  5. Thanks for clearing that up. I'm still learning the differences and have obviously noted incorrectly about the shock protection type being a tell tale sign. The other things that I thought i knew how to tell the origin of a movement are: Flared spokes on the balance wheel = Asian (but as Daytona shows, these are on gens too!) Bevelled edge on winding and crown wheels = swiss ...but i'm only a noob and still trying to pick things up. I'm really confused lately as it seems that some rep movements have a mixture of either swiss, swiss cloned or asian parts.
  6. Just thought i'd post a few pics of my collection...only 3 so far, but i'm hoping it will grow in the near future. The 196 Daylight is sick tho'...Need a new crown as stem snapped off inside (anyone have a spare?)
  7. babola....can you clarify something? I thought a mvnt with incabloc shock protection was asian...now i'm confused. I thought that the swiss had novodiac? I can't really see the shape of it in the pic. Hope i'm right, otherwise all my 'swiss' movement purchases have been a lie.
  8. Thanks buddy, but I think ajoesmith has both crown and stem he can sell me. But if anyone in the EU has a spare set, i'd be willing to part my cash for them.
  9. Hi, Anyone know where I could get a replacement crown and stem/pin for a PAM196? I was changing the time the other day and the stem just snapped...now I have the crown with half of the stem still screwed in but it's below the level of the crown, so I can't get it out. I need to replace the whole crown/stem mechanism. I've asked a few modders/dealers on the 'other' forum, but no luck. I'm desperate to get my 'baby' on my wrist again soon as possible. Searching proves 'nada'. Thanks guys.... - Stu
  10. I'm glad I found this post...time to revive it... My crown stem snapped when I tried to adjust the time today and I have a couple of questions: There is a small bit sheared off in the crown tube and there is nothing to grip and unscrew. Anyone have any tips to get it out? How do I remove the stem from the movement to replace it? (I have a Pam Daylight 196, so I don't see a screw to release the stem as in bruce79's tutorial) Anyone know why this would have just snapped under normal use? (If the guard lever is too tight, I need to fix this to stop it happening on the replacement). Thanks anyone who can help.... I owe you one!
  11. I got my new Pam111h from PT and have to say what an excellent dealer he is. Fast comms and super fast delivery - very professional guy. Just got 2 new TC straps from Elliott. Dark one is the Toscana Capriccio & the lighter one is the Toscana Siena Camel Skin. I thought I'd share the love and post some pics..... What do you think?
  12. Thanks for the comments and I agree with you totally. I have oiled the strap some more and it's darker now and stinks of linseed oil I also have blisters on my thumb from smoothing the leather to take out the scratches and IMO it looks ten times better now. I want to get my hands on some nasty shiny straps to practise on now to see if i'm good at this thing. Any ideas on how I can change the stitching colour without changing the strap?
  13. Yes, it was the default rep strap that came with it.
  14. Got my 111h with swan neck and AR coating this week and decided to mess with the OEM strap. Being real leather, the manufacturers made a good job of making it look like vinyl - A small amount of Nitromors paint stripper, aluminium-oxide glass paper and a bit of brown boot polish..... Could be better but I think it's a definate improvement until my MP and Toscana straps are posted to me. When I first started looking at the rep forums, I was hunting for a modern SS sports watch and purchased the Daytona 2005 from PT and I was content with just the one watch. I saw the Pams and didn't like them.... In fact, I thought that they looked old fashioned and too classic for me at that time. After learning about watches and reading through the seemingly unlimited info on all of the forums, I came to like the look of the Pams. Truly simple, sort of post-war minimalism, but with a 'year 2000' feel. My first Pam is the 111h pictured here...and I can promise it wont be my last model. I'm truly hooked and although my 'Tona will always be on my wrist at the gym, the 111h is my buisness watch.
