  1. hi, new here and trying to find some info on PVD PAM009 to fuel my rep-fire! I have just ordered a mini fiddy and anxiously waiting for it to arrive and have totally fallen for the PVD PAM009 and been doing a bit of reading up.. i've read about PVD process and how the finish can vary, also some info on DSN and his watches and a thread about peoples favourite DSN watches which seems to bode well for his quality, service and the "out of the box" goodness he offers!.. I got an email from him last night confirming he has 009 instock with a price which I think is quite reasonable, but wondered if there is anyone else I should be considering for this watch or if there is a better version.. i initially fell for the PAM000, however this is apparently not available in a PVD finish and so am leaning towards the 009.. if there is another watch i should know about which is a similar plain pvd design then i would also be interested to hear some info.. sorry if this has been covered already; i've done a search but not really found a lot of information regarding the 009 and which versions/dealers are the best starting point and as im a noob would appreciate any info people cna offer b
  2. i have recently branched out into the world of rep's and brought a panerai replica from a member here. i also have a cheap rolex submariner rep which a friend brough for me while he was on holiday in the far east which is kind of responsible for all of this anyway, the more i read, the more i realise my holiday present isn't a good replica and the more i lust after a nice vintage seadweller rep or similar as a project (starting simple and hopefully developing towards a franken project over time). in the meantime i've decided to use the cheap sub rep as a practice piece to familiarise myself with removing casebacks, movements, crystals, hands, faces, etc., and would like to turn it into a kind of vintage style "beater" project to get used to things before i start on anything more serious (expensive) my plans for this watch are really to have a good practice at fiddling with things; i intend doing a bit of vintagizing, some CG reshaping (possibly removal) replace the bezel insert and crystal, and just use it as a practice piece. Ultimately i'd like to turn it into a cheap bond-sub or similar rep on a nato strap; i know its never going to convince anyone who knows a real rolex, but its something i'd like to do as a first project and to gain some confidence before i start hacking and whacking something more expensive! i have been trawling around the net and other posts here looking for reference to some cheap aftermarket dials for eta movements, and not had much luck. if anyone can point me towards a dial which might be suitable (i believe the current dial is 26mm dia, movement is an asian eta) for under $50 i'd appreciate it I will post up some pics (if the result is not too embarassing) when i've finished thanks in advance ben
  3. thanks! currently i have an old omega deville left to me by my grandfather that im scared to wear for fear of smashing it, and a dodgy dssd replica with a submariner dial and case!.. i will take some pictures but its really nothing special!!..
  4. hi im new here, was given a replica rolex which is a bit of a dogs dinner by a friend who visited the far east and thought i might like it! have been reading up a bit here and am hoping to use some of the parts from this to build myself a drsd/rsd/gwsd using a new case, face, hands, crystal, etc.. im totally new to all this (although longtime vintage seadweller fancier) so please be gentle ben
  5. hi newbie so please go gentle i've done a search but not turned up what im looking for.. i have a rolex replica of unknown parentage that i was given and its not great with the exception of the movement and the strap; japanese ETA movement looses about 10 sec's a week, and the strap is pretty good; hollow middle links, nice clasp, etc. Its not 100% correct but apart from the clasp its pretty spot-on (and I like the way the clasp works ). i am considering transplanting the movement and strap to another case and build a beater GWSD/RSD/DRSD, pref an old/worn looking one as I love the worn-in look.. i understand there probably isn't a genuine DRSD beater in existance anywhere in the world, but i don't really care, its going to be a day-to-day watch with the look I'm after (doesn't need to be 100% correct for the time being, im going to work on it over time collecting bits as i go). does anyone know whether the 1680 and similar cases on eurotimez would take an ETA movement, also whether they are suitable for this sort of project or whether i should save my money for the time being do it more justice with a "better" movement, face, hands, etc, etc right from the get-go?.. also how much modding should i be looking to do to a case like this before fitting everything (eg. CG shaping) if I want to get it cosmetically as close as poss to start with (I will add things like a better pearl, bezel, etc. asap and more expensive things over time) like i said it doesnt need to be 100% spot on but i'd like it to be close.. this is the weathered look i'm after (sorry for the pic hijack; its courtesy (but without permission) of "bigcrown".. I'm not sugesting this watch is a beater or anything like im going to produce as its obvious from the advert this is an absolute work of art!.. any help or advice anyone can give me would be fab, this is the first timepiece project i've ever undertaken and im getting quite excited by the prospect already! ben
