Now I know what all the fuss is about. My Orange Monster arrived today and it is beautiful!

Is the rolex deepsea on Josh site V5?
http://www.jpc8118.com/rlsd01088-deep-dweller-swiss-eta2836-ultv-p-5942.html
Or did i get a bad version?
I hope not, I just got mine yesterday...
There is no bevelled date window as it should be.
Mine has a bevelled date window (unlike it shows on the site). Will take some decent pics tomorrow.

I'm very interested to see how the thread unfolds. Too newb to contribute but hopefully will learn a thing or two from this. Good one!

My DSSD ("ultimate" version from Josh) arrived just today and my first impression is that it's awesome. Awesome to the max!
Sorry crappy photo:

Before you go and get another DG4813, read my thread on the DG4813. The ones I bought from OFREI do not appear to be ticking at 8 ticks per second. They only manage 6 ticks per second like a 21,600BPH movement.
DG4813 - 6 or 8 ticks per second?
I'm not sure why that is, but the movement is a DG4813.
AS for what other option there are, I would suggest an ETA 2824-2 or 2836-2. They do not require you to change the stems or canons. The only problem you may have is the diameter of the minute and seconds hand shaft holes. The DG2813/4813 are listed as 100/150/17, the ETA are 90/150/25.
What I THINK that means is the hour hand fits fine, the minute hand is too loose, the seconds hand will be too tight. Someone who know please correct me if I'm wrong
Interesting read, so maybe I should save myself the pain and just straight swap with a new dg2813.
I'll compare beats (from memory) when my new ETA rep arrives.
I'm undecided about dealing with ETZ again. Now that I've read/know a lot more, it's become clear that my N00bmariner is an absolute dud, with so many flaws that shouldn't have been cleared by QC. In fact, it's obvious that the check list it arrived with was just filled out favourably regardless. It has very little in common with the n00b reviewed by By-Tor.
Thanks for all the input guys, much appreciated.

Ok, is there any "straight swap" movement I can get?
-
Dudemeister, that makes sense, then, why we can't seem to find any!
Mastermind, my depth mic is in my toolbox at work so I used my wobbly caliper (not real exact) and got a measurement that averaged around .054" from end of minutes pinion to the date wheel plate. So, I would say if you measure .020" or more greater than that it very well might work...
I will check it out.

RWG has always and will continue .. imo .. to be as "up and up" as any forum could possibly be !!
I doubt that it has ever been an issue cause it has always been without issue .. taken for granted that Mods would not allow "Themselves" to participate in the genuine raffles.. I don't believe it was even asked..but rather a unspoken rule..
the reason for this being to avoid issues of members thinking that the raffle was "rigged" ..
but I throw the topic out to the membership..
you may leave comments if you'd like.. no one will take it personally as I have not asked the Admin Team if I could post this .. So ... being the quality Men that they are.. I'm sure they will not want it to sway one way or another..
I just felt that an open discussion would be as honest as RWG represents it's Forum
Yes .. needs to be answered without prejudice.. meaning no doubt that it is 100% not an issue..

How exactly is the winner the chosen?
-
No probs, but i guess we really need an expert on the movements to weigh in so I know it's the correct (or requisite) pinion needed.
-
Looks exactly like the ones I bought from Ofrei, except mine came in the plastic round yellow half shell boxes.
Well if it turns out to be the correct one, then we still have a source (not that they're highly sought after).
Guy had a handful and I paid 33AUD which is 29USD.

Oops, in my nubbery haste, I didn't realise there was more than one. Can anyone tell me from these pics if this is the right one?:

Thanks Toad, that's perfect! You're a legend!

There is a great tutorial made by a guy called Ajoesmith on a movement swap similar to what you are attempting.
I dont know if he has posted that on this site, but he has the tutorial sticked on his section over @ repgeek.
Good luck!
Cheers
Mike
Thanks Mike. I figure I will actually need a little luck. I've spoken to ajoesmith and they are in fact his videos^^ at youtube.
Interestingly, ajoesmith lives only an hours drive from me and I've asked if he'll fix it for me if I stuff it up. Though I'd really like to learn how to do it myself.
His video/tutorial is great but it's the datewheel sticky tape thing that bothers me, and wondered if there's a preferable way...?

Hi, ok so I have my second rep on the way and I've bought some tools and need to fix my first rep, the n00bmariner.
It's only a few weeks old, but has a few problems I'd like to fix. I had bought some tools just to take it apart to fix the crystal (it's uneven - lower on one side), but now the second hand has stopped ticking so I've bought a dg4813 to replace the dg2813 and Bergon presto tool and will attempt a movement swap.
I've only been able to find this series of vids on youtube
I'm sure there must be something here but have searched and manually browsed and haven't found anything specific except for pulldown.
Can anyone recommend some good (noobfriendly *EDIT - actually doesn't have to be noobfriendly*) tutes/ links etc please?
Naturally I realise now I should have gone with a better movement in the first place so the one I have coming is an ETA.
Thanks in advance and apologies if there's something obvious I'm missing.

its the "supreme" *click*
Thanks, I didn't get a response from PT so I've ordered the "Ultimate" from Josh. Hope it's as nice as yours. It's beautiful!

Hey Star69, great watch! Can you tell me though, which is the V6?
-
Gen Ind today.

Great site! Lots of interesting things to read, thanks for the link. I made the list at #1 with my first rep. No surprises there...

I saw many at the time, but this^ and a Tag, similar to P4GTR's above, were the two I bought on the streets of Lombok in '96.
The Camel has done really well. Radioactive lumed dial. Jewellers are happy to work on it and always comment on the high quality of quartz movement. The tag however is completely cancered.

Well I'm a complete rep n00b, (only two purchases) but I researched hard and long. I read a lot on the DSSD and the dealer both here and elsewhere and believe this is considered the best version. I just bought it so at least so I hope I'm right.

It's Saturday here, but anyway... Wearing my fave gen of the last couple months (Loyal, full ceramic, swiss). Pic doesn't do it justice but this thing sparkles without bling. Gets body temp warm and stays warm for a while after you remove it. I love it!

Hmmm, Something screwy happening right now!
First I've seen since the initial upgrade glitches.
Will have to get T down into the basement!
O/S
Ok cool, just a coincidence then. Was thinking it'd kinda suck if the quality of experience went down after paying for upgrade.
Cheers.

I'm going to do the bezel part of this to my "ultimate" even though uit's already a remarkable rep. I'm going to use either just white or maybe mix in some silver for accuracy (I've been scrutinising the gens in the flesh) but have a quick question...
Is there a paricular reason for using nail polish remover rather than thinnners or turps used in regular enamel clean up?
Oh, and thanks heaps for tip Gioarmani, great one!
