  1. Err... Solid gold bands run about $3000 (at least)

I realize that the solid gold ones run into the thousands and to be honest I would'nt be opposed so spending that if I knew it would fit our daydate reps (That way I could get a couple and move the band from watch to watch). I was just curious if anyone new a good place to get one that wasn't solid but still looked decent...

  2. I recently picked up a YG Daydate from Ruby and have really been liking the watch. The only week point (aside from the weight) is the color of the outer links of the president bracelet. Does anyone know where I can get a decent after market bracelet? I would even consider getting a solid gold one if I knew it would fit the watch. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  3. Yes it is the same style Cobra that was used in the movie xXx State of the Union, incase anyone wanted to see it in action.

A/C ? Really whats the point this thing is a roadster and has no way of keeping the cool air in.

I think I woulg go sans A/C, Cruise Control, and traction control, throw a Ford 4.6 DOHC with either twin or single turbos, IRS rear suspension if possible and go Porsche hunting.

I know my friend who built his Cobra sent the cars wiring harness off and they stripped something like 150lbs of wires out of the harness that he did not need for things like AC, Cruise, various lights, stereo, ect..

Imagine 1,000hp in a car that probably weighs less than 2,000 lbs...

In my opinion there is nothing like the Shelby Cobra... the sound of the engine is surreal. My father-in-law has an original 1965 Shelby Cobra 427... it is beautiful!!!!

  4. 4th Gen PO was a good rep, but not great by today's standards. Lots of members would like to see an updated 42mm version, with double AR, better bracelet and stuff...

I don't know if it's a realistic wish, but we can live in hope.

I am VERY surprised we have not seen an "ultimate" version of the 42mm PO. Reading across all the watch boards (RWG, RG, RWI, etc) I think the demand is very strong....

  5. also i saw this at josh's site looks perfect for me. Did rolex make a run of these with this kinds of diamonds?

    thanks again

Yes my father-in-law has the gen of this watch in solid yellow gold, but with a black face. It also has the baguette diamonds at the 6 and 9 positions. The watch is BEAUTIFUL.

I have the rep of this watch:

I really like it any my only complaint apart from the weight is that the watch itself "looks" slightly smaller when compared to the gen... but I believe that is an issue with all the DD reps (not sure about the DD II tho)

  6. The Day Date I got from Josh over a year ago was the same size as the gen... maybe when you say "wear smaller" you mean "wear lighter" because the gens are only available in precious metals, making the reps almost featherweights by comparison.

Yes they do wear lighter b/c of the metals, but i hold mine to the gen and is smaller.. the case itself looks smaller, so do the dial and lungs... which is why I was wondering if it was my watch or all DD reps...

Which one did you get from Josh?

  7. Hey guys - I know most people say the Rollie DayDate reps wear/look smaller then the gens. I a very much agree when I compared mine to my father-in-law's. I was wondering if anyone knew if any of the available DD reps (excluding the new DD II) are the are the correct size like the gen and don't look smaller on the wrist like the reps? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Happy Holidays!!!!

  8. To my knowledge there is no "ultimate" PO 42mm. If you want an ultimate you have two options:

1.) Bump up to the 45.5mm version - available thru all our dealers.

    or

2.) Get your hands on a 4th gen 42mm PO and with a few upgrades (dial, hands, pearl, and AR, see here) it will be very close to the gen. The only problem is that the supply of the 42mm seems to have dried up.

I have 2 4th gen 42mm PO. I will be selling one soon so you can PM if interested. It is a Swiss ETA, black bezel, white #'s, the only thing is you will need to get a replacement pearl as the original one has been lost

    Cheers!

  9. As said above...if you like the rep...wear it until it dies. Some can be considered disposable...others like the uber-Frankens obviously not.

Can a rep be serviced? All reps can be serviced...but like others have said, The Zigmeister included, some are just not worth it. A DG2813 asian movement is not worth servicing when a new movement can be had for $12. Is it even worth swapping out an Asian movement? At $12 + $50 service fee for a $100 brand new Noob with no wear and tear or scratches...you do your math.

On an A7750 movement watch, serviced properly can run indefinitely. At $240 for proper servicing for a $240 watch, is it worth it? That depends on you. A serviced movement will be reliable for likely 5 years and beyond. A rep unserviced is a crap shoot.

On an expensive super rep like a $1000 HBB, or even the $400 (with shipping) Ebels and the like, getting a replacement of the watch may be difficult...so servicing, or genuine ETA swap may be worth it for you, if you want that piece in your collection over the long term.

You have to decide of you want the piece to be operational over the long term...or if it's just a daily beater.

The same logic applies to a gen. Would you pay $3000+ for a gen watch, knowing that to have it last, you need to spend $200 - $600 (depending on who you go to) every 5 years to maintain it? You could wear it into the ground unserviced, but that will prematurely wreck the watch. If you had an expensive sports car, you wouldn't do that...why should a watch be any different? You should maintain it, if you want to keep it.

If you REALLY like the rep...get it serviced and ensure it can live a long life. While we have people like The Zigmeister, I'm happy to get things serviced. I mourn the day when he is no longer accepting pieces from anybody...really, what will happen 5 years down the line when I need the next servicing?

I just got a piece back from The Zigmeister and to those who are wondering what benefit servicing does...believe me, you can really feel the difference in the movement:

    • Rotor is silent
    • Winding is solid and smooth (just like my gens)
    • Time setting is smooth...no looseness in the hands at all
    • Overall feel of the watch is much improved

There seem to be new people popping up who service reps... there is a guy named Rex over on RG who has good prices... tho I have no idea about the quality...
