  1. Yes, some of them do. (please don't bid on the one that is for sale on the bay right know ;-) I hope to call it mine soon)

... damn, as I suspected another rep builder was watching that one... I'm sure you mean the 5513 dial with the nice creamy markers and spider effect. Did you win the bidding? Ended up going for higher than the cap I set for myself, but was still disappointed I wasn't the one to snag it!

  2. If you want the change your 1680 into a 5513 fhen I'm interested in your dail and hands.

I'll keep you posted. Have my eye on a gen dial but not sure what to do about hands yet… maybe gen Tudor hands?

ps- to the OP, love that NATO, is it Maratac?

  3. I know there's been a few of these recently. But as I asked so many questions when I started putting this together in July it seems only right to post a couple of shots and a thanks to all who contributed or kindly offered advice.

OK, now I'm seriously considering changing my 1680 into a 5513... stupid question but would it be as simple as dial / crystal swap? Already using an MBW 5513 case.

  4. I have been told by another dealer to expect a much better quality offering in the next few weeks so I would pass on these early [censored] up watches!

Really? Which dealer? Same movement but different case altogether, or more of a v2 of this with improved details? Something else unrelated?

  5. Didnt even know there was CostCo's in the UK !!

Whats there source? Grey Market? Does anyone know?

Yep, grey market. Omega actually sued Costco over this (and won... surprising to see them in this pic). I agree with one of the above posters about how this could be misleading for the buyer. Costco is known for steep discounts, but the watches I've seen at my local store are not any cheaper than can readily be found elsewhere.

  6. looks pretty good unless you want to get super picky

clasp coronet is a tad large, the side of the clasp appears to be missing the indent over the micro size adjuster (looks like a PT clasp)

insert appears to be a stock MBK with an ofrei pearl, you could always get a PMWF insert or gen

im sure the bracelet is incorrect, as they all are.

if you have more photos i could recommend more "tweaking", but as is it is pretty nice :good:

Thanks for the reply! I'm still learning about these vintage Subs and don't know the ins & outs yet. About the insert, is this one obviously "off" to you? It was the only thing to me that caught my eye as not looking quite gen. Too domed? Incorrect color? Not sure what it is...

Bracelet has incorrect endlinks but 580s were included. I might swap them, but maybe not. The current pair fit well. Here's one more shot.

  7. Hey guys, any advice on next steps with my inbound 1680? Old MBW 5513 case, listed w/spec:

Case has drilled lugholes and adjusted CGs. Dial and hands are relumed (and glows)

All work on the case and dial/hands was made by Ziegmeister.

Gen parts: Tube, crown, crystal and bars.

    ... and the pics

  8. Bought from original owner. Worn by him every day for 33 years...he was an iron worker, retired now. Was able to speak to him on the phone while closing the deal (trade). He said he wore this watch on some of the biggest industrial projects in the history of the US...projects that helped shape the country. From Skyscrapers to Nuclear Subs. The watch has been with him for some very fond memories. Why he wanted to part with it I don't know but I feel honored to have it now. It's a 5.1 mil. These pics are pre-service. Post service pics to come.

if it's being done by Rolex, make sure you specify they ONLY service the movement... would utterly ruin the rich history of this watch to swap in new parts & let it be brushed / polished.

  9. Hey guys, I'll chime in as I was the previous owner...

I bought this watch here on RWG, this is the original sales thread (just managed to dig it up today). It was sold as needing service but no mention of bezel issues, and several members including those that own BK noob GMTs seemed to think it was legit. I'm pretty sure I had the seller ship directly to PBdad, who I've worked with before and who was going to handle the service as well as swap the original black insert to Pepsi for me. I don't try ANY mods myself, leave that stuff to the pros. PB sent the watch off for service, and he himself swapped the insert (not sure in which order though). At the time he made no mention of the glue etc., but maybe he wouldn't have noticed? I honestly know very little about the bezel construction.

Sorry, I know that doesn't help much, but it's all the info I've got... and as mentioned in the OP, I've been in contact with the buyer, and PB, trying to sort this out.

  10. And please could someone also tell me where I could buy the best Sub? Many thanks. :victory:

    strike 1

You should just take the insurance money and buy another gen.

    strike 2

... I'm no expert but I'll try and actually answer your question. Most new Panerai from the so-called "H Factory" like the 111 and 005 are considered super reps. The latest Cartier Santos is very well regarded, as is the Breitling SuperOcean Abyss.

  11. If this was the US then we would have to look at many groups that can do this, in Norway we really only need to look at one group radical Islam.

One radical Islam guy was shouting in a protest whit around 1200 people around him that Norway could be the next London and at least 80% cheered him on and when they had an counter protest to this around 10 people show up, Nuff said!!

    [added emphasis above is mine]

I understand you were upset when this statement was made, but hopefully you've since reflected on it and seen the dangers of jumping to such conclusions. We do too much of that here in the States, where (aside from 9/11) our "terrorists" are home-grown as well. Extremism, not Islam, is the real enemy... in whichever form it takes.

  12. Photos server updated... Can you guys tell me if you have a problem with viewing the photos ?

Sometimes, my über-expensive SSL certificate is shitty with Firefox.

If yes, you can open the photo in another window, and let your browser know you want to see it !

    Thanks ! :pardon:

I can see 'em now that I refreshed... and speaking of the photos, could you take some comparison shots of the 2 Daytonas?
