How To Remove The Caseback Of A Panerai?
chrono903 replied to thomasng's topic in General Discussion
i used a rubber glove to take the back off my 111h. take the strap off first, it should work. -
anybody remember watchick on TZ with the daytona? very nice shots indeed.

so i receive one of those inexpensive subs from Neil and realize that the date window is just a bit off. Based on the price of the watch, i decided to take my hand at a fix. standing on the shoulders of giants i removed the case back with a rubber glove, depressed the little button to realease the crown, undid the movement holders, dropped the movement, popped the crystal, reintalled it, put the movement back in, which lined up perfectly now, i might add, and uh oh! The crown seemed to meet a bit of resistance. honestly, i did not conan the thing. i gingerly tried to coax it back in. well the tip broke off. am i screwed? are those crowns easy to find? anyone else have this problem? thanks, thom

Sorry i cant help, i just don't want you to think no one is listening. My expertise goes so far as to remove the bracelet, oil it with wd40, work it in,clean it and replace the bracelet. Over time they do become quite supple. i have heard people mention polishing them up with cape cod cloths. thom

Just received this today from Andrew. Also received TTK's sub. I know I am a little late getting on the 111H bus. I am going to see the indians tonight and this will be on my wrist. Have a great weekend!

My friend and i make 2 yearly treks to vegas. He loves watches as much as i do and the shops are always on the list of stops. we contemplated each picking up a PP sky moon to wear into tessorini. You know the looks would be priceless. -
My friend bought an SMP from Josh recently and it came with the screw bracelet. Although it is not as the gen, it was still a quality watch with impeccable service from Josh. I understand the desire for instant remedy, but patients among reputable dealers will prove worthwhile. I purchased a daytona from Josh a time ago. It came with all black hands, no lume. I informed Josh of the difference. A month or so went bye and i received new hands in the mail. He offered to pay to have them attached, I declined. He then offered a discount on my next purchase. I am sure if you are patient he will respond. thom

Seamaster Pro from Joshua in only 6 days!

thats nice but it seems it ha screwsin the bracelet rather than pins. although i prefer screws, the gen has pins. -
you know i just don't think i would change anything on mine except the bracelet, but not for $450. I don't like the gap between the end link and the bracelet but, it's really hardly noticeable when its on. As an aside, i have been "collecting" well more like buying and flipping watches for about 7 years now. My wife has seen and held enough Breitlings, omegas, iwc's and rolexes to know the difference. Well, when i handed her Andrews PO she would not believe me it was a rep. You really need to be a rep "geek" to know this isn't real. thom

at the risk of over simplifying things, if you use something softer than the case/bezel metal, you need not worry about scratches. I have seen tales of tongue depressors being used. I personally used a little brown piece of plastic used to clean pampered chef stoneware. thom

I am with you my friend, i have been a member of TZ since around 99. I love that place and this place. And i think owning reps is fine 2. I wasn't trying to be condescending, i just thought it was funny. You know there are plenty more of us here! and yes, very nice watches!

nice watches, saw you just got busted on TZ.

the T swiss made T are on the earlier versions. They have a mixed dial, hands and 12 indices are tritium, rest of indices are SL. The later verson say swiss made because the dials are all SL.

your welcome! and i am glad about that bracelet too. for all the praise it gets in the IWC circles, it appears easier to rep than the much maligned oyster. My funds are short right now, i bought a trusty PO and pam 111h and a TTK sub, but i will get an AT for sure soon.

here's some more info : The GST Aquatimer movement was based on an ETA 2892 base. This time, the movement was IWC calibre 37524 and significantly enhanced by IWC. One magazine, WatchTime, reports that IWC’s changes to the base movement were such that “you could almost describe it as a total revision….Nearly all critical components long the path form the escapement to the mainspring are removed from the movement and replaced with corresponding components from IWC’s own manufacture.” In 2003, the GST Aquatimer’s movement was redesignated as IWC calibre 30110, due to significant changes in finishing, including changing from gold plating to nickel plating as traditionally used in many of IWC’s classic movements. 37524 30110 About the white dial: They were only available in 1999, the first year the Aquatimer came out, and only in stainless steel. While commonly referred to as "white," the dial is really a very light silver color. I would guess that less than 1000 were made, but that is only a wild guess. and here's how the crown works

your right about the black s/s and the ti, but the white only came in s/s with the mixed dial. it had a very short production due to extremely poor sales.
-
Having had 3 gens, 2 s/s and one ti, i can tell you they have a screw down crown. they are also much larger than the gst chrono. they come in at 42mm. the gen white dial was a shop hog, no one wanted them. The second hand on the gen white dial is blue. the bracelet system is very comfortable as stated previously. another problem with the white dial, when they were produced, iwc for some reason used tritium on the 12 indices and hands and SL on the rest of the indices, hence, it should say T swiss made T on the dial. I had one of these mixed dial versions and sold it because the 12 marker yellowed in relation to the other markers. It reminded me of 2 big yellow teeth. heres a pic i took of mine.
