  1. I bought from Josh a PAM187 47mm which was my favorite watch. (the tuna watch is ugly in front of the 187). Too unfortunate that my cleaning maid stole it from me last year and now it is out of production. :(

Someone said here that a newer version is coming out?

    R.I.P. PAM187

Rumor mill has it that an updated 187 is in the works with the A7753 movement, which would solve the sunken date wheel issue. I'm curious how much the case will have to be reworked to get the date pusher functional.

Check Angus's site... he has the 187 listed under Auto Chronos. Don't know if he has stock though... it is the old (i.e. current) version.

  2. At the risk of NecroPosting:

Proraso cream or Tabac soap are my preference.

H.L. Thater badger brush (Yes, Badger is worth it. Check Amazon for the Tweezerman brush... a steal at under 13$... Not silvertip, but still nice)

Strop: Straight Razor Designs Premium IV English Bridle Strop (Long).

Razors: Straights. Haven't touched a disposable in years. Don't plan on it again anytime soon.

    Current rotation:

Wade and Butcher 8/8 "For Barbers Use" Wedge

Wade and Butcher 8/8 "For Barbers Use" Near-wedge

Wade and Butcher 7/8 "for Barbers use" Half-hollow/barbers notch

J.R. Torrey... multiple from 5/8 to 6/8... half too full hollow, mostly Square points, some barber notches (Seriously under-rated American steel)

Gold Dollar 6/8 full-hollow round nose as reground by RupRazor (Turned a hunk of crap blade into a wonderful shaver...)

Which blade I choose depends on how much growth I have on the face to remove and how I feel. My favorite blade is the 8/8 Wade and Butcher Near-Wedge... baby butt smooth in one pass with minor touch ups.

Check out the "straight razor place" and "badger and blade" websites for more info shaving like you mean it.

  3. As scary as this may sound... the best PAM GMT movement I've ever owned in the rep world is a high-beat A7750, unserviced, in an older 186.

It's been within +/- 3 seconds of dead on for several years now.

My other "most reliable" GMT reps have also been A7750 based. My 2836 w/GMT mod movements always seem to need work... the GMT hand starts slipping usually as the addition to the movement to get the GMT effect isn't quite up to snuff.

  4. Don't know of any rep dealers who use the term "synthetic sapphire" to mean synthetic sapphire. Among rep dealers, any mention of the work "synthetic" indicates a mineral glass crystal.

Perhaps that is an older use I'm still familiar with... TTK and some other dealers now long gone used to refer to Sappire as "synthetic sapphire" and mineral glass/crystal was "mineral crystal"

I could very well be behind the times.

  5. OP, when did you place your order (date)? If you don't mind that is...

Mine is showing as: "Processing order Payment Confirmed" currently on Angus's site... I had interaction with Nikki a few nights ago and no mention of stock issues were raised.

  6. synthetic = mineral glass

Not always the case... as all watch crystals are "synthetic" to some extent... our Sapphire crystals are all lab created, not natural crystals polished down. Some dealers use "Synthetic Sapphire" when they mean (and what we accept to be) "Sapphire", others use it to denote "Mineral Crystal".

Seeing as Josh uses "Genuine Sapphire" as a description on other reps, I'd guess when he uses "Synthetic" he does, in fact, mean Mineral Crystal... an email dropped his way asking specifically if it is "Sapphire" or "Mineral Crystal/Glass" would be my move.

  7. Puretime said they are waiting for the release of the watch to have a better idea of the coating color. It sure won't be ceramic, but brown DLC...

There is a thread on RG about it...

Brown DLC could be interesting... obviously not true to Gen, but it would probably approach that 99% threshold of "close enough"

And I'm still under a lifetime ban at RG for unknown reasons... I hear the ownership has changed and the gentleman who decided to ban me is gone, but my interest in returning there remains 0.

  8. 193 should have titanium case, this rep must weight a lot...

For some reason, I thought the bezel was Ti and the case was brushed steel on the gen. Could be wrong though.

Looks like a decent rep, but far to inaccurate with today's fairly high Pam standards... I'm still waiting patiently for a A7753 based 187.

  9. Hi O.

Its good to see some other old timers as well...I know I either sold you something or bought something from you...Your avatar is too recognizable...

What? Heresy sticks out in your mind? Unpossible.

It certainly is nice to see some old hands about... I've been out for a few years myself, just wandered back in a few weeks back... I find it still is a comfortable place to be.

My Slytech is the /218A I believe... PVD Slytech from DSN, gotta dig a photo of that old warhorse up, it's showing many battle scars these days... Truly a vintage piece now..

  10. Even with the flaws on the dial... This one appears to be a better replication than the 359 already... I'll hold final judgement until the CG photos are released. But at this time, my wallet is pulling me toward a 329 out of the options.

And yes, as far as I am aware.. The difference between a 320 and 329 is leather vs. bracelet.

  11. Yup, that's Eddie for you. People seem to forget his less honest aspects now he's gone.

I don't think that Eddie was/is alone in being less than honest as a seller.... I seem to recall *someone* starting a thread about Little White Lies that is now (properly) near legend/required reading on the forums. B)

Since my second rep, I've been in the habit of cracking casebacks and checking the innards... been disappointed more than once. Most dealers have made right, those that didn't are no longer ones that I deal with.

  12. I opened up a separate account at my bank for Paypal only use and typically only keep $100-200 in there. If I make a larger purchase, I transfer funds from my main checking account.

+1 to that idea... I've had a 2nd checking account at my bank that has had a 1$ direct deposit from my paychecks going for several years now... I fund it when I need to make a purchase.

I've never had paypal tell me that I need to use that account over a credit-card... but then again, I don't use it that frequently.

And like Krusty suggested... Verification is pretty quick and painless.... open a separate account and have that one verified.

  13. EMS locally usually is hand-delivered by the branch manager of the local post office.... driving his own car.

I think I've had one EMS package actually delivered by my regular postman... the rest have been delivered by the person I know to be the branch manager... he drives it in his own personal vehicle, wearing suit/tie with a USPS ID tag on his pocket and has stated that EMS packages are treated as being the "highest priority" packages they get....

Perhaps my local branch is wierd... but I can't complain. If I track my packages via the USPS site, I can see them leave customs, fly to the local airstrip and be delivered to my door roughly 40 minutes after landing at the small local airstrip.

  14. Yep... I know where your coming from Ubi.

The Hunt/Chase is so much more rewarding to me than the actual possession... I've had this issue in more than one hobby/pursuit.

I don't think that we're crazy at all... we just need to learn/use/exercise self control... I noticed a reference above to another member requiring seperate bank accounts... that to me would be a signal of a problem. I keep my spending in check... I never drop any more on my hobbies than I can easily afford... if the budget gets tight, I buckle down.

And Yes, I'm honestly afraid to even begin thinking about how much I've spent over the past several years... if you were to combine that with my other hobbies and passions, I'm pretty certain I could be parking my Ferrari in the 9 car-port of my 19000s.f. mansion and take a flight on my private jet with my supermodel wife.

Eeek... I became Jetmid for a second there. Scary. :p

  15. Hrmm... hard question... I'd kill for a UN Freak. (seriously... if you need someone wacked and have a UN Freak to offer... PM me. :bleh::p;) )

But... I'd be giving up a pretty good selection of watches from the grungiest everyday beaters to nice dressy watches that look great when I get all dressed up....

I suppose I'd trade all my reps for my "grail"... but I'd be in the market for a new rep collection pretty quickly to replace a few of my lost gems... IWC GST TI, Pam 187, Pam 127, Pam 186, Omega 45mmPO, IWC 3717.... the rest of my reps I could do without.

On second thought, I'll keep my current collection of watches... I'd need a new wardrobe, car, house, wife and such to pull off the UN Freak.

  16. I've had mine for about a year and half now... received it 2nd, 3rd or 4th hand... I have no idea how many prior owners it had... one had the crystal single AR'd... one had the movement serviced. Mine might be a Franken... it has the "live" serial number caseback and the screwed down bezel markers, also the best rep lume I've ever seen.

I wear the watch at least 1 day a week, it is one of the last reps I'd ever consider parting ways with.... I'm truly in love with my 187, it is a spectacular watch.

  17. I have no idea why... because every ounce of sense I have says I should hate this design... but I like it. I'm looking forward to seeing more photos of it... and reading reviews of it instead of just promo-copy.

I was at an AD not long ago prepared to plop down on a GMTc when I was flipping through a WatchTime issue... I found the deepsea in there and had to hold off on my order... I can't decide which I want now... going to have to wait till I can get a deepsea on the wrist and see how it feels.
