  1. I wouldn't mind one too. Any chance of a couple more

I'm sure many people agree, what we have seen in this thread seems insignificant when all the posts of botched orders damaged parts shipped and the rest of the history behind it

http://myworld.ebay.com/dyrcsszw216/ I think he is already back into selling parts.
  4. ingod44 had a fairly nice white pn dial. Freddy333 has a build based around one with a gen dial crown which I think looks like the best from what I have seen.
  5. Inspiring project Freddy I have found myself looking through Stefano Mazzariol blog looking at the pics of the white dial and the story behind it. I started looking for a dial and an insert to build a project around. Then you go and build one, I find the white dial you have looks incredible. This is what the hobby is all about building what cannot be bought. I just noticed this thread started two years ago. Freddy is there any chance you can put a link in your signature to all your threads ala LHOOQ's thread repository. You have an amazing ability to take photos and your projects are fantastic.
  6. is this what you mean?
  7. I'm thinking I might be too heavy handed to work on watches. I tapped the thread for this to m3 x0.35 I countersunk and counter bored the hole. I searched for pics of builds to get an idea on how far from the case this should sit. I read somewhere that the wrong thing to do is get it flush and have the crown sit too close to the case. I have been through all of freddy333 content looking for good pics of builds he has completed. As I think he gets this area right. I got to the point where I was happy with how deep the tube sat in the case. I removed it fitted the seal between tube and case wound it in. I was using a tapered spline from an alternate tool that fit the tube. I thought i would give it another quarter turn and turned the head off the tube. It unwound fine without damage to the case with just another tapered spline. But I though I would ask if this has ever happened to anyone before. I was using a clarks 703 tube and gen crown. I was happy with the quality of the tube. I think it is just me using the wrong tool for the job.
  8. I'm really struggling to find a hand set that I like for a v72 daytona and missed out on some used gen items that sold too cheap. I am still kicking myself. I want to buy from him. But members I hold in high regard have suffered losses on his behalf. Out of interest how are you communicating with him?
  9. Are you still sending monies via western union to buy from DW
  10. Love it, I want to know what the mods to the 16000 case are. It looks the rehaut is machined down but what else I don't know. Day date is a must
  11. http://www.watchwallpapers.com/hte.htm I saw this come up on rolexforums and thought it was cool but i expected their to be shock and horror. But it was all backslapping and congrats. All 8 pages of it. I guess they miss out on seeing cool builds over there. Here's the thread if you're interested https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=236497
  12. so do you think he ended the auction early or accepted a private offer?
  13. What's it going to be worth, It's not like the money you raise will pay off your mortgage. Keep it the fact you posted this means you are not ready to let it go. I had a mate with a gen planet ocean that did not last 10 years has had a mechanical failure after 5
  14. Mate, I just thought the title to your post sounded funny. Hence why I tried to crack a funny. There have been some helpful posts in here.
  15. Iceberg that is a great piece. I find value in the Rolex brand. As I said earlier in the thread the cost of a whole watch. In some cases the whole watches are cheaper than their sum of parts. Whereas with other brands the cost of the parts is massively cheaper than the cost of the entire watch. I have heard of people that have bought genuine Breitling parts and put together a watch at a fraction of the cost of the entire watch. My fascination with watches started around the 80's I always hassle my mates that carry on like [censored] with eta based high end watches telling them they have nice swatches and the like. Nobody can ever tell you your $1000+ watch is powered by a $50 movement with Rolex
  16. Why would this be urgent are you in a rush to scam someone
  17. Hey I was really interested by this tudor 7031 how are the hands on it. I think it looks quite cool. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ROLEX-TUDOR-HOMEPLACE-MONTE-CARLO-WATCH-RF-7031-/350569201261?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item519f8d7e6d The reason why i posted was because I find the shape of the lugs to be strange it seems awkward how close the lugholes are to the edges. So what are the expert opinions
  18. I only see a few for sale this year on the 18039, which makes me lean towards that for the reason that they would be less accessible in the future. There are heaps of 5513 and a few out there that tick the boxes.
  19. I'm thinking about another gen and just can't shake it. When I bought the Sub LV I deliberated between buying a 14060 or the anniversary sub. These days the modern 14060 does nothing for me. I like the older two line version. Which luckily these days I think is a pale comparison to a 5513. The modern watches from Rolex don't have the appeal of the older watches to me. I keep feeling drawn to purchasing a full set 5513 with a maxi dial from the late 70's. Having always been drawn to the presidents I have always wanted a white gold day date from the same era. With the day dates I find that their is no good rep available. Nothing glitters like gold so they say. But the white gold variants are uncommon and I have never seen any day dates with boxes or history. On the other side a 5513 has been well repped. I know this is a rep forum. But the prices of these two watches are not outside the realm people have spent on 1680 frankens or DW 6263's and within a justifiable range as far as i'm concerned. I'm not the wealthiest of people and it is something I will save towards and wait until the right one comes along. I see these both as iconic watches, with a chance of increasing in value and at the moment they are almost the same cost for a complete watch as their value in parts In some ways I see a complete 5513 as a bargain considering the cost of parts, I think it would be more to put one together than to buy a complete watch I don't plan on selling anything I currently own and would plan on keeping either option forever. I wanted to see what option you would take, what gens you guys own and why you bought them
  20. I've been called out more times with gen's than with rep's. The 16610 LV has been accused of being fake about 6 or 7 times I've even let people handle it for them to confirm it as fake. These days if anybody asks me about a watch i tell them its fake straight away regardless. I've called out people all the time. I had a guy that does casual work for my boss wearing a two tone daytona that showed the same time for 6 weeks before i asked him if his watch was working. He wore the watch not functioning for years. I was at a bbq and this guy is talking himself up. You know the sort- I make this much money and blow it on coke and hookers blah blah. Just bought a two tone rolex daytona but it needed a new link and they only had stainless. I looked from a distance and told him he might as well walk round with his fly down. I hate chrono reps when the subdials show days of the week or the date.
  21. It is a very depressing song but so haunting with its ability to endear itself to everyone and their experience growing up. I think it is the ultimate gift and i don't care that a 16610 is common. Who could ever have predicted the watches that are valuable now. Maybe the last lug holed 16610 will be sought after in the future. But the value will come from the giving of the watch not its potential sale price.
  22. must have taken ages to take those pics. slow set date
  23. I thought Rolex was doing everything in house these days, quite incredible the way the company has grown. There was a video released of the deep sea challenge that showed the manufacture of the watch at many stages. On the font variations most of the new models seem to have interesting nuances. Maybe it will be that in years to come the116619 above or even the early 16610LV with alternate dial fonts will become revered. Here's that vid
  24. That's what I was thinking maybe threads stripped in crown. But... No the loupe confirmed something even simpler. There was an o-ring at the base of the crown that was preventing the tube getting to the threads. Its o.k everybody stop panicking. I did order the right tube. Turn the bus around.
