  1. I'm with Tribal plus this one achieves the deeper set dial by locating the crown (and movement) very low on the case. Judging from the photos, the crown is almost off the case. :( It would be hard as hell to get an OEM tube into this case.

With the gen, the bottom of the crown is flush with the case. Really, these guys need to start with a clean slate and finally get this watch accurate, specially at this price point. They did it with the PO and others so why not the Sub & SD? :whistling:

Sub's crown is centered on the case. Seadweller's crown is flushed with the bottom of the case.

  2. runninhorn is a classic. below are quotes of his infamous "taking his tt sub to an AD for mods".

runninhorn, since september, have you learned anything about reps? Do you know what a mechanical watch is? Automatic doesn't mean battery-powered nor chipmunk powered. Read more. Else you're providing comic relief and don't know the joke is on you.

Just bought a tt rep rolex sub from Eddie Lee. Love the watch, looks great, but would like a few small mods done to the watch. Does anyone here recommend anyone to do the mods? Just wondering, thanks. Took it to my local rolex dealer but he wanted an arm and a leg.

Yes, my local dealer I took it to, he was adjusting the band for me and said to bring it back anytime to get the band changed out and if i wanted any mods done to it, it would void the warranty but he would still do it if I wanted it done.

You smell something fishy here? What the heck kind of reply is that? I posted a question with the facts, and you draw that kind of conclusion? That comment by you was just plain stupid.

dude your such an idiot. STFU. I took it to a dealer and know what he said. Quit spouting BS.
  3. You are indeed a lucky man. This looks like an excellent foundation for modding. Here's my rating:

No.1 the thick crystal is perfect. Look how high it sits above the bezel. That's good and rare. I doubt if TW Best of MBW is even this good looking. Look at the gen's crystal. Yours just as good. That's rare.

No.2 the date mag is OK. It could be a little large because of the photography. But look at this gen. Doesn't it look about the same mag as yours? If your's off, it's only very slightly. I won't do a thing about the date mag. The date font might be a little too bold. If it bothers you, put a noobmariner datewheel overlay on it. $10.

No.3 the CGs are fat but it means there's a lot of metal to work with to get it down to the right shape. One modern sub rep has certain parts of the CGS too thin and there's no way to get them right whatsover.

No.4 the rehaut is not deep enough but decent and not too conical. Nothing you can do, nothing to worry either.

No.5 the bezel teeth too angled down, get a better one when you have a chance. Not very noticeable. A better one will make it look more handsome. That's all.

No.6 bezel insert is not good enough on any sub rep. So get a better one from Palp or Joe or the cheap Jewelery Tools insert ($15 shipped)

No.7 dial is ok but can use a noobmariner dial. $8 only.

No.8 SELs of the bracelet are too long. They should be shorter than the lugs, totally inside the lugs.

No.9 crown is low on the case when viewed from the side. It should be higher. Look at the gen's crown in relation to the bezel. Nothing you can do about that. It's a common problem with all sub reps. The best in this department is the noobmariner, followed by TW Best and MBW.

Don't give it up because it's $36. It's an excellent foundation next to the TW Best or MBW which are what 10 times more?

  4. 2824 is 4.8mm vs 5.05mm for the 2836 AFAIK. I'm not 100% sure but I think the difference is solely down to the addition of the day wheel feature to the '36. It sits inside the '36 date wheel which is offset slightly compared to the 2824 date wheel. So if my presumption is correct the 2824 would need to be lowered WRT the crown tube by .25mm

Hope that is of some help.

lowered instead of raised? btw, maria is such a babe.

  5. Yep you are right on. I did pop the bezel on mine - it took approx 10 miutes to get it off. I had a big surprise when I got it off. The setup is completely different than the traditional bezel set up. After putting it back on with a new and better bezel insert, the bezel would not turn. When I finally got it off again thinking I would re-install it it would not set in place. It would make a half turn and pop off again. What a mess. So beware the noob bezel. I will post photos so members can see what they have to work with if considering a bezel mod.

So you managed to get the bezel off? How did you do that? I'm scared to death to do it again. And then what good is it if the bezel doesn't turn anymore? Have you figured how to fix it? Thanks.

  6. tried that and needed 5 stitches

the noobmariner's bezel construction is different from traditional sub bezel which is narrower and held by a angled wire and can be popped out easily by prying a razor blade between it and the case. I still don't know how noob's bezel is attached to the case 'cause I still couldn't frigging get it off yet and I'm not trying anymore.

And then the bezel insert is also different from others. Its bottom is shaped different and it's thicker.

I inadvertently popped the crystal. I realize why the rehaut looks so shallow now. It's because the rubber seal for the crystal is much thicker taking up part of the rehaut and it's not flush with the rehaut. The crystal's edge has a cut-out to fit to the thicker seal. That's why when you look at the noob's rehaut, it looks like it's cut in half, being made of 2 different parts (borrowing by-tor's words), instead of the crystal smoothly merging with the case. I bet if the factory uses the traditional rehaut/crystal/crystal seal construction, the noobmariner will have a deep rehaut like the gen. That'll be pretty scary. But then you still can't mod the CGs unless you can pop the bezel.

  7. Just so happens that I have both of those watches. The Daytona from Josh, serviced by The Zigmeister. Keeps near perfect time, runs and functions perfectly. I have had it for about 10 months now. The case is only 1.5mm thicker then gen if memory serves. The Bentley I bought used so I don't know who it came from. Aside from the AR and slightly smaller dial then gen it also is a very nice piece. Both with the new asian 7750. The Bentley has not been served and isn't as accurate from a time keeping standpoint but still a very nice watch. I don't know if Josh offers the pre-service on the 7750 but if he does it is a cheaper alternative. Or you can just wear it and when it dies, service/replace the movement. A swiss 7753 movement will run you $500 for the movement alone though... and then it will still need to be serviced!

Great. It's good to know. I always thought the daytona is way too thick. I can handle the movement not too reliable. I guess I'm picking one up soon.

  8. This is an over-achiever too. Besides telling time, it's a diet machine. You take a look at it and you puke out what you ate.

Okay. Just one more. We all know the quality of gold/TT reps is often questionable, but I got lucky with this one. The subdial spacing is a little off, but it's difficult to notice with a plastic bag over your head.
