  1. Never! Speedmasters are what got me into reps initially, and I've owned every rep version (including a modded example). None were very accurate, so I finally saved up and bought a gen. As mentioned above, if I could only have one gen it would be a Speedmaster Professional. They are just perfect on the wrist and they have such a nice history as well. In fact, it's hard to stop at just one.
  2. There are at least two bracelets that SMP reps come on. Is it the Bond type (1503) or Speedy type (1610)? I put a link from a rep Bond bracelet on my gen SMP, but it required filing. Lug size is 20mm. Gen half links are around $35 from Ofrei.
  3. Didn't you have an excellent 2234.50 / 2534.50 franken? The great thing about that case is that you don't have an incorrect HEV to give the whole thing away. I wonder if that rep is still available? Hmmmm...
  4. Excellent writeup as usual! Thanks for letting me be part of the process. You really ended up with a special piece.
  5. Sorry for the slow response! The plexi is indeed a 34.0mm, and the watch originally came from MR (but I don't think they are a trusted dealer on the forums any longer). A friend of mine recently had a difficult time finding this version of the Speedy, and in fact never did. I doubt that helps, but good luck.
  6. I swapped the crystal for a plexi on my ST19 manual wind Speedy rep after reading about FXRandy doing the same thing. As mentioned above, tthe plexi came from Cousins UK. Be careful which Speedy rep you order since there appears to be more than one version now. You will need to glue in a slightly undersized plexi because the bezel insert has a smaller diameter than the bezel itself. It looks pretty good though. Here are some pictures:
  7. Omega will charge $485 for a movement service and to refinish the case and bracelet. Check out the Omega website for specifics on what will be done. I think the only parts included for the price are new hands. I think it takes them forever, but from what I've seen on WUS they usually come back looking great. A local watchmaker should be able to service the movement without any problems. Be careful when asking about the refinishing part, as my local guy would just polish the crap out of it with a Cape Cod cloth and call it good! EDIT: Daltore beat me to it.
  8. I would bet that the top one will eventually be repped because it is the new/current version. (By the way, I like that PO looking bezel insert). The second wave dial model has been discontinued, so if they don't have a rep already they might not bother. Both of them are nice looking watches!
  9. Thanks! I spent most of last year selling stuff, saving, and searching for a decent deal. I've loved it so far, but that might fade when I have to send it for an expensive service.
  10. Heresy! Actually, that is probably why I like it. Me too. I tried to live with a Speedy rep for two years, but I just couldn't. I finally gave up and saved for the gen (my first, pictured below). I would love to get a rep that accepts gen dials because there are a couple special editions that I would like but don't want to pay the premium.
  11. I'm on the fence about that one, but I might come around. I do think they could easily rep the 44mm Co-ax Speedy using the PO movement. That big boy looks pretty good.
  12. They only need to get the rep correct once because the basic Speedmaster Professional will never change!
  13. To be fair, the dial he used is from a 2230 and not a 2254. It is a common mod that the gen guys do to get applied markers on a 2254 watch. Many of them also use a PO seconds hand which some think compliments the other hands. Either way, that watch looks pretty friggin good. TripleHD - Are the gen dial and hands a direct swap on to the 50th anniversary Omega GMT (2234.50)? I've never seen anyone else franken that rep and I absolutely love the one you built! Specifically, do the hands fit without adjustment? Thanks.
