  1. I agree about that...there are 3 dial versions...blue, orange and red...blue is my fav...

when I spoke to Angus a couple of months ago he said he would ask the factories to do it but apparently they decided not to go for it since the gen was high priced...but now, If they bought gen AP ROO's for replicating...then they could invest as well in the Scuba LE...

Gents...I looked at getting a Scuba months ago and they've been out for awhile. They may not be on the same level as some of the more recent super-reps but they do exist

  2. as stated there are many differences between the two...but there's not a "super" 005 on the market...nor is there a basis to create one either. The DSN one is probably the "best" out of the box though as his logo is "better" despite being too close to the Panerai wording

Here's another perspective...since it's a closed back model you could do what I did with mine.

    Spent $100 on a 21J movement 005 from Joshua

Had The Zigmeister lume it and install a Palp crown on it

Did a couple little mods to the CG myself

**note...the 21J movement doesn't have the recessed pin issue that needs fixed on the others...however the pin has a slightly rounded top not a flat top.

and for $300ish I've got a very nice 005 rep that actually gets the most wrist time of any of my reps. Still got as many flaws as any other but has great lume and great crown which for me were the most important issues. I could still nitpick my own watch some and make improvements but I'm too busy wearing the darn thing.

  3. Havn't worn te 212 in several months...still not sure I've ever found a strap that I like really really well on this puppy. Had a Don carbon on it for a couple of months after christmas and then it just went away in the watch box.

Got up this morning and put this strap back on it which I think is still my favorite for this watch.

  4. Could you Rolex experts pick these two rep apart a bit to tell me if if either one is good or not. From the limited info out there it appears as though there really aren't any outstanding DateJust reps for the ladies but I'd like to find the nicest one possible for my wife.

This are the ones that I've been looking at from Joshua:

  5. Hi,

I have reviewed my lite version : maybe you would like to compare my pictures with the ceramic pictures.

It looks definitely like ceramic, but has smooth edges.

As I'm also looking t make a HBB purchase and can't decide between PVD and Ceramic I've been looking for good comparisons as well, however what I found interesting is that UB7's PVD bezel came with the knurled sides like the ceramic has. Not sure if this is a later update making the newer PVD versions look even closer to ceramic or if different suppliers are providing different bezels?

Also in looking through posts on timezone many of the factory ceramic bezels look brushed at certain angles and clearly polished in other pictures further adding to the confusion.

  6. Since you're a Hammy fan, why don't you check out the Khaki Navy GMT, or Air Race GMT. I picked one up for less than $300 on eBay, and it represent the best value available with an ETA 2893.

Check out the custom job I'm doing on it here:

Hummm...Hamilton wasn't even on my Radar...those are a couple of good suggestions. Before I got into this hobby my Hamilton was the first watch I'd grab for every morning. I always felt it was the best watch I could get on my budget back then and still think they're the best buy for the money in the gen realm.

Still looking for other suggestions....the Chopard was a great selection to get me into another brand of watch.

  7. All,

In looking at my small, but growing collection I'm trying to put together a list of watches that i want to diversify my collection some in '08. I don't currently have a GMT watch and I"m open to suggestions on good GMT watches in the market.

Also keep in mind that I'm trying to diversity brands somewhat...and I realize that Rolex should probably be a candidate becuase I don't currently own any Rolex's but I'm just not too hot on them either.

    Current watches:

    Pam 005

    Pam 212

    Breitling Navitimer

    Omega speedmaster (gen)

    Hamilton white face chrono. (gen...obviously)

    Tag Heuer 3000 professional (gen)

    Current Wish List:

    HBB Ceramic Bezel

    Porsche Flat-6 Chrono (Red)

??? - GMT of some sort

??? - Dress watch of some sort...thinking IWC FA Jones

  8. All of this AR interest lately...and it's never even been something that was on my Radar until I started to read all of these threads. However now that I've been to an AD and seen some in person I can clearly see how it adds benefit to the watch to where you can really see details as opposed to reflections.

However if I'm correct most of the Panerai models have single AR only...so is it more of a tell to have Double AR or no AR at all?

The "synthetic" saphire that came on my 005 has a light coating of something that resembles AR...but sure doesn't do it's job and my 212 has none. I'm thinking of having both watches done but I"m wondering if it'll make them stand out in a bad way from having too good of an AR coating.

  9. UB7: Obviously the ceramic vs. PVD bezel is a dead give away on some of these watches.

However, how do the cases compare. The reps have PVD cases which are also ceramic on the gen correct? But the cases don't look to be nearly as obvious of a "tell" to me as the bezel would be....I'm really liking the ice version with it's stainless bezel.

  10. Yes the black magic and ice bang are available a couple of dealers have them..Angus, josh, andrew..I ordered the ice bang light last week (from andrew) it should be here any day i'll post pics as soon as it arrives...heres a link to andrew's hublot section (it's not on his site)

    pw:comein

The ice lite model is very tempting. Do you know if he's using the newer movements in his lite models or still the old low beat 7750 in the Lites.

  11. First there was a post about owning a Porsche watch without the Porsche.. well, as a former Porsche owner and enthusiast .. i think I still qualify.. and Pops had Porsches for most of his life...

Ha...I think you qualify. As a matter of fact...I often wonder if it's more tacky to wear branded gear just to represent something else you also own?...we've all seen that guy that owns the Ferrari jump out wearing all of the bright red gear including his red puma Ferrari driving shoes...and the manditory leather corvette jacket that I think all Corvette owners have.

That said I wear porsche design titanium sun glasses...and will own this watch in red...to match a certain something in the garage.
