  1. God I cannot believe I'm posting this but here's a noob question. I have just received via eBay a sticky ball case opener. How does it work. I had assumed that you squeezed it and slapped it on the caseback where vacumn pressure gripped it but this isn't happening. It fact I cannot squeeze the ball at all no matter how much pressure i apply so do I have a duff valve on mine? Cannot believe I can't work a sticky ball. The shame.
  2. Panerai. Stupid watch. Too big and silly crown guard. Now I cannot prize my 048 from Narikaa off my wrist. I hate crown guards but this is awesome and I am in love with the cg on this watch now.
  3. 40mm Panerai 048.
  4. Thanks everyone for your answers. I reckon for once I'll learn from other people's experiences and not bother with the eta route. I don't have the skills or the time for that amount of work - maybe in 20 years when the kids have moved out ...
  5. I was assuming that I'd have to get new hands anyway. Are a7750's hands interchangable with swiss movements. I presumed not. I'm not sure I fully understand you ('cos I'm a total noob here) but the 048 has seconds at 9 o'clock on a subdial. Is that the sundial you refer to?
  6. How easy is it to transplant a swiss eta into a Pam 048. It's a high beat MBK but I think I'm about to head down a franken route ... I've used the search function but had no luck with 40mm pams.
  7. That's what the dishwasher is for lol. Now I can dunk it in the bath like my gens. Kids are fascinated by the fact watches can go u/w. Display backs lead to mouthed amazement.
  8. Was walking through a shopping centre last Wednesday and remembered there was a Timpson's there so I stopped by and the manager tested my 5513 from trusty. Past 50m with flying colours and no charge. What is funny is I'd phoned up another branch and the moment the lady on the phone was told it was a mechanical it would have to be sent off for "specialists" to test it at a cost of £165. I didn't bother arguing the differences in quartz v mech seals but thanked her and laughed once I'd hung up. Best of all - manager thought it was a gen.
  9. Got a link? Thanks
  10. Lovely. Did you happen to measure the diameter of the dial of the cartel watch when you had it apart?
  11. Wow Sly, that's exactly what I'm after. Are Mbk cases still available?
  12. Thanks everyone, I'm off to order a watch now - look out for pics eventually.
  13. Seriously? That simple? I'm speechless. Then you pop in the dial and put the hands on. What holds the dial in place if there's no feet?
  14. There's a couple on ebay at the moment, but I was hoping to stick with eta. Is adaption easy or even possible with a gen dial?
  15. Later model, without a doubt. Thanks for the quick replies btw.
  16. Something like this. http://robertmaron.com/product.php?productid=17598&cat=265&page=8&sold
  17. Thanks for the quick reply. I'd post a link but not enough posts.....
  18. Hi all, I'm thinking of attempting my first custom job and I'd like to try for a late model 5513 circa 1989 towards the end of the production run. I was planning to use one of Trustywatchguys 5513's as a base. However, as is normal for the rep world the path is not smooth. The later 5513's seem to have a dial makeup similar to 16610's. They have white gold indices and what looks like a white button, triangle or rectangle attached for the hour markers. Can anyone confirm that the buttons are an attachment or are painted on? Also, where to get the approprite (steel - it's a rep after all ) indices? Would I be best buying a pair of $48 specials from Timeshop to get the indices which strikes me as expensive for that extra indice at 3 o'clock. Any suggestions gratefully received from a total noob.
  19. I used to be an audiophile but now I've got three children so peace and quiet is much appreciated these days. I sold the kit when I found my eldest had managed to gain access to it..... Now I only get to listen to music on my iphone when I'm running.
  20. Thanks, I'm waiting on a Pam from Narikaa and I can't wait to start accessorising ... I thought reps were going to be a cheaper way to love watches, more fool me. The £38 rolex on my wrist which I got yesterday now makes me want a BK special. Ye gods!
  21. Hi, can anyone guide me to a site that sells reproduction deployments and/or buckles for a 40mm Pam? I've had no luck using the search function and google comes up with complete watches.
