  1. LED technology will surpass that of plasma and this is evident of manufactures' websites. More LCD available than plasma.

    :wallbash:

ITS BECAUSE THEY ARE CHEAPER TO MAKE, ship and store.

    25-04-2008:

"Pioneer Corporation and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., best known for its Panasonic products, today reached a basic agreement on a comprehensive PDP business alliance to further progress and reinforce the PDP businesses".

  2. Only at first. Once we get used to stupidly high-resolution images at high frame rates, our brains will adjust. :)

The battle scenes in Gladiator, for instance, were filmed with a video camera, the immediacy it brought changed the ways our brains worked.

This 'immediacy effect' was achieved by the higher 'shutter speed'. Not because of the camera.

(This effect is "fun" for action scenes.. but imagine watching the whole movie like that).

50fps will never work for cinema. (its been debated for decades the conclusion is always the same).

  3. What would be ideal would be for film to adapt to 50+fps, but that's not going to happen. :)

    It wont happen...

The problem with that is movies would loose there "effect".

24fps make movies look "magical" vs. real...

it allows the brain to detach from reality... sorry could go on for hours about this :)

50fps would look more like Camcorder footage/ TV show.

  4. ... which is silly. There is simply no good reason to do this, apart from to reduce flicker in ambient electrical light. 48Hz projection can cause motion perception issues, for instance, so you're better off with pure 24Hz and no lights.

Then again, people put up with 2:3 Pulldown. ;)

    Pug...

24fps would look like a flick-book... our eyes need to seen min. 48fps for them to be tricked into seeing fluid motion.

  5. Ok.... I lied.

    Please read.....

    You didn't lie

Just mislead by a gimmick and hype.

The holy grail of a home cinema setup is to achieve a picture and sound as the DIRECTOR INTENDED.

I now know what you mean by 120hz LCD.

    i.e Post-processing to "make-up" frames.

Made-up frames cause artefacts and remove the "movie effect".

(Ive got something similar on my bedroom Philips LCD). fun for the 1st 5mins... then never used it again.

If you like this sort of picture go for it...

LCD can never produce (or even come close to) near REFERENCE level (once calibrated) blacks, gamma curve and colour temperature of the Kuro, THIS IS WHAT REALLY MATTERS.

  6. Naw....honestly, not gonna budge on this one. Plasma is no longer king. The new 120hz LCDs are IT right now. Blows plasma away. Brighter, sharper, smoother. The pic just looks like life itself. Honestly, have you gone and looked at one? Sorry but the Pioneer Kuro is only 60hz refresh rate. Slow as a donkey. Hence the choppy picture. Trust me......I know you like your plasmas guys, but if you are lookin for a nice TV right now, 120hz LCD is THE way to go. Just go take a look at one if you don't believe me. 25k:1 contrast ratio, and 120hz....nuff said. One thing though....garbage in = garbage out. If you go to check one out, make sure it's at a good store. One where they have proper signal on ALL their display models. Compare pictures with equal source material.

Sorry, I turned this thread into a consumer electronics theme. Just kind of another hobby of mine. CE that is.

this will be my last post regarding it. But maybe we can continue this topic on OT?

    sorry, dont mean to offend

but please dont post nonsense about refresh rates. nothing you said makes any sense.

    cinema refresh rate is 48hz.

why on earth do you need 120hz??????!

Kuro refresh rate is 72hz anyway.

Kuro plasma. best flat screen on market... look on any forum/magazine.
